Holiday vibes everywhere! This is the second year we've gone to Peppermint Parkway and we LOVE it! This year was even better than last. The lights are stunning! And the rides are so fun. They even have rides for tiny kids. And Santa was there. There's something for everyone. There are yummy food options too! We loved the donuts. We were there for 3 1/2 hours and made beautiful family memories.

We got the sweetest deal. fast track, and the F1 race track experience. The light show was ok but our highlight was the Formula 1 track race experience, though there was a soeed limit of mid 20mph, to be on the actual race track was fun and not much opportunities to do it. The sweetest deal included a ticket to go to the amusement park where the Go Kart was. The line was long so we didn't get to experience the Go Karts but there were lots of activities and parking after driving through the parkway. Make sure you make time for it or it's not worth just driving through the lights.

We took our grandson to see the lights at Peppermint Parkway at COTA this evening. This is probably the most organized event I have been to this holiday season. They started right on time, the lights were very pretty and the cars kept going at an even pace. Check the calendar if you're going because tonight if we brought an old electronic gadget we got to take a free lap around the track. That was interesting. I believe it cost $45 per car just to get in to see the lights but you get four free passes to Peppermint Plaza with your admission. We did not stop at the peppermint Plaza this year but a couple of years ago we did and they had some fun activities. It's very interesting to go inside the race track like that. I would definitely recommend anthis activity for a leisurely evening during the holidays!

I'm sad to say this experience wasn't quite worth the price. I'd recommend the Trail of Lights instead. At the end of the lights display, our reaction was, "No way, that's it." After a bit of a wait, they upsell you right at the start with waters and snacks. At one point there was the Grinch and one roller skater with a snowflake on her back. The lights themselves were underwhelming, and Peppermint Plaza didn't add much to the experience. While there were plenty of tables and benches, they seemed pointless since there weren't enough dining options or other reasons to sit down. There were a few extras like kids' rides, a small petting zoo, and bracelet making or cookie decorating rooms. Those all require additional tickets. Santa was set up in a tented area, and there were a couple of photo stations, but that was pretty much it. On a positive note, I was able to bring my dog into the plaza but overall, the event left a lot to be desired.

This year, I surprised our little family of 5 (2 humans, 3 dogs) with tickets to The Peppermint Parkway... only to find I was the one in for the biggest surprise. As advertised online, $40.00 USD gets you and 3 other humans in one vehicle entry into both the Peppermint Plaza and Parkway. The plaza is open from 5-10 pm, while the parkway runs from 6-9 pm. If you can't make your scheduled date and time, you can easily reschedule online. PARKWAY: The elves that work here were helpful and nice, even through the cold! The elves directed everyone to their proper lanes, scanned tickets efficiently and even gave our pups treats. While we waited to enter the parkway, Christmas movies played via projections nearby and The Grinch came by for a visit. Unfortunately, the wait time was longer than the actual drive-thru displays, and not worth the visit. There aren't enough lights on display and since there are 2 lanes (the fast pass and standard lanes), your vision gets obscured by cars in the next lane.

I would first like to say, my toddler loved it. Plenty of stuff for kids and a really nice way to spend an evening with them. The cost of just going isn't super prohibitive either. You get a lap through the lights and access to the food and activity area. But the cost of everything once you get in there is crazy. $20 for a sleeve of popcorn and a lemonade. There are lots of rides and animatronics playing Xmas music which is nice though. We did the add on for the track lap which was definitely the highlight. Halfway through the lights they divert you to the COTA track (where the F1 race happens) and you get to drive the track. Only complaint is they have a pace car keeping you under 25-30mph. Woulda been a lot more fun even at 50mph. Overall a nice night for the family, just could be a little cheaper once you get in. We actually woulda have bought more stuff if it was cheaper.

Beautiful light display! We thoroughly enjoyed it! Pros: Fun for young & old. Nice variety of displays, appropriate music, and good length. Cons: wait time. They should space ticket times better. I picked an off peak time as recommended, but still waited in line gridlock for over an hour. Access to the Peppermint Plaza not easy for mobility impaired persons. (Parking logistics, etc.) We had fun, but I would have been hating life if I was stuck in a car with a bunch of little kids for an hour of just sitting. There were clips of old movies being shown, but no sound. They should consider having a radio station you can tune into for sound. Overall a good experience when you get to the light part. The rest seemed overpriced.

