I just started using Ford's this year (2025). I've tried a number of different lawn care services, TruGreen (twice), Lawn Doctor, etc. Every year that I have used a service my lawn has looked like terrible by the end of the summer, and then I have to work like a maniac to try and get my lawn back in shape in the fall. Last year I happened to see a Ford's truck near my home in Grafton and decided to give them a call. Right from the start I received excellent service. They sent me a diagram of my lot, what the plan was, and the price was very competitive compared to the other services that I've paid for in the past. Just this week I received my first treatment. They came out on time as promised, walked the property, listened to my concerns and took soil samples. Something that the big chains never did even when suggested. Derek, the tech that came out was very professional and knowledgeable, I could tell that he was well educated on lawn care and not just throwing product down. I've known Chris Ford for over 30 years, we used to be friends and neighbors growing up. He's always been a great guy and a straight shooter. His business is run with professionalism and integrity. I should have thought to call him sooner !!! I can't wait to see how good my lawn looks this year, we seem to be off on the right foot. I have used Fords Pest Control service for the past couple of years as a duplex owner and have been extremely happy with their service. Their plan allows me to have scheduled plans and emergencies if events arise, I dealt with mice for a little and couldn't handle it on my own with multiple methods. After a couple of treatments they were able to help me identify the issues and deter/eliminate the issue. I recommend, and their Techs have always been very informative and friendly. read more

These people just do not listen to special instructions about your property.They send their technicians out as blind as blind can be without the instructions they need to do the job correctly. I have used them for many years only this year they can not seem to follow really easy instructions on what to avoid when spraying my property. If you want a company that will listen to your needs, do not call them!! read more

I use Fords for both turf and pest control. The first time I called them was when I lived in my previous home in Worcester and had a significant ant problem. They provided the service and said if there was any additional problems to give them a call back and they'd be back out to handle it. Fast forward a month and we found the source of the issue in our attic, so I called them up and the tech went up into the attic to take care of a sizable ant "home". This service was included from the first service and I was overjoyed they took care of my problem. Fast forward to my next house when I had a rather serious grub issue, they again came out, took care of it, and I figured since they were here quoting me on the grubs that I would see how much it would be for the premium turf management program. Much to my surprise, the total was very competitive. I figure if I was to buy all the fertilizer and then you add up all the application time, this was a real bargain. I have now been using them for the preventive pest maintenance for my house and turf management since 2013 and I love dealing with them. I get a courtesy call before every visit. I get honest, friendly service representatives visiting telling me what is worth to do and not worth to do. I am now the envy of the neighborhood and frequently have people tell me that my lawn looks awesome. read more

Several years ago I started using Ford's for mice in the basement; living near a wetland creates its own problems. This summer, I saw a rat. Robert came and put out bait traps; Gary has returned twice since to rebait them, and add 2 exterior bait traps. I am confident with this week's advanced treatment will work. Great efficient and quick service! We had a huge bees nest under our house and 2 days later they are GONE. Also a mouse problem and the gentleman put bait traps in the basement. Ford's has now responded to my comment, and I will update my response accordingly, addressing their points (and moving my star rating down in response because they have again chosen to be disingenuous). Their response could not have done more damage to their brand if they tried, in my mind. A mistake happened-- I was not notified of their visit, and spent nearly $200 to correct THEIR error-- and instead of just going "my bad", they lie about it? I was unhappy with the price, and they can only go "well the other guys do it too." I was told things by their employees, and relied on the information, and the best they can do it "well that's not true". Well...then why did your employees tell me that information. I can only advise people to read my complaint, then read their response, and see if this is the kind of company that you want to give your hard earned money. First and foremost, despite their claims to the contrary, I DID "reach out" to them. I wasted over an hour of my life dealing with them on the phone, explaining my points, asking for clarification and (finally) canceling their service-- after I was repeatedly told on the phone this was not possible. I was done, out of their service, and happy. I was sent a letter asking me to change my review. I updated it to reflect the contents of the letter. Yet they come back, telling other customers it's MY fault because I didn't "reach out" to them? Bull. I wanted out of their overpriced service, and I wasted a lot of time and effort to accomplish this. These reviews are to warn OTHERS, not solve what happened to me. I did that by canceling. To address their other arguments: 1. Pre-notification service calls were NOT performed prior to work. A bill was left shoved into my door while I was at work. I had no idea they were coming, and quite frankly, I have no idea if they even did the work they were supposed to do. Consider the unmitigated BS they are selling: they actually want you to believe that a guy who was mad enough to cancel because of the extra money...was called and told about my visit and the cost. If the reason I canceled is because of the additional $175 charge, why would I have let them come if I didn't want to pay? 2. This is true-- the contract was signed by someone else...while I listened to their salesman and his claims. Their attempt to paint my review of their service as untrue because it was better for us to have someone else sign is a shallow attempt to deflect criticism, which seems to be a recurring theme here. Why would it matter who initialed when the problem is that their salesperson didn't make the terms clear to both people in the room? 3. IF they allow cancellations by email, it might behoove them to inform the people who answer the phone to that effect, as I was told that I was not able to cancel by phone or email. Significantly, you'll note their response ignores the point of my complaint-- that despite being told "you can't call to cancel", I spoke to a single woman in accounting and...canceled over the phone. Whatever lame excuses they put forth, the fact that they claim to not allow cancellations by phone is itself a crappy business practice. The fact that they tell you they can't do it...but can actually accomplish it very simply is worse. That they wish to add to the fact that their employees give out false information over the phone is a strange choice. 4. I honestly don't know if it's "industry standard" to charge people more for larger square footage houses, even if it doesn't involve more work. It's also unimportant to me. If my house has the same footprint as yours, but has one more story, it doesn't take them any more time to spray around the house. Nobody was home when they made their visit, unannounced, so the only work they could have done is to the exterior. Yet they charged me more because I have an attic converted to living space? Whether it's industry standard, or just something crappy they do themselves is irrelevant to me-- they don't charge by the actual amount of work done, but by how much money they think you have, based on the size of your house. read more

