We were traveling from Virginia to Texas and unfortunately our car over heated while we were passing thru Slidell, LA. We were able to get the car towed to PepBoys. They were amazing. Jarod and Terrance were Extremely kind and courteous. Jarod was able to locate a new radiator for my Aunts Lexus, while Terrrance worked on getting the old one off the car. No easy task. They then were able to put in the new one, fill it with coolant and make sure everything was secured and no air in the radiator that could cause problems down the road. Their Manager, Jordan, jumped in to help also. These three younge men made sure we would have no other problems on the remaining 5+hr of our trip. We truly felt blessed to have found them available on Sunday, and that they had the expertise and knowledge to diagnose, secure and replace the broken radiator. They truly were a God send! read more

I went in for a battery test and had my battery replaced. I asked for a maintenance free battery. They sold me an interstate premium battery for $280. I took a look under my hood the other day and noticed that they gave me an interstate silver battery for $215 battery, which is not maintenance free. Very sneaky. This specific store has gone in the toilet with their new manager "Dusty;" I have watched many managers come and go in the past year and now it's rock bottom time. I've purchased three sets of tires for three different vehicles. Mechanics may not get alignment/balancing correct the first time but we've worked together to get it corrected. Yesterday had to have my car towed there for a fourth flat tire on what is now known to be a defective front tire they kept trying to get to hold air instead of just replacing. I called the manager, Dusty a day ahead to let her know my car would be towed there first thing yesterday morning. When I arrived I was told "she would try to work me in;" "Jason (best mechanic there) would not be in until 10:30" and then could not handle the situation when another mechanic who worked on my car stepped into my safe space (customer service counter) from outside and escalated the situation and did not back down to management and go back to his work space which forced me to make a 911 keep the peace call and then I had to get and pay for another tow to Pep Boy's Metairie store where Gerard (old Slidell store manager) had moved to. This manager was willing and ready to replace my defective and warrantied tire while Slidell store manager Dusty left me hanging in the rain with a flat tire and didn't address my service issue except to ban me from the store for wanting what I paid for. Do yourself a favor - look at the poor reviews, believe them, and DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! We took our van in due to a small leak in one of the rear tires and my husband asked them to take a look at the engine because it smelled like it may be burning oil.... 3 weeks and almost $3000 later - we have the van back. They cracked the rear cylinder cover and didn't own it and we paid in time and money then had to wait for them to slowly put it back together. This last time was the last straw for me, i go here because they do free tire rotation with oil change. Well, i decided to mark my tires to see that they actually rotated my tires. Did they? NO! And when i called in the morning to make an appointment the girl tells me you don't need to, it will be quick. I drop my car off at 12:30, it wasn't finished until 5:30. Not to mention the service is absolutely horrible, every time i go there i stand in line for at least 30 min before being helped. The last time i came here they didn't even do what i asked them to do, and i had to leave my car for them to do it the next day and it still took them until closing to do a simple tire fix that should've been done the day before! I took my vehicle to Pep Boys only because the warranty company suggested this shop. After my experience, I warn you not to take your bicycle to this place for any repairs. My vehicle was there only to replace the a/c. Once they found out I had a warranty on the vehicle, they informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced. When the warranty company informed Pep Boys that the transmission would not be covered, the transmission no longer needed to be replaced. When I dropped off the vehicle to Pep Boys, my lights and horn was working. When I picked up my vehicle, the lights and horn was not working. I took it back to Pep Boys and they informed me that my fuse box needed to be replaced and they would not accept any of the responsibility for my lights and horn not working. Pep Boys quoted me $2000 to replace a fuse box. The fuse box cost me $450 which included being programmed. It took me 30 minutes to remove and replace the fuse box and Pep Boys wanted to charge $2000. They are a bunch of crooks, so you have been warned. read more

They take care of your car and are very thorough. The selection for SUV batteries isn't that large so you're going to have to buy the expensive one. I was on vacation and broke down on the I-10 bridge leaving Slidell. I was towed back to this Pepboys with the hopes they could look at my vehicle to see why it died. Unfortunately, they were very busy and were not sure if they were going to be able to look at it. After a few hours of killing time at Walmart, I went back and they still had not freed up to look at it. Having some vehicle knowledge, I started poking around the engine and found the timing belt was ripped in half. I asked the parts manager if he had an issue letting me start tearing down the engine in the parking lot and said he did not. I started buying tools and parts as I needed them and even rented a harmonic balancer puller. The parts manager here was very helpful and would allow me to try the tools before I bought them to make sure they were what I needed. As it was getting late, they checked on me to make sure i didn't need anything else on this late Sunday evening before they closed. Unfortunately, about a half hour later, I realized I needed a vice to compress the belt tensioner in order to start putting everything back together. I decided to get a hotel room across the street and go back in the morning when they opened. Once they opened, the service department person Stephanie, allowed me to use the vice in the shop in order to finish my project. While I did not use the service department to service my vehicle here, this Pepboys was accommodating to my issue and allowed me to work on my own car in their parking lot when they didn't have to. I was also assisted a few times by the service department with an impact wrench and they even printed out the manual for the job I was doing to help me get everything correct. read more