From the moment you walk in, there's a lively vibe with music, lights, and crowds that make it feel like a full-on festival. The entry fee is pretty affordable, which makes it easy to justify going--but be prepared for the parking situation. Parking was $30, which felt a bit steep and is something to factor into your overall cost. Where FoodieLand really shines is the variety of food. There's a huge selection of trendy and unique options--from Korean corn dogs and Bone Marrow to massive fried squid, Sushi Pizza and creative desserts. It's a great place if you like trying a little bit of everything or sharing bites with your group. That said, the popularity does come with a downside: long lines. Some of the most popular vendors had pretty long waits, especially during peak hours, so patience is definitely needed (or plan to go earlier if you can). Overall, FoodieLand is a great experience for the atmosphere and food variety, just be ready for crowds, lines, and higher parking costs.

I really wanted to love FoodieLand, especially with all the hype I'd heard going in, but…read moreunfortunately, my first experience was pretty disappointing. Across most of the vendors I tried, the food just didn't match the price point. Many stalls were charging premium prices, but the quality didn't reflect it. Portions were often inconsistent, and in some cases, there was more fat than actual meat. On top of that, wait times were long, which might've been understandable if the food came out fresh--but instead, a lot of it tasted like it had been prepared in bulk and left sitting. The result? Dry, overcooked dishes that lacked the flavor you'd expect at a festival like this. After a while, it honestly started to feel like I could've gone to a regular food court and gotten better quality for a fraction of the price. That's not what you hope for when you're attending something that's supposed to highlight great food and unique vendors. To be fair, there were a couple of standout stalls that were genuinely delicious, but they were few and far between, maybe 2% of what I tried. If I had one suggestion for the future, it would be for organizers to focus more on quality over quantity. Smaller portion options would also make a huge difference. For example, instead of committing to a $25 plate of 8 wings, it would be great to have the option to try one or two wings at a lower price. That way, people can try more vendors without spending a fortune. Overall, I left feeling underwhelmed and wishing the experience had lived up to its reputation. I'm hopeful for next year being an improvement.

I went twice (with family, but no children) on a Friday and Saturday night after 9 pm, walked around looking at lights, enjoying the music and drinking hot chocolate. There was a good variety of beer available and treats which were expensive but good quality. Loved the singing trees. Didn't try the ice skating rink but it looked fun, I forgot my gloves and didn't want to scratch my hands if I fell. The downside was the high price of admission, the Trail of Lights is much closer and cheaper. It would be nice if the tower tour was free or lower priced and open also. I saw disappointed visitors turn around after searching for it and finding it costed money and/or it was closed. And warming stations out of the wind would be a good idea too. Parking was free and easy to get in and out of and there were shuttles waiting each time to promptly take us to the entrance. I did not visit the carnival section. Next time I will probably come on a warm night and get the carnival wristband.

So the wait was not too long. The lights were pretty impressive. To see cota transformed into an amusement park was quite interesting as we y come here either to watch a race or gokarting. The light show was one of the highlight for some of our friends and children and also taking pictures with some of their favorite Disney characters! The 9$ ride wristband was totally worth it as the kids went on rides over and over again. No long waits and they were all well maintained and open! Started sprinkling, then slowly turned to rain. By the time it was lightly raining, I had seen everything. Took a ton of pictures. Grabbed some food and just enjoyed everyone walking around with either a huge turkey leg, big baby bottles, buckets of food, 3 foot long meat on skewers. It was pretty insane to watch. The whole place was mapped out really well. Easy flow walking pattern. Water stations and bathrooms marked with huge flags. Lots of tables and chair for seating while you eat. Also an area of tables and chairs that was covered and also with a big DJ stage. Parking was easy. They charged $15.00 to park. There was a tram that would pick you up. I actually walked in, but took the tram back to my car. Leaving was confusing. You're just following cones out. So I followed the cones, and I was only able to make a right turn, whereas I came in, I should have made a left. But ok, let's just follow where the cones tell me to go. Next thing I know I'm only able to go into another parking lot. And this lot charged $30.00 so I lucked out being at the other lot, but okay, so here I am in another lot when I'm trying to drive out of here. I ran over a cone and made my own lane. Finally I exited out. All in all, security was nice when I came in. I had a small clear bag and my empty Yeti. I never filled my Yeti with the water they provided. If I was in dire need of water I would have gotten water. But I was good and it definitely wasn't hot. I would do this again. Some better planning in my part. Head phones. Would have liked to have listened to my own music and been in my own world. Small to go containers with leak proof lids. The food was large portions. So once you have 1 meal, you're kind of full to try other things. Hopefully I know the next time this happens, and I'll be better prepared. Really fun and a cool experience.