We have been very satisfied customers of Ford's for perhaps 15 years. Recently we received an email notice to renew through their "new platform". To simplify the issue, we decided to stop by, pay in full, and request exactly what we had last year. Apparently, simply paying in person was not an option. Chris, whom I assume is an owner, told us that no one could help us because they (whomever "they" might be) were in a meeting. Also, the former small discount for full payment was something the "new platform" was now unable to accept, as if this mysterious "new platform" was somehow making decisions. After we agreed that yes, we actually did own a computer and that we actually did know how to use it, we could now go home open their new platform, set up our own new account, and presto we could then have the privilege of paying the bill without any full payment discount. Nothing says customer service like a business that can't simply take your money on the premises while simultaneously being treated like a moron. Oh, on the way out the door, we were advised the "new platform" was not working at the moment. Sadly, we are no longer customers. read more

We have had a problem with bats in our attic for over 20 years. I was always told that we could never get rid of them, basically because the house is so old (an English Tudor built in in 1907 and 3 stories) After a particularly frustrating summer with bats getting into the living areas of the house, we researched and found some great testimonials to Ford's Hometown Services. In September 2014 I called Bob Brooks, hoping they would come out to Western Massachusetts. Bob was extremely professional and courteous. He listened carefully to our problem and thoughtfully responded in great detail about what they would be able to do for us. He informed me that they do work in the Berkshires and have a of clients here. Leo came out and did a thorough inspection and found hundreds of bats in the attic. He thought we had 3rd and 4th generation bats living here! The estimate was where I thought I should be regarding price, considering the vast amount of work to be done. We arranged for the work to be completed in the spring of 2015 (May). Fords arrange for a man-lift to be delivered to our house and Leo came out to perform the work required. (with another guy they are training -- and I unfortunately forgotten his name :( ). They worked for 3 days, sealing up all of the nooks and cranny's where bats could and did enter the house. In 4 spots they found evidence of activity and put in one way bat tubes and did an inspection in the attic. They returned 2 weeks later to take out the bat doors and sealed up those 4 areas. Again, an inspection of the attic resulted in ZERO bats. We have not had any reoccurrence of bats getting into the living areas (we used to get at least 2 to 3 a summer) this year. They will come back in May 2016 to inspect the attic for evidence of bats. They guarantee their work and offer and extended guarantee beyond the first year -- which, given our history, we will certainly purchase. We should have done this work years ago. I am highly impressed with their fairness, honesty, degree of professionalism, and genuine desire to help their customers. I would HIGHLY recommend them. UPDATE 2018: We purchase the extended warrantee every year. The team comes out every year to inspect their work and the house to ensure we have not had a recurrence of bats in our attic space. We are still bat free! Highly recommend Fords, both in terms of their professionalism and excellent work. read more

