I've already hired him to do some more work following the main renovation and I'll be hiring him for more future work. Now for some details: We bought an apartment in Portland but we were still living in NYC, so the entire renovation was done remotely. Anton was very easy to communicate with. He handled receiving all the materials and fixtures, and even let me send some items to his home (like a bathtub!) so it doesn't disturb my new neighbors. He also brought in my regular mail. I actually got compliments from my neighbors for how Anton's workers helped them with some random stuff. Anton promised and delivered on finishing the renovation before we moved in. While it was a pretty tight schedule, I kept making it harder on Anton by increasing the scope as the renovation progressed (because I was so happy with the work). Even though I kept adding more work, Anton was still able to finish everything by the time we moved in. He and his team are very dedicated hard workers. There are no surprises when you get the bill either, prices are given upfront and that's what you see at the end. As for the work itself - very high quality throughout the vast range of different tasks (flooring, replacing exterior windows, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, replacing kitchen counter etc.). Anton was able to squeeze every inch of space, upgrading our kitchen substantially - shifting some existing cabinets to make more room for a bigger fridge, increasing the size of the sink to the absolute maximum given the existing cabinets (which we didn't want to replace) and even installing an imported faucet that doesn't match the US voltage (for boiling water) or plumbing fittings. They advertised on their website they are licensed. But as of 10/21/2024, they have a suspended license. We contracted with Red Tail to do a siding replacement, rot repair and other work on our rental…read moreproperty. We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail. When we initially contacted prospective suppliers, we received a variety of "quotes". They ranged from a one-line email with a price per square foot, to a few generic quotations. And then there was Jonny at Red Tail. He came out and spent several hours studying the property, taking pictures and video, discussing options and their relative costs and thinking in-depth about the roots of the problems we observed. As an engineer myself, I recognized his approach was one of solving the problem, not covering it up. The Red Tail quote was somewhat higher than the others we received, and it took longer to complete. We decided to go with it because we felt that this was the only quote that had accurately captured the scope of the work, and we'd rather do business with someone who doesn't compromise on quality or try to low-ball the bid to get the work. He referred us to a recent job he'd completed in town and we stopped by to look at it. The workmanship was excellent, and the homeowners had great things to say about the job. (Funny....a lot like what I find myself writing right now!) The final bill came in higher than the original quote, as we expected. There was rot repair and some additional work that came to light as we got the walls opened up, and we were told up front that there would be as-yet-unknown costs for this. That was made very clear, and the cost of time and materials to do the extra work was fair and reasonable. I also asked for a couple of extras that were optional, but saved me a lot of work vs doing it myself. Overall we're extremely happy with the job. It looks great, our tenants were delighted with the results and reported no problems with the crew. They kept the job site very clean and neat, and did all of the appropriate remediation for lead paint and hazardous materials. Highly recommended, and we'll be calling them again if we need future work done.
