Performance Archery is like a second home for my husband and I. Phaen, JR, Craig, Bob, and everyone else on this staff are some of the most welcoming people I have ever met. I am new to archery and being 5 feet tall I didn't think this would be a sport I could get into. During my first visit JR worked with me for over an hour finding a bow that would work with my very short draw length. My husband and I came back several times to check out all the different types of bows and hunting accessories and we were always welcomed and assisted as soon as we came in. When it came time for me and my husband to buy our bows and pick out our accessories Phaen helped us out. It was amazing to me that he was not interested in selling us the most expensive stuff but instead the things that they have success rates with and can tell you the pros and cons. Came to see if my bow's setup could be adjusted -- no questions asked, sure let's take a look. Checked all its settings and my particular anatomy: draw length, anchor points, peep height, the works. On site 2nd opinion, confirmed that I should have gotten a slightly longer DL bow, but that I could work with what I had, and the current settings. Confirmed with other bows with longer 32-32.5" DLs, which they have aplenty in stock, like the Matthews Traverse and Hoyt Helix Ultra. Super positive experience with Taylor, so pulled the trigger with a bow tune by Tanner, who clarified how to zero my sight, updated my arrows to stiffer spines, all other questions answered on arrows, field points, stabilizers. Picked up more arrows, points, and a Shrewd stabilizer, but most importantly, felt confident in the choices and the advice. Was an hour drive to get here, totally worth the trip. Will be returning here as my pro shop of choice. read more

The owner, Bob Fromme, is extremely welcoming and knowledgeable! His collection of archery mounted trophies are worth a stop in alone! I called in and spoke with Alex to inquire about pricing on a new Hoyt I was looking to purchase. He was awesome from the start. He priced everything out and offer a few suggestions. This being my first bow, I welcomed everything he was willing to offer. I later came to the shop ready to purchase. Alex quickly set up a Hoyt Pro Defiant 34 for me to try. He allowed me to use his personal release and gave me several beginner tips. I fell in love with the bow and he assisted me in ordering my own. He lent advice on every aspect of my setup. I went my own way on a specific sight. Once my bow came in he shifted around his schedule to accommodate mine. He had my new Hoyt set and dialed in before I arrived. After shooting for a bit, I realized the sight I purchased was a bit too complicated for me. Without hesitation Alex and Bob stepped in and offered recommendations on another. Alex swapped the sight for me and assisted in getting it dialed in. What a difference! Love the new Black Gold they recommended. All in all, Alex has spent several hours ensuring I received all the attention I needed. He made sure my new Hoyt setup was exactly what I wanted. Devin, Montel, Gayla, and Bob are so welcoming, kind, and helpful! I come here for their indoor indoor range when I don't feel like driving from UTC to Balboa Park (Outdoor Archery Range). It is $8/hr; you come in, find the clip board, sign in your name and time you start. When you are done, fill out the time you end. It is based on honor system - you tell them at the cashier how long you've been shooting. I come here just for their excellent 20yard indoor range to shoot my Samick Sage Recurve Bow, but I quickly find everything I need for archery at a very affordable/fair price. Devin even replaced my bow strings since I'm a frequent customer. This indoor archery range is truly a gem if you live in or near the golden triangle. I will continue to show my support for Performance Archery because they are so friendly and professional. Everyone is experienced and is more than qualified to assist a new archer setting up what works for them, and all the way up to those who know exactly what they want. Bob isn't just full of great stories but, if you get to know him, advice too. Taylor and Tanner will dial you in so precisely that, if you miss, it's not the shops fault. Went to this shop to shoot the new mathews triax. I walked in, they set up the bow and I was able to shoot it right away. I didn't end up buying it but overall it was a good experience. I went back a few days later with 2 friends who were both intersted in making a purchase. Both myself and one of my friends are white and other friend is Asian. They set the triax up for my white friend to shoot and he bought it after 7 shots. Dropped $2k on a brand new bow. We asked if our Asian friend could shoot an entry level bow next. He was told he needed to pay $15 for them to set a store bow up and shoot it. I pointed out that they didn't charge myself a couple of days before and didn't charge the other guy either. they stated that they were going to charge him because he might go online to buy it and not buy it from them. They weren't concerned that two white men with beards who look like stereotypical hunters would buy online but they were concerned that the Asian would. They were very unprofessional and rude. If there is a policy then it should apply to every customer, not just the ones who don't fit into their racial and cultural profiling box. The unprofessional way they acted towards my friend has lost this place 3 customers who are all willing to spend large amounts on quality products. I'll be taking my business to other local shops from now on. read more