I had a nice experience with having to deal with unwanted house/yard guests. I spoke with Joe Blake and he was very knowledgeable and immediately sent the proper   technician to my house. The first attempt to rid the pests did not result positively (which they explained might happen) and they came out a second time as they said they would without questions and without an additional cost to me. The fees were explained upfront and Joe Blake even said that if that did not correct the problem he would personally come out and take care of the problem. Wonderful customer service, reasonably priced and prompt courtesy service. We recently brought an older home that previously had mice based on droppings. I immediately had Ford's come in and do a thorough inspection and we are the maintenance plan. I have not seen any unwanted critters in or outside my home. read more

I've been on a service plan for pest control for about a year now. I don't like to judge a company on one interaction because anyone can have a good or bad day. I figured a year of service has given me a good enough sample size to write a review. I have been very pleased with Ford's Hometown in the year I have used their service from the top down. They are honest people and they never try to sell you services that you do not need. They stand behind their work and I really have nothing negative to say about them. ****Update to original review **** I was contacted by Donna who wanted to discuss with me what happened prior to processing refund for me. She listened to everything I had to say, she understood where I was coming from, said she valued me as a customer and wanted to make this right. Donna said she will look into honoring the contract price and would get back to me. Within 10 minutes I received a call back, they were going to honor the contract price and scheduled to be out on Monday. She again apologized for what happened and said they valued me as a customer. I can't say enough about how well she handled the situation, she was courteous, professional and make me feel like she really cared. Thanks to her I will now be a customer. ------------------- Where do I even begin. I asked for a quote on mosquito/tick service and then one for just ticks. I was quoted a price on both through a contract. The contract was a little confusing so I sent an email back asking for the price. I was then quoted the cost and the cost if I paid in full. I chose the tick service, signed the contract and sent it back. I called to make my payment I was told I had to pay a higher amount because I couldn't get the $75 discount plus the 7% off for pay in full because the system made a mistake. I argued that I had already signed a contract but they wouldn't budge. I wanted the service so I just paid. I was called on 5/2/17 and a message was left stating they would be out the next day and it gave information about seeding. I was confused so I called and advised I received a VM and I was asking if they were coming for tick spraying. The woman responds by asking, well did you listen to the message? Umm yes I did but it was for a seeding service? So they were supposed to come 5/3, they never did. We got no phone call advising us of this and no call stating they would be out 5/4. They came out on 5/4 and sprayed a neighbors 3 houses down!!!!! I emailed my contact and got a prompt phone call even though it was after hours. He was apologetic and said they could be out 5/8. No compensation was offered, not even an offer to give it to me at the SIGNED CONTRACT PRICE!! I asked to be refunded and he obliged without even batting an eyelash. I guess they have enough customers that they don't care about obtaining new ones. I will NEVER recommend them and when asked by anyone I will tell them my experience. read more

Bedbugs are disgusting. I do not recommend that you get them. I'm sure they could come in handy if there is ever somebody that you are extremely displeased with, such as someone who gifted you with an upper decker in your bathroom at home. You could covertly install these horrific creatures in their house and walk away laughing maniacally. That's what I would do in that situation. I manage a six-family building in Northbridge. Once upon a time, there were bedbugs in one of the units. Before we tried Ford's Hometown Services, which is awesome, we hired a different pest control company, which was not awesome. This other company was presented with a unit that had been empty of the residents and all of their belongings for an entire two hours before treatment. This was an ideal scenario, as I was given to understand it. What happened next was 3+ months of nightmares. We hired this company to reduce the number of affected units from 1 down to 0. Apparently, they misunderstood. They were successful in changing the number of bedbug-infested units from 1 to 3. Perhaps this company had a special "Torture Everyone For 3 1/2 Months And Make The Problem Worse" package that I had unwittingly signed up for, as our units were all full of very good residents whose children were being eaten by these appalling harbingers of bloodsucking misery. When I mentioned to the pest control company the fact that we were not all that impressed with their performance, the manager offered to charge us more money so they could inspect and treat the other units. If I could set a person on fire over the telephone, I probably would have. Cue Joe Blake at Ford's Hometown Services (insert appropriate superhero-themed music here). Joe Blake told me exactly what needed to be done, and exactly which team he would send in to do it. He put together the action plan, and, in an apparent gesture of pity, gave me a discount on the price. Then, they got the job done. Period. They showed up when they were supposed to, they were courteous with all the residents, and there were no unpleasant surprises. Joe and his team made certain that everything went exactly as it should have gone, and it only took them about four weeks to kill every last one of those crawling vampires. I share my tale of woe for two reasons: 1) So you, dear reader, can see what my consequences were for choosing the wrong pest control company, and 2) I like to complain. The bedbug problem cost this building thousands and thousands of dollars in lost revenue while the bedbugs were doubtlessly pointing and laughing at me, ridiculing me behind my back. Nobody wants that. Bedbugs, as I may have mentioned, are horrible and disgusting. Joe Blake, in contrast, is not horrible and disgusting. I had a wonderful experience with Ford's Hometown Services. This morning Anesti Loce came to my home to help with my pavement ant problem. He spent the time thoroughly inspecting my home and explained in great detail the method he would be using to help rid me of these annoying little ants. I particularly appreciated his thoughtfulness when it came to the pets in my home and he cautioned more than once when I could let my dog roam free after the pesticide had dried. I was provided with the name of the chemicals used and he was very thorough with the application inside/outside of my home. The price was exactly what was quoted over the phone and Anesti arrived right on time to my appointment. I would not hesitate to use their service again should the need arise. read more

