Before and after photos of our dog getting "groomed". When we arrived to drop him off they asked what we were wanting. Indicating that they did not check the online booking portion that I filled out. We asked for Half an inch off the legs, tails etc. We did ask for his booty area to be trimmed up a bit more for sanitary reasons. He had absolutely no matting. He had a bath a week prior. He gets brushed weekly! THEY SHAVED MY DOUBLE COATED DOG. The Excuse used was "well some don't understand what half an inch is". I asked for a trim. Never once would I ask for this Sheppard to be shaved. I just hope it grows back successfully with no complications. They did not make me pay for the service. However this is not okay. read more

I received an email from Petco with an offering of 20% off everything, online and in store. I was purchasing a bag of dog food and a collar. I ask the cashier to apply the save20 coupon. She tells it's for online only. So I decided to just purchase the collar which was on clearance. She then scans the collar and says it's not on clearance but regular price. I go ahead and complete the purchase. Unfortunately I had left my phone at home, so couldn't verify anything. I get home and check the website, coupon state's 20% off everything, online and in store! Also shows collar as being on clearance. Needless to say this was my last purchase at Petco. read more

an hour before close and theres no employees to be seen. I grab my dog food and wait upfront for 5/10mins, when finally an employee walks up front with a mop bucket, and checks me out. I could have easily walked out with whatever I wanted, gotta at least have one person upfront at all times, come on guys. read more

Well, what can I say, I had horrible experience, so if you are thinking about getting your dog groomed, Petco not the best place for this, terrible service and work, even if you pay extra, for extra shedding ( extra 15 minutes for brush out) they will return your dog completely uncombed, half wet and they will be rude to you if you ask for explanation. I highly do not recommend their grooming service and especially groomer Kylie L. Don't Waste your time, money and such bad experience is extra stress for your dog. We took in our Great Pyrnase and she came back looking beautiful and happy. I know the groomer had a very busy day but she was kind and helpful. I dropped off my dog Oakley at 9 AM at the Albany Petco to be groomed . Around 11:00 am were wondering how much longer they estimate the grooming will be so we could gauge what time we should leave to Salem to visit family. I tried calling several times and was being hung up on. So I thought oh maybe it's my phone? My mom calls for me to check in and see if she can get through. She gets through finally and they say that my dog was dropped off at 10 am and hasn't been started yet. They also referred to my female dog as a male. At that point I'm wondering if there's just a mix up. We're out and about so I tell my husband let's just stop by and see what the situation is. I go in and tell them Im curious about if there was a mix up, and if not ,how much longer they think it will be . Immediately the girl I talk to at the front (not the groomer) is extremely rude and says that she can't tell me that and doesn't know. They have alot of dogs, but mine is next .So I'm like okay? It's fine if it takes longer but the appointment was at 9 am and I'm not sure why she's acting like that. And also what's the purpose of making an appointment if they aren't even going to start on the service until hours later? She fires back that "they have to do what they have to do to make a living ."So I leave annoyed but saying okay we're fine to wait . We drive almost home and I miss a call from the groomer that's says "you can come get "him", we won't be continuing service because of your attitude ". Im thinking wow that's ridiculous, if she felt that way why didn't they just bring my dog out while I was there? We drive back to get Oakley and this time my husband goes in because my baby is crying and at this point I want him to handle the situation and get our dog out of there. When my husband goes in they charge my husband $100 and we get our dog back half shaved! I spoke to the manager Bonnie who said I had an attitude that her staff doesnt have to deal with. And that she saw my dog after and apparently thought that was 100% acceptable. I told her you don't shave an Australian shepherd to which she said she wasn't informed on what I requested. I being pissed off said it seemed like she wasn't informed on alot of the situation. She then hung up on me . **Most recent update is I spoke to a lovely lady named Amie (District manager) who was just as shocked as me and assured me I'd be getting a refund. They also want to ensure I can get Oakley fixed up the best we can given the circumstances on their dime. I try to buy local at local stores as often as I can. However after my experience buying a aquarium setup at the Albany Petco I will never go there again. After I showed the clerk the floor sale sign and ask her which items it applied to, only to be told it's a National Ad and not everything applies. Ok, I get that but when I ask again what applied and how a shopper was supposed to know that all I got was a condescending, disrespectful attitude as she walked off. So I returned the $96.97 worth of products I had bought the day before, went out to my vehicle bought the exact same items on Amazon for $40.00 less. So I've been going to this place years ago and slowed down a lot. I know pet store hire inexperienced people. (not the persons fault) they need a job. To keep cost down there is a lack of training. So pets can suffer at time. I work at a store that sells all kinds of pet supplies so I know. Plus I can tell by talking to staff. I had a lot of hunting dog and bred dogs to. What I'm trying to say is when your nothing but a pet store with many around the USA. Training crucial areas should be a priority. you want to bring in customers and being a expensive Store, you need to bring in a lot of customers? I don't know how many times I've walked into that store and not once got a can I help you like the olden days. Took my beautiful long haired dog to be groomed. I was very specific that I wanted her length kept and just wanted her face, ears, feet and privacy area cut. When I showed up to pickup my beauty baby girl they told me to pay and they'd go get her for me. After I paid I saw what they did. They gave her a very short almost shaved summer cut at the end of November. Not one person apologized. The manager said, "well it's not like it won't grow back". My dog is now cold all the time. I travel for work and take my dog with me to some pretty cold places. read more