The day itself was absolutely perfect, great weather and an exciting atmosphere. Drinks were a bit pricey (about $18 for a margarita), but honestly, that's pretty typical for an event like this. What really stood out was the staff, everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly and helpful, which made the whole experience even better. I can't speak to the qualities of COTA as an auto racing venue (I have zero interest in that), but…read morelast night I went to the B-52's/Devo/Lene Lovich concert at the amphitheater and although the bands were great, this venue is a horrible place to see a show. Even under ideal conditions, COTA is a huge place and getting from the parking lot to the show is a genuine hassle. There were thunderstorms and lightning flashes in the early part of the evening, which delayed the show for two hours, and Lene Lovich's set ended up being cut -- I know nobody can control the weather, but the staff on the ground wasn't helpful at all with providing updates on the show's status. Would it be canceled? Should we wait? We rode a tram bus from the parking lot to just outside the venue, and waited and waited for the gates to open. Nobody was telling the crowd anything. It was chaos. At one point we were herded down a hill into a parking garage to escape the rain (it was a garage, but nobody there was rockin', though cars filled with people bailing on the show and leaving were constantly coming through). I resorted to the B-52's Instagram account to get updates on the situation. Finally, at some point after 8 p.m. the gates opened, we entered the venue, wiped down our seats, and waited. After the show, we walked to the tram station (it was close to midnight by then) and waited, and waited for a tram to take us back to Lot F. There was some sort of "issue." People had been waiting up to 40 minutes for a tram. Nobody from the staff came over to tell us anything. We finally gave up and hoofed it over half a mile to our car. The COTA staff appear to be extremely disorganized and have very little idea how to keep a crowd of some 5,000 people informed about what's going on. They seem more interested in extracting money from people's wallets (besides the extortionate ticket prices, it's the land of $14 beers, $9 ice cream sandwiches, $45 T-shirts, etc. -- COTA makes airport shops seem like a bargain) than taking care of their customers. They don't seem to care about their patrons' welfare at all. I will not be returning to this venue under any circumstances.

The first part of my review is about the show. It was incredible! I've seen Willie a few times but never for the 4th of July picnic so this was definitely a bucket list item. Each band gave a stellar performance. I was blown away! Now for the next part of my review. The part where I talk about the venue itself. Let me tell you I was so worried because I read so many horror stories online. The gates were to open at three but got delayed about thirty minutes because of rain. My pet peeve is that it wasn't updated on the website. Minor issue. We took an Uber there and back. Upon arrival, our driver was confused (even though there were cones and guides) but we made it through without a hitch. We arrived at 2:20 which would have been perfect timing if not for the rain. We managed to find a dry spot to sit and chat with other folks. Once the gates opened we got through smoothly and quickly. Getting there when we did was actually perfect timing because as we went through the gates we could see the entry line stretching for at least 1/4 mile. We were able to get food and drinks straight away because we were one of the first people in. Bathroom, no lines. Fast forward a couple of hours and bathroom lines, food lines, and drink lines were stretched for what seemed an eternity. It was a big show, sold out. Lots and lots of people, lines are going to happen. I would just suggest getting food and drinks immediately to avoid the crazy lines or maybe throw some snack bars in your bag. All in all we had a good experience.

