Pergolina is a small, quaint boutique in the heart of Toluca Lake, on Riverside dr. that has been around in the area for many years. The place is cute, nicely decorated, with great gift ideas on display. A bot of everything: candles, home decor, jewelry, lots of it. Prices are a tad on the higher side, but the quality is very good, worth the splurge from time to time. Cute place to shop at. Parking- a bit of a hunt in the area, some street parking around. Saturday afternoon was an art show in the store. I had some lovely convos with some friends outside, I grew up in the neighborhood. I started to go into the shop with my dog, and we ran into another woman with her dog, funnily enough. I was 2 steps inside, saying, "I don't know" to a man next to me because it was really crowded for my dog & me. As I scanned the area I was told by Paulana to "Go out, it's too crowded". Total gut hit. Something's off with her. Which reaffirms my philosophy: If someone's mean to you, there's nothing wrong with you, there's something wrong with them. Couldn't get out of the store quick enough. This not the first uneasy interaction I've had with her but it is the last. Women, it's time to call out the statusizing we experience from each other. So the stuff you will find in here is cute, super cute in some cases, but I can't escape the fact that this is still Toluca Lake and not Robertson, so charging almost $28 for a place mat, $89 for a knitted scarf or journals coming in at upwards of $60, just seems like a bit much. In fairness though, Pergolina is located on one of the hippest little sections of Riverside, next to Weekendz Only, Lucy's 51 (yay, love this place!), Eight-18 and one of the best little nail shops around, Cosmo Nails, but even so, I think they would be better off lowering their prices just a tad. read more

Ok. I know I've been giving a lot of 5 star reviews lately, but the gods have been smiling down upon me with some really stellar places. Pergolina is an amazing gift store. I happened upon it one day after deciding to walk around with a latte in Toluca Lake. I've lived in the area for a while, but I had never set foot into Pergolina until a week ago. I have been back 3 times since (due to a bunch of birthdays/openings/etc., - you get the idea) Now, gifting for me has always been an issue. Do you go with the gift certificate? Try to get them cute from Kitson? Sanrio? Something that deals with an inside joke or something sentimental? Pergolina is the answer to all my gifting problems. I actually met Pergolina herself. She is a delightful woman with an amazing eye for well crafted items. She supplies her store with unique, hand crafted, and/or original gifts, many of which, can be personalized. This is a sweet little shop that you would expect to find in Paris or something. They have odds and ends from all over. Bracelets, necklaces, books, domestications, clothing, art and more! Not much in the way of masculine gifts. To be fair, that seems to be the case with a lot of gift shops, but it's still disappointing. I've found nice housewarming and holiday gifts here for women, though. What actually chapped my hide today is that they now have a new, un-posted cash-only policy for items under $15. Since this is the only place resembling a stationery shop close enough to work to go on my lunch break, I went in here looking for a couple of birthday cards. I spent a few minutes looking over the card display (cute selection, but again, why no masculine options?) and approached the register with my selections, only to be told that I couldn't make my purchase if I didn't have cash. I had no intention of buying a nail brush made from a real nail or a scented candle I don't need, so, I left empty-handed. Waste of time. Grrr! read more

I came into this store in search of a Venetian carnival mask like I had seen on their website and found a great selection of handcrafted Venetian masks and a lot of other very pretty and cute items. They have a very nice selection of whimsical and charming items, many of which are from Italy. Also the lady who owns the shop and the other salesladies are very nice and helpful.
