Moreland Pumpkin Patch - The pumpkin part of the patch

Moreland Pumpkin Patch

West San Jose

I wouldn't recommend going to Moreland Pumpkin Patch if you're planning on doing the family walk…read more It was quite expensive at $15 per person, even for my 2yo. We lined up at our 730pm check-in time and waited 35 minutes in the cold and were only halfway through the line. We left because it would have been another 25-35 more minutes to get through the line. However, the staff was great and the carnival games were fun. Nice to have all of the thoughtful decorations as well, our child loved playing with all of the pumpkins.

We did not enter the trail until 720pm, and that is after getting in line at 640pm. Just be aware. Which is fine, my family had fun and the actors inside are funny and well rehearsed. However, since we waited so long, we got out of the trail around 750pm. My kid wanted to play the carnival games, which close at 8pm, so we bought some tickets to play, and were out to the carnival by 752pm, they had already taken everything down and had only a few simple games still up. My kid was bummed, but I figured since there were no refunds, I could go back and get a snack instead with my tickets. I was denied and told to come back next week to redeem the tickets. I know this is all for a good cause and it really isn't too big of a deal, but it is silly that I literally bought the tickets within a minute and then walked back after the carnival being closed and then denied to even use the tickets on anything else and then told to come back next week. They were told not to sell any tickets since they were closing up the carnival early, but I guess it wasn't communicated well. I guess we will be back to use up the tickets next weekend...?

They have a super cute little farm stand selling produce, jams, syrups, and a few knickknacks. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Cosentino's also offers classes and events among the fruit trees and flower gardens. I went for a beginner's watercolor class on a warm spring afternoon. Shaded by fruit trees, about 20 of us sat at a long table decorated with fresh-cut ranunculus flowers and learned to paint tulips (very badly in my case!) from a local artist. It was a really sweet way to spend a couple of hours and remember back when orchards were the life blood of the Santa Clara Valley. The farm features heirloom fruit varieties and picks them ripe, so I'll definitely go back in the summer for stone fruits and berries. It was a little early in the season for a good selection when I went.

It closed after a number of years and was very much missed by the community. The current family farm is set up in the farm stand style in the middle of a neighborhood. Back in the day, the woke area was dominated by orchards. Today, it is dominated by single family homes. Support your local community and do your shopping here for fruits and vegetables grown in the premises available seasonally.

This is definitely one of my favorite pumpkin patches in the Bay Area. I love how they have so many…read moresuper cool activities to do like Pumpkin Launching, Neon Paintball, a spooky Cornfield Maze with mystery puzzle, the Petting Zoo, Spooky Hay Ride, and lots of super cool rides for the kids. They also have so many great spots to take photos with your family (or boo lol) near the pumpkins with fun cartoon characters and decorations everywhere! When I went on a Sunday this place was CRAZY BUSY, it was soo busy people were parking across the street. Although it looks scary (as in hundreds of people everywhere lol) the lines went by super fast. The staff that I met in the front was very nice. :) I will say this place is getting a bit PRICEY, the prices seem to go up every year but the activities are relatively the same. I think a date for two with some activities easily hits past $80-$100. I can't even imagine what big families have to pay. *GASP* lol. It would be nice if they offered discounts for return visits, loyalty customers, or family packs tbh. These prices in this economy?! lol Just joking. (But definitely something to think about.) ...Sadly I think this place isn't affordable for most people especially if you have a big family it's $8 per person just to get in. *Eek* an entrance fee for a family of 5 would be $40 WITHOUT activities... definitely not economical but... If you have the money to spend definitely check it out! The Halloween games and activities are awesome + super fun. I will say we made the mistake of buying food here (yikes on bikes!) the food is honestly terrible lol. I went on a cold evening and was super excited to get hot chocolate to stay warm but ended up with KINDA WARM watery chocolate. *bleh* Broke my heart honestly. lol. The churro was okay though and the pretzel was.. moderately acceptable. :) Sooo overall I would say Activities: 5/5 ~definitely super fun! Value: 4/5 ~bring that wallet baby Food: 0/5 ~I would never eat this again even if they paid me lol. I still love this place but I definitely will eat before I visit next time! lol. :) PRO TIP: Bring a jacket if you plan to go in the evening, and don't wear expensive shoes because they will get veryyyy dusty + if you plan to do the Corn Maze it can possibly get muddy.

Parking is also charged ($2/car, but it feels like you're being nickled and dimed). Yes it's only $2, but after charging for entry it feels unnecessary. There are lots of photo opps here, and my kids had a blast. The petting zoo was probably their favorite activity. Staff ranges from very friendly to very mediocre. I would like to note that while the "bouncing pillow" allowed adults to participate, the staff member supervising this activity was too curt to the woman in line behind me. He straight up told her the weight limit and asked if she was there. I understand a bouncing activity is not immune from the laws of physics, but the staff member put no thought into how he came across it seemed. I felt so taken back that a man felt okay embarrassing a woman about her weight (and she wasn't obese). The staff member could have at least asked if the woman wanted to participate with her kid. Yes there was a sign with a weight limit, but maybe the sign could be more clear and certainly a little kinder to avoid embarrassing women.

