Fernando is a fast talker. I came looking for a Valencia orange tree. He jumped in his truck and said he'd be right back but for me to pay inside with another person. I said I want to be able to choose mine. He said he'd bring a few back. Another worker said he dropped one off by my truck. No selection and no Fernando as he has someone else deal with me. Additionally he said tree would be 4-5'. It was maybe just over 3'. I won't be going back. read more

i bought a bareroot Bleinhiem Royal Apricot at Costco it was from Performance Nursery Somis Ca. i did soaked the roots and planted it and after a couple months the roots stock started to sprout peach leaves but nothing on the apricot graft .So I called them and a lady answered and said it was just being slow coming out of dormancy. so a couple more months went by and nothing from the apricot graft so i did a scratch test on the upper part of the tree and found it brown and dead so i cut it off and then tested more of the graft and i found the graft was completely dead.i emailed them sent them a photo and no reply, i wanted a replacement so i called them again and this time it was a guy and the guy said for me to contact costco .....so no help here with their own tree.I will never buy another bareroot from costco with the tag of Performance Nursery on it read more

Horrible service. Went there for a large purchase of 20 large plants. They only had half so they said they would order the rest. Two weeks later no call from them. I called and the guy said they got them that day and to come pick them up. I went with a rented truck to pick them up and the guy acted like he had no clue what I was talking about and told me I must have ordered them somewhere else. But I ordered them in person at the location, so I am not confused. Don't go here unless just picking some small items out of what they have. read more

I went here for the first time and fell in love with the super knowledgeable staff. They know everything about plants. Took a lot of time with me to help me choose the right plants for my space. I was told to go to performance to check out their trees.. I was looking at replacing a tree in my front yard.. Wow! What a wonderful place.. The staff was so nice.. I'm truly out of my element with plants and gardening in general. Maribelle really took her time and showed us around.. We got golf carts and went looking for trees.. explaining pro and cons.. I went home with tons of information. I ended up choosing a Crêpe myrtle after some research of my own.. I went back looking for Maribelle, she was so helpful before. She once again helped me choose a great tree with some other basic plants for my yard.. I was really excited to get home and start planting.. I will continue to go back.. I bought a Lapins cherry tree from Costco with the performance Nursery label on it and a phone number. I called that number to get some information and the woman I spoke with was rude from the second she answered the phone. She sounded imposed upon for being asked a few questions and wasn't forthcoming with information. Rather she was impatient and short. When I told her she wasn't very friendly, which was putting it nicely, she just hung up. I called back to ask for a manager was told there wasn't one. I asked to talk to the owner and left my number. Frank, a "manager" called when just last conversation there was no manager. He told me the woman was a sales rep and she accused me of being abusive and rude. Frank seemed imposed upon too by having to hear about his rude employee. I asked to speak to Tom the owner and asked for him to call me. Both employees I spoke to gave unsatisfactory service and I'll refrain from buying any plant with their label on it. I also filed a formal complaint against this vendor with Costco, where I bought the tree, in which I'm a former employee of. Costco Management was notified of my grievances towards Performance Nursery in Somas, CA and are currently moving it up the chain of command for review. Sincerely Dissatisfied, Scott Moran read more

Performance Nursery is a great example of a small local business with fair prices, great employees, and community involvement. I'm most familiar with the Somis location, though there are several in our area and throughout California. Having worked with Tom and Performance Nursery as a customer, fellow Rotarian, in small business advocacy and for local charities, I'm happy to vouch for his generosity, quick response to concerns of customers and neighbor's, and continued support for the local community. His employees are some of the kindest and most knowledgable I've met in the industry. They love their work and they love their boss. This is part of why it's a pleasure to shop there. Prices are reasonable also. Despite losing his 20 acres of leased property after decades of local growing, (and despite the signatures of thousands of local supporters, neighbor's, government officials and agencies fighting for the company), Tom continues to mange multiple locations with grace, concern for neighbor's and care for his employees. I have been at Performance but I haven't been very impressed. I got two cherimoya trees recently; the workers didn't know how they looked. They asked me if that was cherimoya. Before picking the trees up, I called twice, and I got different prices both times. When I bought them, they gave another price. The trees were not looking great and I called them to ask what to do; and they didn't know anything about them. they really don't have a big selection of anything and the plants don't look too healthy. read more

In regards to Janine M's review. I just want everyone to know that she works for Tom Lucas as his public relations officer. This puts a taint on her review as it is her job to help spin his business. I first want to remind you that he was evicted from his last grow lot for many legitimate reasons that I now understand better since he has moved to Home Acres. I live by to his new grow lot and see first hand ? I have trucks, employees and the owner blocking my driveway unnecessarily. I have had employees speeding in and out. Quick response to his neighbors concerns, hah. One employee's family member hit our parked car and ran. Numerous calls to both Janine and Performance Nursery yield no responses. Janine finally told me call the cops and use your own insurance. I still haven't be compensated for the damages to my car. After many complaints about dust, no dust control has been implemented even though it is a federal law. One time last week the gravel road was watered. I have even had his bulls get out of the nursery and graze in my yard, twice. On and on.... no real concern for the neighbors. He might put up a sign or two but then says, "I have no control over my vendors or employees" He is not even following the simplest laws. He claims that for farmers, there are laws. All talk no walk. I rate a man by his actions not his idle chatter. This is not a small business. According to manta.com , he generates 10 to 20 million dollars in revenue a year with 50 to 99 employees. I would love a small business with that revenue. Imagine the amount of traffic a business this size generates. If he was generous to others than he would not impact our small quiet neighborhood with his large loud fast moving trucks. if he was generous he would move his farm trucks to the farm roads where farm trucks belong. As I type this I have had 5 large trucks past my house. It is just like having trash day six days a week from 7 am till 5 pm. I used to be out in my yard 4 or 5 hours a day. I no longer work in my garden or grow my vegetables. I can no longer go out there, I cannot be happy in my house or yard. I have lost my sense of privacy and my peace. Not a nice way to live. read more

This nursery has a lot to choose from. I provide services to the yard and so see a lot that goes on. This has led me to purchase 'home' items for myself. Fernando at the Somis yard is awesome. He knows his business and guided me in what I should get based on what I wanted. They also have huge inventory for larger, more quantity needs. Purchased plants from them over the phone, cared pansa, and they delivered pots with mostly dead material in them. I was told just fertilize and water them. I did and what was left died. Only a couple of living stumps remain. Won't EVER purchase from this place again. They tried to justify delivering empty/dead pots to me. If there were zero stars I'd give zero stars. read more
