Pepper Lunch is a cool concept and found inside a mini food court building in Riverton. Your order at the kiosk and then (quickly) your food is brought out to you. My son and I shared an order of miso soup and teriyaki beef. The beef came out on a hot skillet with veggies. I didn't expect the veggies to be cold, but after stirring them around the dish, they cooked and heated up. I think that's the point. The folks working were very friendly and happy to clean up our dishes when we finished our meal. I like the idea of unique food served in fun ways, so this was a win for me. Been waiting to try pepper Linch for months! It was easy to order at the kiosk! They have utensils napkins plates and water at the counter! Our food came out quickly and we grabbed a selection of sauces near the kiosk. The seating area was perfect for our group of 6 and a baby ! Tables were a bit small but we got our dishes on 3 tables and comfortable chairs! So good to get your food really hot ! We all loved our dishes and really liked our side order of onion rings and Karaage chicken ! Jumbo beef pepper w/ egg was huge - beef sizzling curry rice was perfect- two meat sizzling curry rice was really good - we really enjoyed the sweet soy sauce they had to add to our beef Very good. Kim Chee was excellent! This being our 1st visit we had a few questions and the employees there were very helpful. We'll be back to try more of their menu ! This is a fun place. I was super excited to try it so I brought a couple of friends so I could get more sizzle. You order at the kiosk and pay at the kiosk, then they bring the food and drinks to your table. The people working there were very nice. They have a few complementary sauces at the table. The seating area is nice and open and has a good view of part of the plaza. We ordered a few drinks. They have some good flavors that are unusual and refreshing. We ordered the meal with two hamburger patties. It comes with curry sauce. When you pour in the sauce it gives you a lot of sizzle. The food was delicious but I think next time I will get the steak because it looked incredible. I also tried the chicken Karaage. I liked all the flavors and I think I would order the chicken again. The menu has a lot to offer and I am intrigued with the pastas. I will definitely be back in the future. Just a quick tip, I intentionally wore a shirt that was a darker color so that I didn't have to worry about the sizzling spattering my shirt. I am glad that I had the foresight but if you wear a lighter color, you will just have to sit back and wait a moment for the sizzle to stop but in my opinion, it is well worth it. We are rarely in the Riverton area but had heard about this place so after an exhausting visit to IKEA, we decided to try Pepper Lunch. The ambiance is that of a mall food court minus the mall. It is nice and comfortable enough. You order at a kiosk and they bring the food to your table. A concept that is more and more common these days that I have very mixed feelings about. Let's get my gripes out of the way first. It is expensive. Drinks are overpriced at 3.50 - 3.75 for a fountain or bottled drink. This seems to be the new norm and I absolutely refuse to buy in. I will be one of those weirdos that carries around a water bottle everywhere I go before I pay that much for soda. Also, they have Pepsi products instead of Coke. Ugh. Let's move on to the food. The options are a little overwhelming and could benefit from a bit more explanation and recommendations. The kiosk system is not my fave for this type of place for those reasons. I also don't love that they still want a full 20% tip for a not full service place. I will say that the service we did receive was fast and friendly. They do offer free refills on the expensive soda but you can't get it yourself. I ended up going with the hamburger and beef curry. The food came out very fast but was so hot I did have to wait a good 10 minutes before I could actually dig in without getting a 2nd degree burn in my mouth. The sizzling platter, while a fun concept does splatter hot liquid if you get too close so be careful. The hamburg steak was okay, nothing to write home about. The beef was quite good as was the onion. I just wished there was more of it. The curry sauce was tasty but I wished it was spicier. I really would have loved to add on some cheese and kimchi to this dish but add ons are another 2.00 each and it just didn't seem worth it on top of the already high cost. The food was fresh, good quality and reasonably tasty. I was really excited to try this place but I wasn't exactly blown away. If I'm in the area again, I may give it another shot and try something different but it's not something I'd go out of my way to get on the reg. read more