This was our second time to this event and we were glad to see some improvements. This year, there were more booths for children. Through the educational and fun activities, you got to learn about the salmons in the Guadalupe River, the importance of eating vegetables, make scary spiders, decorate pumpkins, etc. They even brought out the giant Monopoly pieces for anyone to play. It was fun rooting for the little ones as they mustered their strength to roll those big dice that were each twice the size of the kid. Closer to the music stage, there was a mini straw bale maze for tots. Very cute! All aboard that colorful choo-choo train in front of Children's Discovery Museum and rode around the park. It's good to be a kid. The "carnival game alley" was a great addition but very congested with all the kids, parents and strollers concentrated in one area. As popular as it was, for next year, they should consider allocating more space so the kids could wait safely in line for the games. There were also beautiful hand blown glass pumpkins by local artists for sale. But these fragile pieces got me worried a little with so many little hands reaching to touch them. This was not a full blown pumpkin patch but it did the job for the younger ones and still a fun-filled event. Most of all, it was free to enter. The only issue was probably finding parking. I would recommend taking the light rail. Stress-free (one less thing to worry about for the parents) and it brings you to the front door of Children's Discovery Museum and Discovery Meadow where they hold the annual Pumpkins in the Park.

It's nice for the kids as there are alot of free crafts to do (spiders making, trout fish hat making, paper bag puppets, coloring, etc). There's also some small carnival games for kids to play. There are alot of sponsor booths with displays and learning info, an area where you can buy pumpkins and food trucks for food. It may only be hard to get around as there are alot of people and can get crowded. Again don't expect too much as this is not your typical fair ground festival kind of affair, but it can be nice for kids/ family to go out and enjoy as it is.

You'll see why this is an AMAZING farm and they sell AMAZING fruits/vegetables, and even more so, why the CUSTOMER SERVICE is one of the BEST in the area! PARKING/LOCATION/HOURS: - You'll definitely want to look up Google Maps or use your GPS/Waze to get there, because their place can sort of sneak up on you. They're on the north side of Almaden Road, so if you're driving south on Almaden Road, you'll want to slightly pass their stand and then find a safe place to make a 3-point U-turn and then come back, pull over, and park on the side of the road. - Along the side of the road, is where they sell their vegetables/fruits/meats/sauces, etc. They've converted an old pickup truck into a mini-trailer, that they sell their stuff from. They're open on Wed from 4-7PM, Sat from 10AM-2PM, and Sun from 10AM-2PM, for people who want to drop by and look at their products. FRUITS/VEGGIES: So this is what I initially got thrown off by, but then I was able to quickly figure it out: - When you first pull up to their stand, you're a little thrown off because it doesn't *look* as if they have a lot for you to choose from. There are a few boxes of various fruits and veggies, but my initial thought was, "Wait...there's not a lot to pick from." - But here's what I learned: The farm has SOOOO many loyal customers, that the customers use the farm's online Farm Box Google Docs Request Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScFjraAIxi62gR-X1HCY0F_AhcZ1XxlUBhC22AWcf3gV1j1iw/viewform?usp=pp_url), where you place orders online, and you basically place a custom order, from **24** different vegetables/fruits, as well as **13** different herbs, etc. Not only that, but b/c they raise their own animals, you can purchase things from chicken meat & ground pork & chicken feet & pork bones & fresh eggs & goat cheese, & even rabbit meat, and other items, such as homemade pesto, a serrano chutney/hot sauce, etc., that they keep stored in their fridge/freezer inside their trailer. The prices *are* a bit on the expensive side, but you're paying for farm-fresh, organic produce, so it's definitely worth it! For example: - Their Romano green beans taste SO amazing, that all you need is to blanch them and you can IMMEDIATELY taste the crunch and sweetness, that I actually SCREAMED over the fact that you could eat it straight after blanching, and it had SOO much flavor, without even any oil or salt or garlic! (which is HUGE for us Asians haha :D ) - And their long beans are SO more tastier than what you can buy at any supermarket b/c my family and I actually did a side-by-side taste test :D FEEDING ANIMALS - B/c the farm raises their own animals, the staff bring out some of their animals, when the stand is open, and you can pay $2 to feed the animals, which include chickens, goats, sheep, cows, & a pig. Now, this isn't a petting zoo where there are animals running around, but it's really cool to know that they raise their own animals and their fresh eggs & meat are coming from their own farm! It's definitely a cool thing that we have such a close location in the Almaden Valley, in case kids want to come and spend a short time with the animals & feed them. CUSTOMER SERVICE - Okay, so this is what makes the farm REALLY, REALLY shine!! The farm is run by a couple named Michael and Rashmi. I had the pleasure of meeting Rashmi when I first checked out the place and she's SOOO friendly and SOOO sweet. She's SUPER talented in the business/tech world *AND* overseeing a FOUR-acre farm, and on one of my visits, her young son was there and she was SOOOO patient with him, that you can tell she's a great mom, as well! Most likely, though, the first face you'll see when you pull up to the farm is Dylan's smiling face. I had earlier checked out the farm's website and was a little confused to see this smiling, beaming, friendly face of an Asian-American young guy, but Dylan is SUUPPPERRR friendly and he LOVES to chat with every single person that pulls up, whether they're a regular customer or whether they're a first-time person. He took his time to explain how the farm works and answered all of my questions. And I got to chat with him and found out how smart & talented he is, and how he's always loved farms like this and how he works at the farm 6 days a week. During my 1st visit, there were 2 people ahead of me, and I had to wait about 20 minutes to get to the front of the line, because he knows each and every customer by name and he LOVES chatting with everybody, to see how they're doing and and if you're a return customer, he LOVES to see your pictures of how you cooked their produce; he's SUCH an amazing guy!!!! Check out their farm; check out their website, and I hope that their business does well! I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer of theirs!!!
