Boracay is located in Aklan Province. The culinary specialty of Aklan are their oysters. One of my cousins goes to Boracay often and suggested this place as a good way to try them, especially since this was an actual restaurant that could house a decent-sized group.
Percy Seafood is the newest venture from the Sunny Side Group, which the eponymous restaurant is one of the most beloved in Boracay. It is the main restaurant of the just-opened Seaworthy Hotel, a boutique hotel located in Station 2. Adjoining the restaurant are also the hotel's bar (Hello Sailor) and Coco Mama, a lauded dessert place.
Here is what our group had for lunch.
- Fresh oysters (apple, mint and onion mignionette, ₱590)
- Green oysters (grilled with spinach, artichoke, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, ₱690)
- Diwal (delicious and seasonal angel-wing clams. This local delicacy is only available for a limited period every year from the warm waters around Roxas. Grilled with garlic and butter, ₱990 for 600g)
The Philippines is known for their oysters but unlike the coastal regions everywhere else in the world, they're considered a "poor man's food". As an example, you can see oysters being sold in makeshift stalls near bodies of water. If you love oysters, the Philippines in general is a place where you can feast like a king, especially since prices listed are for a plate of 12, which translates to about $1/oyster. These oysters can also beat anything you've ever had in other countries!
As for diwal, although this was the first time I specifically had diwal, I've only had razor clams one other time in a tapas bar in Barcelona. These ended up being the best item on the menu due to their freshness and simplicity. Our group ended up getting a few plates as well as the fresh oysters.
Dessert was Coco Mama, whose entrance can be located in the back of the restaurant. If you eat at Percy Seafood, you can take Coco Mama's ice cream creations back to the restaurant since Coco Mama itself only has one tiny table that can fit two.
Overall, an excellent place for seafood. Next time I'm there I will have to try their crabs or their royal seafood tagine, the other signature items of the restaurant. read more