I really wanted to like this spot, really cool concept, but it fell flat for me. It's in a little shares space kind of like a food court. I got the pepper beef and it was bland, I constantly added the seasoning provided and maybe that's the point is you season it to taste. Cool presentation. I've never been to this part of town and I love the Riverton mall here. It's energetic and vibrant with lots of other cool stores and restaurants. The food is good (maybe a tad bit too hot - hot as in temperature) but I'm not sure if it was worth the money. I ordered the beef jumbo and my husband ordered the chicken. Both plates came out super fast and sizzling hot. We burned our mouths a couple times trying to eat our food. The food tasted good but for $19 it was very not worth it. They only put a tiny amount of meat on our plates, and even when I ordered jumbo plate it was not enough. I can go to Asian market and get 3 boxes of sliced beef with that price and it'll taste the same searing the meat on a pan. Good experience but not going back for that price point. read more

This place has a cool idea--hot plates that cook your food right in front of you! My wife and I both got rice dishes, and they were so yummy and had a little bit of black pepper in them. The ordering was easy, and we got our food right away. There is ample seating now since there are only 2 restaurants in the space that used to have 4. (The Coffee shop and the chicken shop are not there anymore. Pepper Lunch took over the Ramen shop.) We can't wait to go back and try the noodle dishes and other things on the menu. read more

So glad we have a Pepper Lunch here now. Riverton of all places - credit to Mountain View Village whose brought a lot of businesses lately. First time I tried Pepper Lunch was in LV Chinatown. The food is good as expected. It is self serve to place your order and they bring the food out to you. My only gripe is the Beef pepper rice I ordered came with very little meat. I remember getting a lot more in the LV location. Hopefully management can make these changes. I didn't feel that the $15 price justifies the amount of meat that came with the food. On a positive, the staff were really friendly and helpful. I do recommend the Chicken karaage curry. Overall it may be worth it to try this place if you like food on a sizzling platter. read more

The place itself is cute, with a couple of other food spots inside, and it seemed family-friendly. As for the food: the salmon and shrimp were good, but the beef and chicken weren't for me. The beef tasted like the thin slices you'd get at a hot pot (which I personally can't stand). If you like hot pot, you might actually enjoy it--but I didn't. I moved from San Francisco to Utah about three years ago, and one of the things I've missed the most is the food--especially the unique spots you can find in the Bay Area. So when I heard that Pepper Lunch opened here, I had to check it out and see if it lived up to the one I loved in Milpitas, California. Spoiler alert: it absolutely does! My favorite is the Beef Pepper Lunch--served sizzling hot in a cast iron bowl, with sweet corn, tender beef, and that amazing signature sauce that soaks into the rice as it cooks right in front of you. It's simple, comforting, and packed with flavor. I loved it so much, I went for the JUMBO version... and yes, I finished every bite (no shame, just joy ). The service was just as warm as the food. I was greeted kindly by the staff, and when I mentioned I'd been to the Milpitas location, they shared how this Utah spot is essentially the same at heart--just with different ownership. It made the experience feel even more connected and welcoming. If I had one small wish, it's that they had their own standalone restaurant rather than being tucked into a food court. The food and experience deserve a spotlight of their own! I'm beyond happy to have Pepper Lunch here in Utah--and even better, it's close to where I live! I'll definitely be back (probably often). We were excited to see a Pepper Lunch open in Utah, we frequently visited the restaurant in Milpitas, CA and loved the meals. We also ate at the Irvine, CA location. Our expectations were already set from our past experiences Riverton missed for us, but if you have never been you might like what is offered. Riverton's food did not taste right. We ordered three sizzling beef plates and were served three plates which the meal was over seasoned with pepper. Yeah I know "pepper lunch" but we have been many times.... In Milpitas we always were asked about our meal, yet nobody could be bothered to even check with us in Riverton, hence my review on Yelp. Milpitas I think was the first USA restaurant for the chain coming over from Japan. Irvine was not as good as Milpitas (but the meal tasted right) and Riverton was a lot less than Irvine. Pepper Lunch is expanding, but the chain has lost what made the restaurant likable- quality of the meal, portion size, taste, friendliness.... In Milpitas there was always a line of people waiting for a table The portions and quality of the meal was much better in the past. Maybe it's inflation. Riverton only shares the name of a good restaurant and will likely leave you with the sense you just ate at an expensive fast food restaurant. read more