I've heard so so many horror stories of mistreating animals and being extremely rude to customers. I highly suggest going anywhere but here!! Please please don't put your baby in a situation that will scar them for life. So many animals left so fearful after "grooming". Their fish are usually so sick looking and some even floating and dead, the tank is never clean. This place needs to be shut down. read more

The Vetco vaccine clinic and the grooming department is great, very accommodating and the groomers are all so sweet! Kortney was amazing, I love how she did Roxy's hair, can hardly tell she's 12 years old! Roxy is not a fan of many people but she didn't seem to mind being there at all and loved Kortney :) Definitely will be going back! read more

One star is generous. This place doesn't give two poops about your dog. My dogs hair is so patchy and uneven she looks like she came from a homeless camp. I was just in this store. I wanted to get two koi. Had them picked out and was waiting for the employee to finish with another customer. When my turn came, I asked the employee, Bonny, for my fish. She proceeded to ask how big my pond was. I thought that odd, since I have never been asked that, and it is nobody's business, but I told her. She proceeded to tell me that koi need 400-500 gallons per fish. I tried to tell her that when they got too big I would move them to my friend's ponds. She has two huge ponds on her property and has taken fish from me before. Then Bonny directed me to some small goldfish in another tank. She told me I could have some of those, but I took one look at those fish, saw that they seemed sick, and left. Basically, Bonny refused to sell me my fish, was nasty, and tried to sell me sick fish. I am very upset and don't know if I will come back to this store. read more

He recruited help and I was then schooled by a less than pleasant young lady about animal cruelty for wanting to put 3 neon tetras in a 2.5 gal tank that advertised designed for small tropical fish. I have taken my dog here to be groomed 3 times and each time the level of service has gone down. This time, however, was the last straw. I came to pick up my dog today and her nails and feet were covered with what looked like dried blood! Horrified I hurried home and upon closer examination NEARLY ALL of her nails had been cut way past the pink and my dog now walks with a limp. I am very angry and horrified that they would treat my fur baby this way and not even tell me about it. It does look like they put a clotting/disinfectant on her nails, but that's no excuse to not inform me! Worst customer service. I waited until they paged someone to get me a $4.99 fish. A guy stepped in front of me and she didn't hesitate to help him first. So after chatting with him she finally helped me. She refused to sell me ANY fish because the one they sold me died the day before. She said I had to bring in water test before they would sell me anymore fish. I said I was not asking for refund and only wanted one $4.99 fish. She then repeated that she will not sell me any fish at all until I bring a water test in. Serious? When did petco hire fish police. She wasn't even polite about it. Hello, I am here to tell everyone do not buy any PETS from PETCO. We bought a Chameleon from them tonight and within 2 hours it died from Pneumonia.. That is where it was too hot and or too humid. An employee who knows this would have fixed the problem. The tarantula I bought is missing it's front feeding leg and has half of the other. From where the Crickets they keep in their cages when you need to take them out after the spider eats. Due to them malting they are very soft and fragile, the crickets will eat the spider. I honestly believe PETCO only needs to sell pet food and pet accessories and no live animals. PETCO needs to be banned from selling live animals!! I am appalled at how they are treating them. I will be getting a lot more evidence to build a case against PETCO. Sorry for those who like it. Should go some where else. read more