I recently moved to Seattle, and contacted Ford's back in Worcester for a potential mice problem in the house I was selling in Shrewsbury. The customer service was very good up front. They came on time for their initial visit, and came for their follow-up visit 4 weeks later. Since I was across the country, I was not able to visually inspect the work they were doing. I assumed the follow-up visit would be to collect and dispose of mice. When my tenant recently complained of a smell in her apt., I contacted Ford's as to what could be done. I then learned from Bob that all Ford's does is put out poison (on both visits) that the mice eat, and then go elsewhere to die. I was told that the smell will go away. This is not reassuring information to tell my tenant from across the country. I have friends that have had to cut into walls to remove dead mice, since the smell was so bad. This very well may be standard practice in the industry, and it may be partially my fault for not asking enough questions up front. But as of now, I am very disappointed that I did not know their procedures up front, as I could have had a friend just put out traps or poison and saved the $365 that I was charged by Ford's just to drop off bait. Summary: Good customer service up front, but be sure to ask specific questions about the services you are receiving. read more

I'm a new Ford's customer. I've been battling any number in pest species. who visit my 200-year-old antique Cape from time to time and season to season, for the past 35 years. I've finally found a competent, friendly, Eco-friendly and economical solution to my pest problems in Ford's. So far, I've had direct dealings with three of Ford's reps. All three have been very knowledgeable about problems we've had with rodents, several varieties of ants, bats and biting insects. I didn't hesitate to sign on for automatically-recurring maintenance visits once I understood the broad scope of their maintenance plan. But they also respond just as quickly for ad hoc, reasonably-priced pest-control issues Know, too, that Jeff Ford, the company owner, is always available if you have any questions or comments. Its funny, I start my rating by giving them 5 stars and google says "Whoohoo! As good as it gets!" That's how i felt with Fords Hometown after all the estimates and conversations with the two guys in a truck meetings... I had 11 trees removed from my back yard and could not get anything but weeds and patchy grass to grow. For over a year i tried with poor results... Fords did a soil analysis and found that i had a mix of dry and acidic soil that they neutralized and eliminated all the grubs (my patchy spots lol) Its been two years now and I have an amazing lawn that is just beautiful. The service men are professional and courteous each time they visit they even pick up the kids toys before they treat WHO DOES THAT!!! read more

