Stopped for the first time today while in Matlacha for the week. It's a café that came highly recommended from several locals. While I wouldn't say that I "highly" recommend it, it's a decent stop for breakfast and coffee drinks. The waitstaff was super nice, prompt and helpful. I think every single employee asked us if we needed anything. I ordered the chai latte and the Mr. ordered a mocha. The large mocha is LARGE. Hysterically so, actually. The chai wasn't a strong as I prefer, but it was okay. I had the Crabby Big Daddy omelet (9.95) and he had the special -sausage, Arugula, provolone (8.95). Both were huge portions and fairly tasty. Everything could have used some more seasoning, but again...you have to cook for the masses. Second trip: Coffee was delicious. Bagel with salmon spread was absolutely smothered in pink cream cheese that didn't taste like salmon at all. Chowder was ice cold. They were super busy, which I appreciate...but we had to get our silverware, we couldn't get anyone to attend to the chowder, my husband never received the rest of his food, etc, etc. Maybe go when it's not busy. I was really excited to try this place out. Knowing it was Sunday and being the tail end of season, we decided to arrive early to beat the breakfast rush. The staff at perfect cup was really friendly and nice. Getting our food took forever to come out. We had our toddler son with us so having to wait long for some eggs and a pancake was pretty grueling. I ordered the Irish Eyes. It is two poached eggs over a bed of spinach. The spinach was tasteless and pretty much took over the plate. My poached eggs were cooked perfectly. We ordered a blueberry pancake for my son who ate the whole thing. The blueberries were huge and the pancake was very fluffy. Awesome! The Perfect Cup is good and has that unique charm you see on Matlacha. I will try it again but maybe I'll just stick to getting a coffee and something light. read more

A wee bit disorganized - on 5/4 the answering machine at the restaurant said the grand opening was on Cinco de Maya/May 5th. The time of opening was not clear but the message said after the grand opening the restaurant would be open at 7:00 AM. Showed up on 5/5 around 7:30 AM and no one was there and there was no info on the door about when the place would be open. Left and took my business elsewhere. I was still curious, so I called back at noon on 5/5 and got the answering machine again. This time the message said "Sorry we missed you and the grand opening is on 5/6!" Huh? I am confused. I'm also not inclined to stop back at a restaurant that can't decide when it will be open. read more

We watched the waitress put her hand right in a plate of food. Then take it back put in microwave and take it to a table. We ordered and waited over 50 minutes and still no food. It was a circus in this place, we could not ask for any extra. We were told what the menu says is only the plate. The cook would not alter as we wanted some sliced tomatoes and could not get it. We didnt want the extra stuff as the potatoes and toast and was told it will be on the plate. We never got a refill of even the ice water. Horrible place especially for the prices they are charging. After passing by many times, we decided to stop in for an early breakfast. It was quiet when we got there but people started streaming in shortly after. It's obviously a local favorite. First off, the coffee was fantastic. Not acidic at all. I had the corned beef hash, which was very good. Salty, like you'd expect but not overly so. It was served with home fries, choice of eggs, and toast. Finally, someone in FL that knows how to make home fries! My husband had a ham and cheese omelet, which he said was good. Looking for a new breakfast place, we decided to try Perfect Cup after looking at the excellent Yelp reviews. When I walked in, I saw a quaint little island dive restaurant that probably should have been packed. After sitting, I saw the layers of dust and neglect coating pretty much anything that was a flat surface and not a counter top or table. The dirt and grease on the baseboards, and splashes of food on the on walls was inexcusable. We ordered the egg white omelet with unbuttered toast, and sausage gravy with biscuits and eggs. What arrived at the table: Pretty standard grey sausage gravy over biscuits that weren't too bad at all. Eggs were fairly underdone for OE, and contained that "egg snot", but still mostly edible. The egg white omelet was more like an egg brown omelet. It was, as I said, brown. It had to be the single most unappetizing omelet I've ever seen - let alone stomached a taste from. I'll give it this: The brown omelet did not lack taste. I can't exactly say it was a great taste, but at least it tasted nothing like how it looked. As far as the "unbuttered toast" goes, it was absolutely soaked in butter. Actually dipped in the melted butter is my bet. We would have brought a few things to the attention of the staff, however none of them checked in on us after dropping off our gruel. They were far too busy showing each other Tube-You videos on their cell phones, and checking their social network statuses to be bothered by customers. There was a fly-by check drop-off and right back to the phones. Would I go back? Nope. I sure wouldn't. read more