I went to petco the other night to purchase a fish. i knew they were closing soon but i arrived with 15 minutes to spare. there wasn't anyone immediately available so i looked at the fish for a couple minutes before i saw an employee. I asked her how i can get a goldfish and she looked at me and said they couldn't sell fish 10 minutes before closing.... I chatted with someone on the petco page afterwards and they confirmed there are no hours/ time limitations on selling the fish. I have a cat rescue. The cats were low on food and I had a foot injury. I noticed Petco Albany offered same day delivery so I ordered a big bag of Blue Buffalo and 4 cartons of wet food ($100 order). By 3pm the next day nothing had arrived and the cats were out of food so I called Petco. The guy who answered was clueless and just referred me to Door Dash. Door Dash the referred me back to Petco and this happened FOUR times. By this time I have cats meowing like crazy because they are hungry so I then ask for the manager of Petco Albany aka Mr Attitude problem. He started out by telling me I had ordered from Door Dash (????). I said, no the web page clearly said Petco Albany and Petco took my money right away. He knew nothing about the order and didn't want to know. All he wanted to do was be argumentative. During the phone call I got a text from Door Dash saying they were on their way with 3 items. I told him this and asked him what happened to the other two. They must have been out of stock he said. Then why did they take my money if the items are out of stock? He said check your bank account you will have been immediately refunded. I checked it while on the phone with him and , of course, I had not. I told him this and then his attitude got worse and he said," well you can't expect it to be refunded right away". I never did get any cat food. Apparently Door dash did deliver one item but they delivered it to the wrong address. So I ended up with no cat food, very little funds ( took a week to get my money back) and some extremely hungry kitties read more

So the workers have always been pretty kind here and I've enjoyed shopping for the most part. I was also excited to eventually buy saltwater fish here because the Aquatic specialist seems good, but after the experience I had with the GM (store manager), Josh, I will never recommend them again. My 11.5 year old big boy tabby cat with cardiomyopathy died unexpectedly last week due to a blood clot that paralyzed his legs. I had purchased him unopened canned food 36 days ago (4/16/23). My other two cats don't like wet food. The cashier told me I was 6 days passed the return window. I called Petco corporate to ask if there was anything that could be done, even just store credit because I was always aware of a 60-day return policy previously and not this new 30-day policy. The supervisor on the Petco customer service phone line said the store could give me a merchandise card, which I was fine with since I have 10 other pets (cats, dogs and large parrots) that I could buy food for. The caveat is that the exception is up to the store manager to decide if they want to allow. I asked the store manager with the Petco customer service on the line and he outright denied me and was super cold when I teared up about my cat. He straight up copped an attitude and stormed back into his office which made me cry really hard just at the cold treatment and the sensitivity behind losing my big boy kitty suddenly. The Petco customer service manager still on the phone kindly apologized and said she was so sorry, but the damage has been done. Josh is incredibly unprofessional in his demeanor and approach. Even if he has to deny me the exception, that's fine, but there's a KINDER way to do so especially when your customers love their pets very much and have been a Petco customer for over 20 years (and I've worked for Petco for ~5 years, first as an associate and also in management). I don't have a huge return history but I sure have a huge purchase history with Petco. What an absolute disservice to pet parents. I will end up donating premium wet food to a shelter but I'm so upset by this instance with Petco Albany. They could've easily resold these cans, with the expiration dates in 2025 and 2024 depending on the brand (Nulo, Wellness Core, BB Wilderness, Orijen). read more

Not sure if they are just consistently busy or if they are always understaffed, but every time I come here I have to wait at least 5 minutes in line. I once asked for someone to help me find something and it literally took so long for anyone to help and I had to ask several times. The first time I came here I got a bunch of stuff, but the total didn't really make sense. I looked at the receipt when I got home and they double charged me twice for 2 different items. I sent my husband to go back and get our money back and they were snooty about it. They are way overpriced on everything. It is cool to go and see all the animals and they all seem to be well kept. There is one employee here that is very nice and was knowledgeable and helped me in my decision of what kind of dog food to put my puppy on and so that was cool. read more