I've grown up in San Diego and have never hunted or participated in archery/hunting (I don't even know any bow hunters)...my 10 year old son and I have been watching hunting shows on cable for years. We decided just to head over to Performance Archery one day to see what it was all about and maybe demo a few bows just to have a good time on the range learning about something new to us. We met Craig at the register when we walked in and told him what we were looking to do and that we had ZERO experience. We got set up with bows that were tuned to our skill level, strength, and size and we went to the range (which is inside the store) to further tune and get instruction. Shooting arrows for a newcomer like me was a very daunting and humbling experience which is probably why I liked it right off. On the range, there were men & women with varying skill levels shooting at different distances. The people/staff we encountered were nice and helpful. I felt like the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a positive experience...we met Bob the owner and he gave us some tips as well and corrected our form. This place used to be my Dukedome. Archery is one of my most favorite hobbies and if you ask me, I honestly believe that this is the best archery range in all San Diego. I would come here often and spend hours shooting. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, giving out pointers on how to improve my skills especially as a left hander. They have JOAD which was fun. As far as shopping goes, they have a great selection of bows both recurved and compound, arrows, reading material, accessories, you name it! Never had a problem with parking even during weekends, they have good sales deals and events, and it's affordable. read more

As an archer we are lucky to have the knowledgeable staff at Performance Archery to assist with new purchases or fine tuning/ repairing existing equipment. The personal attention/service that is provided by Bob/ Phaen and the entire crew has made me a much more effective archer. The shop has all the newest merchandise fair prices and special ordering for specific sizes/finishes is never a problem. This is the best resource for both the the novice or experienced archer. In my opinion it's well worth the 1 hour drive from Orange County. If I can't schedule the time to make the trip in person it's easy to place an order over the phone and have it shipped. This is a phenomenal pro shop. I worked with Tanner, one of the bow technicians and he was amazing from start to finish. I spent many years hunting with a recurve which I lost in the 2007 Witch creek fire. My priorities finally got back to a point where I could get back to bow hunting and I wanted to get a compound bow this time around. Back in the early 80's I used to go to Performance archery when they were down Miramar road a little farther so I knew who I wanted to buy from and I'm glad I did. The guys in the shop are very knowledgeable and super friendly, I must give special thanks to Mike, he got me set up and showed me techniques that got me hitting bulls after one sight adjustment. He was very easy to work with and acted like we've known each other for a longer time, I greatly appreciate the time he spent with me and has me going in the right direction as I continue with this sport. I am brand new to Archery. I bought a Hoyt Satori riser and limbs recurve bow. I owned the bow for six (6) weeks, and in that time, due to travel and busy work schedule, I shot the bow 3 times at Willow Creek. I went back to inquire about trading in and exchanging for a Compound bow. At first, there was a misunderstanding, and I thought Performance Archery would not exchange the bow or take it back. I initially submitted a poor review. Performance Academy contacted me and told me it was a misunderstanding. They invited me into the store, and the end result, Bob Fromme approved a full refund on the Hoyt Satori Recurve Bow. I worked with Phaen to select a new Compound Bow, which I was able to apply the refunded amount to. I arrived at performance archery and was asked if I needed help within a few seconds. Answered my questions and helped me make a desicion on a new sight. They installed and set the pins. I was able to use their range until I got my 20 yrd pin right on. Later that day I shot my bow at Morley range. All my otheŕ pins needed no adjustment. My husband and I went with our son for a family outing yesterday to see if this might be a fun event to do together. We absolutely loved it! We had a one-hour beginner course with an instructor named Craig. He was incredibly knowledgable and helped us learn the proper technique throughout the class. We had an absolutely fabulous time! After the class, you are now allowed to go in and rent the equipment and shoot on their range. The pricing is incredible and this will definitely be something we do together for fun! My boyfriend was interested in archery and so we popped in to take a look around. He approached us in a very friendly and non-invasive manner, simply checking in to see if we had any questions or needed help. He then proceeded to take nearly an hour answering my bf's questions and furthermore offered to let him shoot some arrows, completely free of charge, with TWO separate bows, in order to get a feel for what would work best for my bf.
