FB Budge Land Services - No mulch where there should be mulch. This area should have been included originally

This company answered the phone and came out the same day which was very helpful to me as I wanted the yard done as soon as possible. Ryan quoted me a price of $2000. After I showed him my yard and explained that I wanted mulch and both sides of the driveway. I thought $2000 was a lot of money but decided that I am better off getting the yard professionally done. Several people came out and blew out the leaves and started spreading the mulch. Unfortunately, I had to leave for a couple of hours, and when I came back, they were gone. I noticed that on one side of the driveway the mulch didn't reach the driveway itself and made sort of a curve around the hill. It also didn't go all the way up to the backyard and there was a Gap of an area. As soon as I saw that, I texted Ryan and sent photos and asked what was up with that. Getting no reply, I called the office and spoke to someone who answered the phone and told her I'd like to know when they were coming back. Shortly after, Ryan called me and said that he would stop by. When he showed up, he told me he assumed that I didn't need that area done as in his mind it didn't look like it needed mulch. I explained that I've been mulching that area for many years and it didn't look right having no mulch a portion of the way down. He agreed to fix where the mulch didn't come to the driveway but told me I would have to pay another $200 to cover the strip going up to the backyard. I explained to him that I thought the $2000 estimate was quite high and expected that the full yard was going to be covered. He told me that he charged me for 8 yards and this would require more mulch. Earlier in our conversation he mentioned that the crew put down 7.5 yards. This means he was charging me for 8 but gave me only 7.5. He said I need to pay him $200 more if I wanted that done. I said if I have to do it myself, I would deduct that money from the bill. He got upset and told me that if I don't pay the full bill, he will have his guys come and pick up the mulch. I never heard such foolishness. His wife, Brenda, called and asked what I decided to do when the guys come back to fix the hill. I told her the same thing, that I was not planning on paying additional $200. In fact, I offered both of them that I would pay half for them just to finish the job and make it right. Both Ryan and Brenda refused to compromise and accept the additional $100 payment to finish the job. Both Ryan and Brenda threatened that they would remove the mulch if I didn't pay the bill. I explained to Brenda that this is like cutting your nose off to spite your face. I've never heard of anybody doing that as a resolution to the issue. I was very happy with the cleanup of the yard, but very, very unhappy with customer service and how they spoke with me.

In about 4 weeks time my lawn was RAVAGED by grubs and completely destroyed. I wanted to give Lawn Doctor a shot to try and redeem themselves and I was given 50% off for aerating and overseeing this fall, which they did. However, prior to the over seeding they came to do another weed application and the kid basically walked around with a handheld pump sprayer for 10 minutes, for almost an acre of land, and not a single weed died. When I talked to Stacy about the issue I was told it was my fault because of lack of water which wasn't true. Admittedly, I do not have an irrigation system but I watered with sprinklers as best as I could through the summer. PLENTY of people on my street don't have irrigation systems and their lawns did not look NEARLY this bad. I will never use a franchise outfit again and definitely not Lawn Doctor, I feel they do the bare minimum, skimp on product, and don't really care what your lawn looks like as long as they get paid. I didn't even want the 'best' lawn on the street, I just didn't want the 'worst' one.

They pulled out every excuse they could including blaming previous grub damage for their poor service, bad soil and weather. The fact is they didn't seed it correctly l and said we should've bought the "power seed treatment". Aka we should've paid them even more for poor results. Meanwhile, houses all over our neighborhood have had the same weather and soil and their lawns look outstanding. They offered to come back next fall and fix their awful efforts and seed again at no charge but that doesn't do anything for the current state of my lawn. When I informed them I wouldn't be paying until they fixed the existing weeds that they didn't treat they decided to fire me as a client instead and not own up to their incompetence. Most lawn companies will come out at no charge in between treatments to eliminate any outstanding weeds but these folks refuse to own up. I highly recommend Tru green or any other service for your hard earned dollars.