My lawn looks awesome and I always get compliments since you guys took over. Chris Ford, has a tremendous amount of knowledge in the care of the grass. Chris is a hands on person and always answers his phone when I have a question or concern. I have had 2 other companies in the past that have serviced my lawn and it always took 2-3 weeks for them to respond to my lawn. The same goes with the pest department. I was quite disappointed when I called my longtime exterminator(Jerry Poronto,from PestAway)and his voicemail message replied that he had decided to close the business and referred his customers to Ford's Hometown Services. Jerry always provided A++++ service and I respected his work ethic. He also isn't someone that just kills pests. This guy is a professional and knows his trade inside and out and absolutely everything you could possibly know about pests. I used him 3 times in the seven years that we had been in our home and for different pests and he always got rid of them on the first visit. So I reluctantly called Ford's and explained to them how I got their number. The gentleman I spoke with, Joe Blake, was SUPER informative,polite and very personable. He told me that Jerry now worked for them and scheduled my appointment that week with Jerry!! While on the phone with Joe, he was very courteous and explained the different programs they have and how they would take care of my pest problem. I told him that I had first tried to contact them through the companies email but there was a problem with the site. He then gave me his personal work email for me to contact him that way if I so preferred. Jerry was great and even continued his work outside during a heavy downpour! He explained to me that the bees nests I had were all built in dry places so he could spray them and it would be just as effective. He answered all my questions and suggested a few things I could do to help decrease my chances of new bees coming along. I highly recommend Ford's home services . BAIT AND SWITCH. Needed help getting a skunk caught. Ryan, the salesperson, assured me that we only had to pay a $95 deposit for them to come set the traps. Then, he said, IF a skunk is caught, they charge $350 to remove it. Otherwise you are only out the $95. He made this clear as day. I said, "I wouldn't want to pay in full if no skunk was caught." His response? "Oh no, of course not, that's what the $95 is for." We made an arrangement for them to come the next day in a two-hour window. My husband took two hours off of work, only to have Ford's call at the end of the two hours and say "we have no traps. We will get some tomorrow and can come then. So my husband takes two hours off the next day, and they don't come again. On the third try, which we scheduled for a week later, the trapper didn't arrive until after the two hour window, which also meant he arrived after Ford's office was closed. Anyway, the trapper arrived with an invoice that stated clearly that $350 was due upfront, whether or not they caught the skunk!! He implied that I just didn't understand the salesman. He pressured us to just "leave the trap there overnight" and we could "sort it out" the next day. We refused - did not want to be charged that sort of money. At the end of the day, my husband took a total of 6 hours off of work, we delayed action on removing the skunk for two weeks (during which time we could have hired someone else), all based on patently false advertising. What a racket. Avoid these guys like the plague! read more

We use Ford's for the turf program. Pros- Great service and the grass is beautiful nearly year round as long as the snow is gone. Cons- You will need to mow every week the grass grows so fast. :) We are moving, and I hope we can find someone at least close to the quality of service that we have received with Ford's. read more

Horrible company. I called to set up an appointment but had to cancel. They still sent someone to the house, despite canceling. They then charged me a late fee and a no show fee. They then charged me a second late fee after I called to contest the first. They then sent the late fees to the credit reporting companies, all over a cancelled appointment that then stacked numerous fees on top of. Horrible company and would never do business nor recommend. I called Bob Brooks at Ford's when I had bats in our house, hoping they would come out to Western Massachusetts. Fortunately, they did. Leo came out and did an inspection and gave me what I thought was a very fair estimate, and gave me a detailed explanation of the work to be done. He thought I had a squirrel issue also so they referred me to Berkshire Wildlife Solutions to deal with the squirrels, since BWS is located closer to my house and the squirrel exclusion had to be monitored frequently, and taken care of before the bats. Then, once the squirrels were out of the house, Leo came and sealed up the house and put in the one way bat tubes. Within days, all the bat noises were gone. Leo then came back and finished sealing the house and put on a chimney cap. Leo and Bob let me know all the work that had been done, and Leo explained in detail what he had to do, and other issues he found with my house that I should take care of. So far, no more animal noises in the house, I should have done this years ago. I am highly impressed with their fairness, honesty, degree of professionalism, and genuine desire to help their customers. I would highly recommend them. read more

Ok so there is a saying that you get what you pay for. Fords is the exception and not the rule of this. Their lawn care is so over priced it is almost unbelievable. Dont take my word for it, price out lawn care professionals and see what I am saying. Their products made my lawn look terrible.... They somehow always had a talent for making it my fault that the lawn was not responding to their products. At the end of the day we spend half of what we paid this company now and get so much more... not only that but our lawn looks so much better. Let me give yo a for example.... for core aeration, they wanted $275 for our lawn... we did it for $50 with another person and it came out great. They also have a money back guarantee... well our lawn had more crab grass and red thread than any of our neighbors and everytime I called them about it... they had a "solution" to the tune of hundreds more dollars and never once offered a discount or money back at all. Do not use this company to care for your lawn... Bottom line. read more

Called and set an appointment a week in advance. No one showed up within the time period specified so after waiting half an hour I called to see when they anticipated they would be at my house. The guy I spoke with couldn't find my name in the system and said who ever I spoke with didn't enter the appointment. His attitude was so flip, he admitted they must have made a mistake but could have cared less. So disappointed in Fords Hometown Services. Find someone better don't book with them!
