Defective Bottle & Shockingly Poor Service -- Not What You Expect From a Niche House…read more I first discovered Le Labo in Paris in 2024 and purchased Thé Matcha 26. It quickly became a staple in my fragrance rotation. When I returned to the U.S., I was pleased to see there was a boutique at Santana Row, so when my original bottle ran out I purchased another one there in 2025. Not long after, I noticed something unusual: the bottle was draining far faster than my Paris purchase ever had. After inspecting it closely, I discovered micro spider-web cracks throughout the glass bottle (see photos). The fragrance was clearly evaporating through the compromised glass. For context, I've been collecting fragrances for decades -- everything from designer houses like Prada and Giorgio Armani, to niche brands like Chris Collins and Le Labo. I've owned dozens of bottles over the years. I have never once encountered a bottle degrading like this. So today I went back to the boutique with both bottles -- the intact Paris bottle and the cracked Santana Row bottle -- assuming they might offer some reasonable accommodation for what appears to be a manufacturing defect. Instead, I received a curt: "You should have come back earlier." That was the entire response. What makes this particularly ironic is that the counter prominently advertises Le Labo's 20% refill program -- the brand's whole philosophy is built around customers returning with their bottles for refills. Yet when a clearly compromised bottle is brought in, the store suddenly has no interest in helping... or filling the intact bottle from Paris (????) The real shame here is that I was fully prepared to purchase another bottle anyway. Even a modest gesture -- honoring the refill price, waiving sales tax, anything -- would have turned this into a positive experience and kept me coming back. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and indifferent -- which is particularly jarring in what is supposed to be a luxury fragrance environment. Perfume collecting is a long-term relationship with a house. I would have happily returned every year to refill Thé Matcha 26 and likely purchased other fragrances as well. I would've sang praises and told everyone to shope here. I would've upgraded the size of my bottle, mostly to avoid with this particular defect again. Regardless.. I would have been a bigger source of revenue for Le Labo. But after this experience, I'll take my business to other niche perfumers who actually value repeat customers. The fragrance itself is excellent. The service at this boutique, unfortunately, is not.

I reserved an appointment for 2 ahead of time for a Sunday and am so glad I did! I believe they have a promotion if you come in on weekdays. The team was so sweet and patient as we asked questions in crafting our perfect scent. At some point, my head started hurting just because of how overwhelming it can be in a fragrance-heavy environment. The lovely staff member who helped us (I forgot her name!) helped throw away the scent strips that I didn't like which made me feel so much more comfortable. She was also incredibly helpful in explaining the different notes and layers. We ended up each getting an Eau de Toilette ($99)! I am curious about how my scent would be like in a perfume oil so I may consider that next.

The process felt very relaxed and we were encouraged to take our time sampling and exploring until we found the right combination. The store itself, is a great place to pick up gifts and unique merchandise that would be a joy to give. An enjoyable experience and highly recommend if you're looking for something interactive, creative, and a little different.