Hey, Hot Chocolate 15K, welcome to Austin!! Glad you're here and hope you'll come back next year…read more Me and my running buddy/BFF had a blast at this event and plan to make it an annual affair if we can. The hills on this course kicked my butt, but it was exciting to breeze down that final peak into the finish line at a respectable pace even as exhausted as I felt. Results posted here: http://results.chronotrack.com/event/results/event/event-9009?lc=en I'm fairly new to running, having only completed 2 previous 10Ks (our annual Austin institution, the Cap10K) and several low intensity charity 5Ks (all on paved streets in downtown Austin), so that's where my comparisons to this (first of many, I hope) Hot Chocolate race are made. My requests for next year are pretty well summed up in Jeanette's and Lauren's reviews, but here's a brief recap: The good (to keep): -- well organized, from registration to packet pickup to race day -- free, close in parking at the event; we were able to park quickly and walk right over to the starting chute with no hassle -- super friendly volunteers (wearing cool volunteer promo baseball t-shirts) -- great crowd management strategy with few bottle necks on race day -- neat runner premiums included with registration fee (drawstring backpack, tech shirt, sunglasses, finisher's goodie cup o'chocolate stuffs) -- awesome medal shaped like a chocolate bar for 10K finishers -- family-friendly options like the 1K fun run and 5k short course. My kid was even given a goodie cup of his own, just for being with me when I picked up mine. -- cool water misters at 2 or 3 points along the 10K course, which we really needed (see water report below) -- cold water-soaked towel & iced bottled waters at the finish line -- easy gear check system with tags tied to your racer bib # -- chipped bib racer time tracking by Chronotrack (with options to text message start, split, and finish times to up to 3 numbers to let your friends/family have some idea where you are in the course) -- high resolution photos emailed after the race, included with registration (unlike most other races where you have to order & pay for these separately) The bad (to improve): -- the heat! It was freakin' boiling hot & humid out there, even at 9am. Can we move this thing to a more comfortable date, OR start much earlier in the day, OR have it at night? This is Texas, so just assume that heat stroke is a real concern any time of year except maybe November through March (and even then, it could be pretty hot). Other reviewers are correct when they suggest that the 10K event begin before the other shorter events (which would help with the heat problem if it's going to be a day race). -- the rocks! About 1/4 of the 10K course was on big (2-3 inches wide) white caliche rock surface through the COTA unfinished parking areas. This is dangerous, especially to runners not wearing shoes with hard soles for rough terrain, but even in the best shoes, risks of ankle injury & wipe-outs are real. Most runners I heard talking about it were expecting to be on pavement, so next year, please communicate well about the type of terrain and appropriate footwear. Even better would be to plan out a different course that stays on pavement or at least plain dirt. When possible, I stuck to the edges of the trail when we had to go through the rocks. Dodging piles of wild animal poop added another level of difficulty. -- water stops on the 10K course: too few. Talk to some people who participate in or manage the Cap10K (held in April when it's not nearly as hot) and find out how they manage the water. Austinites don't usually need to bring water to events like this because it's available about every 1-2 kms. For this race, we had 1 water stop during the first 3.5 miles -- insane! I could hear lots of runners in my pace group complaining, "Where in the heck is the water?" We eventually got to 3 more water stops clustered closer to the end of the course, but there should have been more up front. I know next year, I'll plan to carry my own hydration just in case. -- junk food overload. I love chocolate as much as any red blooded woman, but I think many people paying to participate in a fitness-oriented activity are not going to be interested in a bowl full of sugar at 9am (even after running 6 miles). Like Lauren, we ate the bananas, kept the finisher's bowl, and tossed the rest -- such a waste of food! I like the idea of offering an empty bowl, or maybe one that just has a wrapped dark chocolate bar with it. Maybe frozen bananas on a stick dipped in chocolate? -- the fees. My experience is limited to mostly 5Ks for charity (as a mentioned above), but the $64 registration for this event seemed pretty pricey to me and other runners I heard talking about it. Organizers might consider offering an option to register to run without the swag bag and bring down the cost a bit. Even with all those criticisms, I'd definitely go again next time. See ya in 2015!

There are few things I'm willing to get up at 5:30am for, and the Hot Chocolate 15k is one of 'em…read more It was held out at the Circuit of the Americas track, which I'd not been to previously - so it was fun to be out there at daybreak to check it out. We opted for the 5k, which kicked off at 7:50 on a paved, hilly route that mostly circled the track. There was some sort of motorcycle event going on simultaneously on the track - which kept things lively and loud. We made great time, and were rewarded afterwards with ice cold water, bananas, and individual chocolate fondues. Yeah, that's right - chocolate sunrise. What a way to start the day. Ok, so on second thought - maybe it was the chocolate that got me up this early! Never the less, I got my burn on and got my sweet fix all before 9am. Happy Saturday!

My friend and I came here Thursday night the first night of the Xgames. We scored free tickets to…read morethe motocross and harley flat track racing. When we arrived we had to get on a shuttle bus that trucked us a few miles to the tracks. It was a little confusing since I thought everything was at Circuit of the America. When we got to the tracks it was a little confusing. It appears we didn't need to print out our tickets online before coming here. No tickets were collected or checked and the fans could sit anywhere within in the stands. Well unless you were VIP located within the rope area in the top rows. None of the bleachers had shade, in either the music venue, or the grandstands overlooking competition. Food vendors were kind of lackluster as well, in my opinion. In a town that is known for its culinary inspirations and plethora of food trucks, you'd think you could have better options than an $8 grilled cheese. Another subtracted star for your music- Nicki Minaj, really?!? That's not all that conducive to the this sport or crowd. Kudos for Metallica, though. Plus, why put the main stage a literal mile walk away from the competitive field?? There was so much open area passed on that long, pointless walk. Also, the timing of the daytime musical acts was very poor- why not schedule acts to perform during competitive breaks, not during actual completion; you're forced to make a choice. You did do a good job with ample portos, and having a fair amount of actual pottys available. Also with water stations. You offered plenty of meet-n-greets with athletes, which was great for attendees. There was also a good amount of sponsors and swag for people to enjoy. So, it wasn't all bad.