I put one on and a little while late it fell just below my nose and she jumped back freaking out and insisting it be up. She was already quite rude in tone and actions so I ended up leaving. I was refused a single 20 cent goldfish because the employee decided my setup was not up to her personal moral standards. You can buy minnows and gouge them on fishing hooks to feed other fish. You can buy goldfish en-mass to feed other fish. Let's not forget petco struggles to keep their own fish alive. I have never managed to buy a fish from petco that didn't have some active illness that needed to be quarantined. For pete's sake, the conditions the suppliers raise the fish in are atrocious and petco keeps tanks over stocked or leave dead fish littering them and betta's in little cups until they either die or are sold. This employee tried to tell me it was more ethical to put a molly or betta in my set up, even though they need MUCH better filtration than a goldfish does to live. The hypocrites sell freaking bowls with no filter at all but won't sell a feeder fish to an experienced hobbiest? I am not going to support a business that pushes morals on the public yet uses every unethical tactic they can to make a buck. I walked up and and ask do you have large crickets! ( there has been a shortage for some time) instead of a yes or no, I got " you need to put that face mask back on". Side note my face mask moved to just under my nose because while waiting in line for 20 minutes I had to tell my 8 year old no he can't have the shrimp, no he can't have the hermit crab enclosure, no he can't have that frog, no he can't have the lizard etc, etc, etc! Listen waiting in line forever, waiting for some darn crickets while your kid is so hard trying to talk you into a new pet when all you want is to buy some darn crickets and your customer service rep. Can't be considerate of said customer, I'm really done with this place. Really it fell for a second under my nose and you can't have any common courtesy to say " yeah we do" I would of pulled it up when I realized but I told her, you know what, that was completely rude! For starters those pictures aren't of this actual Petco. So I've had few good experiences here, although they have some very good customer oriented helpful employees. However FEW. So going though my experiences here, for starters don't call in, every time I've called in I seem to get the person who is having a bad day, or just has a huge chip on their shoulder because they're so unsatisfied with their job but still working it for some reason and put you on hold for AT least 10 minutes before returning and actually forgetting what you wanted before "transferring you again" and telling you the store doesn't carry something every other petco within 50 miles does, and that they sell online. Secondly I've gotten attitude when picking out an animal because the female employee helping me grabbed a different one than I wanted, when I pointed it out she argued that this was the one I wanted and I told her no, so she persisted with an attitude and said you point it out to me, I was even trying to help her catch the one I wanted and she was unappreciative and had bad customer service skills. Thirdly the employees are not entirely if very well knowledgeable in their areas of expertise when it comes to the "more exotic" i guess you'd call it animals. I went in to make a purchase in the reptile department and was told to only feed my pet once every two weeks, I was also told to stick to a specific, inadequate diet, and I was told that the reptiles were handled daily to get them prepped in socialization. I wanted to find out as much as I could from the individual since they told me they had a great deal of knowledge on this particular species. So that night when I went home I began to research like crazy about my new animal and I acquired a great deal of knowledge, more than I had, and more accurate than I had from this particular employee. Over the next few days I got a proper set up, returned some unneeded items and found out the most current and appropriate care for my new addition. A few days after my purchase I had returned to the petco to get some food for my daughters pet guinea pig, and saw that same employee trying to get a water dish out of the same animals tank that I had just bought, there were two other animals still in the enclosure, the whole "handled daily" I'm only left to assume wasn't true because one of the animals was on the dish and the guy was trying to flip the animal off, when that didn't work he smacked it off with his hand. My animal was very antsy at first at being handled and I can definitely see why if this is how he was treated. The diet that the employee insisted that I feed my new pet and the absurd amount of time in between feedings couldn't be more from the truth. In fact there have only been two studies done on this particular animal in the past decade in the same area with the same animals which wouldn't give enough statistical evidence to infer the results since it was biased and not representative of the population. The employee said that mice were too fatty for my new pet and shouldn't be fed, that he should live off of a bug (cricket) diet. I further went and spoke with both veterinarians and reptile specialists on the matter, baby, and adult mice are too fatty if fed consistently as a main diet all the time, however in between juvenile mice are acceptable, when fed every few days. I can honestly say bugs crickets and roaches would not satisfy my boys hunger in any way they're like potato chips. When I went into get mice the employee and another that worked in the same department on different occasions questioned my purchases and asked if I had a snake, seriously? This is rude and none of their business, but I figured I'd clue them in on the information that they gave me according to much research of various websites, forums, actual licensed veterinarians, and reptile specialists. TO WHICH I was given extreme attitude and told my animal would die soon from internal problems. I'm more than happy to say my pet has been growing, is active, and happy. I feed him daily, I feed him a proper diet, of insects, grubs, mice, raw meats and sea foods, raw egg occasionally hard boiled as a treat. Contrary to belief of these employees my pet does not and refuses to over eat and is maintaining a healthy weight and growing fantastically. I usually opt out of going here and go to Rileys Reptopia for my reptile needs, and coastal farm and feed for my canine, feline, and other animal needs. The staff at these places are able to answer my questions better, and offer an attitude free, comfortable space to do my pet shopping. read more

I had an appointment for my new pup for grooming today. Drove all the way from Millersburg to Albany only to be told that there was NO GROMMER. When I demanded to see the Manager I asked why in the Hell couldn't have called. The Manager didn't say sorry only that he wanted me to leave his store immediately because I swore at him. I go every two weeks to have my new standard poodle groomed. EVERY time I've had to wait forever ( checkers and other employees see me waiting never ask if I need help or call to grooming department till I say something) . Last two grooms I've asked for nails to be trimmed and hair in ears to be taken care of and not done!!!! Grooming at PETCO has done it again. Took our pupp in for a hair cut. Then we received a phone call that our dog was on its way to the vet. We asked why and Ariel that works for the grooming department cut our pupp on the bottom lid of her eye. Well when we got to the vet our pupp has a big cut and needed stitches. Asking questions because we are concerned pet owners, one employee tells me that the time our pupp was cut on her ear it was the same groomer. How does PETCO allow this to happen over and over.
