Perennial Connection abandoned our job and stopped responding to us. John Hod charmed us with his personality at first. We hired him in October 2018 to restore and modify our existing retaining wall. Soon after, he bait and switched us with another contractor, Mike Masciarelli, aka: Randy on Call. To this day I have never met Mike. Mike was supposed to be the "communicator" and "project manager" while John would be the mason. 6 months later the job is less than half done and both John and Mike have been MIA for over two weeks at this point. In fact, there are parts of our existing retaining wall that are in worse shape than before we hired Perennial Connection. John demolished some portions for upgrading and they currently remain demolished because they never returned. Throughout these past 6 months of torture John and Mike would go days - even a week plus - without responding. Then a text would appear: "sorry we'll be there tomorrow" to tide us over. Then they would fail to show up again. John and Mike are also poor at taking direction and/or poor masons. I'm a designer myself so was able to provide very detailed drawings of what we wanted. The little work that they did do wasn't what we spec'd and it was sloppy. The lack of communication and attention to detail is astounding. DO NOT hire these people. They will more than disappoint you. They will torture your mind and steal your money without delivering what they promise. read more

Perennial have been great! Great communication. John Came by to look at our yard when he said he would. Sent our proposal which was accepted immediately on a Thursday and they were here the following Monday to begin. Very knowledgeable about plants, trees, Flowers, bushel, etc. they ended up working with my neighbor as well. Thank you Perennial!! read more

We hired John Hod as part of a remodel of our back yard and working with him was a pleasure. We were looking for ideas and suggestions to improve our space, but when we brought in landscapers for consultations, most were noncommittal or asked how much we'd be willing to spend. John, on the other hand, took well over an hour walking our yard, offered many suggestions, and took to heart our desire to save money and reuse materials when possible. He even drew up a free schematic for the work so we could share it with the condo association. When it came to the work, John was a great communicator, arrived on time, and displayed great passion for his work. He worked hard, ran ideas by us as they came up, and during demo would even uncover buried plants and then replant them to grow elsewhere. He would frequently go the extra mile for us, identifying issues he found and fixing them on the spot (without up charges). He is accountable to his work and a great guy. The only caution I need to mention is that John's business partner, Mike (of Randy on Call), doesn't share the same work ethic. We wanted to install a fence as part of our project and Mike said he would do it. Long story short, we dealt with two months of unkept promises and still have no fence. Mike eventually stopped responding to us altogether--thankfully John interceded on our behalf and helped get us a refund for the work not completed. In terms of his knowledge about the plants, John is amazing. Don't think he would have ever failed to not impress anyone with his passion he has for the plants and his work. However, that is not enough when a customer is looking for services. He failed to turn up 3 times in a row after making appointments, leaving us in an awkward situation stranded. I found it unprofessional and frustrating because I had to hire someone last minute because our lawn needed serious help. His reasons for not turning up maybe genuine but it can't be happening over and over again. 8/8 : Yes John (Hod), I know who are and what you look like. I know about your immense knowledge of plants from meeting you and having spent 45 minutes with you in our first meeting. Now if you would start replying to your texts and calls, you would know who I am. If you were not into Lawn services, you should have not taken the job. When we built our home in 2004, Perennial Connection worked with us to create a beautiful comprehensive landscape design that incorporated the addition of sculptured planting areas that included a veritable horticultural cornucopia of trees, shrubs and perennial plants. They were involved in the installation of walkways, lawn areas, irrigation and landscape lighting. Perennial Connection continued to offer us ongoing maintenance over the years so that we can continue to enjoy this marvelous gift of nature that they have given us. All the while respecting and supporting our desire to learn and tend to our marvelous gardens ourselves. They have also done other projects for most of our neighbors with similar results. read more

About 1/3 of our backyard was mulch and trees. John worked with us, had a vision, and transformed out yard into a backyard oasis. We now have a Koi pond, a 30 foot stream, 2 waterfalls, 2 patios with a firepit!. John hates waste and loves to recycle plants from one property to another (he will thin our bulbs and bring some to another homeowner, and bring us plants from others as well). Perfect landscape design and maintenance company. You leave in the morning and your yard looks sad, you return to a magical garden. Their level of knowledge and their skill is amazing, and they're the only landscape company I found that won't fleece me or throw in some surprise come billing time. Their rare honesty and hard work go a long way with me, but their artistic skills and knowledge goes even further. I highly recommend these people. read more
