This is the second time we used Perfect Tree. The first time, we requested they prune a large eucalyptus. It came out beautifully and made for a healthy tree. This year, after the big rains of 2023, we became concerned about the same tree uprooting in the high winds and wet soil. Erick came by and suggested how to balance the tree without completely removing it. They were in and out quickly and for a very reasonable price. Very happy with them. We have two palm trees whose fronds were overhanging wiring into the house, as well as rubbing against the roof. Perfect Tree arrived early (!) and got to work. Left everything very tidy, even removing weeds growing out of the sidewalk, and added some mulch around the palms. Very reasonably priced. Erick and his workmen were absolutely the best people I have ever hired to do yard work AND to build our very long fence! We have been in our house for 44 years so we've hired a lot of people. Erick gave us the best price of all the yard people I contacted. They did a great job clearing the yard, taking away all the cuttings. I will be setting up monthly maintenance with Perfect Tree. They also build fences! They tore down a very old LONG fence and replaced it with a sturdy redwood fence. The crew worked so hard and fast but they did an excellent job - this fence will be here forever. They put in 4x4's, cement, framework and redwood pickets, more than 50' of fencing. Terrific price. Eric and the Perfect Tree (I think he is changing the company name to Dog Tree LLC) is my far the best tree service in San Francisco. the service is outstanding and the price is by far better than other Tree Services. I spoke to Eric by phone and set up a time and date to meet him at my house the following week.to estimate the job. Eric says he will be there between 3p-4p. At 4pm I finally called him to check in on the appointment no-show. On the call he didn't seem to recall who I was, nor did he seem to remember that we had an appointment. He apologized and and said he will "be there in a few minutes" 30 minutes passed and still no one showed up, so I called back and cancelled the appointment. Being late and disorganized is not a good way to start a business relationship. In my experience this company is unreliable. And they lost a customer because of it. read more

I called them on Thursday,they gave me a very reasonable quote on Friday (after driving by my house and looking at the trees in question), and on Saturday morning at 9am they showed up to do the work. Erick Varela was referred to me by a friend who had a large tree removed from a backyard in a SF home. I had a large pine tree that was in danger of falling and damaging property - mine and my neighbors. Erick came round with a colleague and assessed how to remove it. It was a very difficult job because there are about 100 steps between the street I live on and where the tree is located. Basically, Erick had to figure out how to cut down the 60ft without damaging my fence, hot-tub, neighbors roof, my garden, and also the huge problem of taking out all of the debris. We coordinated the work when street cleaning was happening so that he could park a large bin for all of the wood. The original estimate was very reasonable and he estimated 3 days work. The work began Wednesday morning and the tree was basically down by that evening with Erick and 3 others working hard all day. Erick and his another worker spent 1/2 a day cleaning up the next day, removing saw-dust, pine cones, branches and even cleared my neighbor's cutters when I asked them to remove branches off their roof. I am extremely happy with the result... was really dreading the job, but I can honestly say that he did a really great job. No damage done to anything despite how large and difficult the job (seemed to me - at least). I have no hesitation in recommending Erick and Perfect Tree. read more

My poor flowering plum was dying after decades of pink blooms every spring and dark purple foliage all spring and summer. Perfect Tree advised me on getting a permit from the city to replace the street tree, and gave me a very reasonable bid to remove the tall tree and plant the new one. Erik and his fellow worker showed up right on time, cut down and dug up the roots of the old tree, and planted my new 15-gallon Krauter Vesuvius flowering plum ordered from Sloat Garden Center on Third Avenue. Erick Varela of Perfect Tree pruning service left a business card on our door last week. We have 5 very large magnolia trees in front of our property that were long over due for pruning. I called Erick the next day he answered the phone and said he could come over to the property between 4-5p and give me an estimate. He was right on time. I pointed out that we wanted the tree crowns thinned about 25% and not just chop at the limbs. He understood. I also pointed out a mature Queen Anne Palm that was also in need of some pruning help. He gave me a fair quote on the spot showed up early the next morning with another guy and they got started. Erick has an eye for balance and visualizing how trees should look in an aesthetic way. He stood across the street directing the other guy who was in the tree while he carefully snipped limbs to get the right balance of light and air. It's like getting a good haircut. They were quiet, didn't make a lot of noise and cleaned up everything after wards even sweeping the neighbors driveway. They were here about 7 hours carefully tending to the trees. The next day they returned to tackle the palm tree in which they cleaned off all the dead frawns from the trunk and pruned in a symmetrical way. The guy was like an gymnast shimming up the trunk of the trees. You can tell they have lots of experience doing this type of work. I would highly recommend them. They were very reasonable, neat, timely, and careful artists shaping the tree crowns. Several neighbors have already stopped by saying "Wow, the magnolia's look great, who did them?" We have used Erick's services for 3 years - he is exceptional. Sometimes when a contractor gets successful they get overpriced or unreliable but NOT Erick. His prices are fair (not cheap or expensive ... Fair!) and his work is EXCEPTIONAL. We have a very large tall Queen Palm and Erick and his partner scale the tree and chop off 20' fronds with thorns and haul them away. It is quite a big job and they completely clean it up when they are satisfied with the trees shape and health. Our garden and plantings are taken care of and the sawdust and scraps are all removed. Erick also trims our Bottlebrush and Cherry trees, as well as some large bushes and vines. Our place looks so good in front that we often get compliments and the backyard garden (with our huge palm) is sunny and an oasis. I hope that Erick can maintain this quality and fairness - he is a pleasure to work with (calm, courteous, on time and even nice to pets). I give him my highest recommendation. read more