Needed some items for my two cars, and spoke with a gentleman named Matt. He was extremely helpful, and offered to install my windshield wipers for free. Unfortunately was pressed for time, and he even offered for me to come back later and he would be glad to do it then. Have been to several auto-parts stores, and Matt was by far the most knowledgeable. This place is a waste of your time. They obviously have more business than they are willing to employ people to cover and won't be able to ever work on anything ever in a timely manner even if you are the first person in the door when they unlock it. Do yourself a favor and find one of the many other fine auto shops who actually want the business. If you find yourself having bought road hazard on tires here, good luck getting it honored since rarely do they have enough people at their shop to do work. The patient lady at the counter is doing the best she can with that situation, but the counter area for service is such a cramped spot that you have no idea who is waiting where for anything. I went in to this pep boy location to replace my brake pads and they told me I had to replace my calabar as well they said they will find the part and order it but after a week of waiting for that to happen I got fed up and just found the part myself. I waited 5 more days for it in the mail, paid $800 for it, come to find out my calabar was fine and they needed the calabar bracket now instead. So I wasted over a week looking for a part I didn't even need and wasted $800 on it because I can't return it, I also wasted money on a rental car for 2 weeks. This location should be shut down and I'm furious about the money wasted dealing with this unprofessional establishment. read more

I will give two stars for effort. My appointment was scheduled for 4pm. I was called at 2:30 saying my tires were delayed and wouldn't come in until 6:30 - so I was rescheduled for 6:30. Fair enough. Once I got here, the guy behind the service counter complained the whole time about how he wasn't going to get home until after hours. I'm starting to wonder why we bother to use them. This is the second Pep Boys we've had a problem with. My husband brought the car in yesterday morning as soon as it opened because something was making a god awful squeaking noise. They said they had a few cars ahead of ours. Ok fine. Miss the first day of work (yep, we have to work on weekends sometimes). Get a phone call at SEVEN PM. They won't be finishing the car today. Annoyed but ok. Now it's 11:30 am the next day and it's still not complete. Oh boy, miss the second day of work. We NEED this car to get to work. There is no commuter train, and the jobs are in New Orleans. We can't afford to rent a vehicle while they take their sweet time fixing it. If they had just said "I don't know when we will get to it but we're really busy and won't have any availability today, and probably not tomorrow either", we'd have gone elsewhere or waited until Monday (which is the first day off) so it wouldn't have caused us a problem with the amount of money brought home to pay our bills. I'm going to email their head office too. Given how head office reacted with the last Pep Boys problem we had where we had to wait four days before it was fixed, I don't think they will be happy, do you? OK, so they gave us a discount for the wait, and removed something they charged us for. And their service manager called me too. So that's good. I just hope we don't have to go through this again. I've increased my stars since they gave us a discount and at least attempted to make it right. Suggestion for you guys at Pep Boys... if someone says they need it to go to work immediately, it needs to be a priority. If others don't need it until Monday and you have two days to fix it, then it can wait until the priority is done. I don't mind paying for services, but I do mind missing work. read more

Hi, we're having a problem here. I have a friend whose vehicle is currently at the PepBoys location in Slidell. So far she has paid over a thousand dollars for them to fix her vehicle. Every time she gets the vehicle back, something else is wrong with it, that was not wrong when she brought it in. This sounds like a classic scam, where a mechanic damages something else so that the customer will have to bring the vehicle back to fix and pay more money. They are now refusing to return her phone calls. Please advise immediately. read more

Well, let's start with the positives. The tires I bought were about $200 cheaper than anywhere else. That's about it. I ordered the tires on a Friday morning and told the employee I was coming in at 8am Saturday to have them installed. I got a call at 7:55 (as I'm on my way) that only 3 have come in. It should be noted I have a SUV, not a tricycle. When I got there I was told they just found the 4th tire (it was shipped separately for some unknown reason). I was told it should take about an hour to put the tires on. They failed to mention it would take an hour before they even pulled my car into the shop. Because of this I got to spend two hours in a waiting area that was akin to a town that was carpet bombed during WW II. Part of the ceiling was falling down and the place hadn't been swept or cleaned in a while (as evidenced by the dead bugs on the floor). I set an appointment and purchased tires but confirmed the price with the manager (brian) before hanging up. I arrived at my appointment time and was told to come back in an hour. I did, and was almost asked to come back again but was then accommodated. After the tires were installed I was given an invoice and the price was much higher. I asked about the difference but was told "I was given discounts but the price must have gone up". I asked to speak with a manager but you guessed it none were available. I called to issue a complaint through Pep Boys (was given a complaint number) and was told a district manager would get back to me. I never heard back from anyone at Pep Boys. I called back to follow up on the complaint and was told by the rep that the manager (brian) had told them that I was given discounts. He did not tell them that he had confirmed the price with me a day earlier. I also informed them that I could have purchased the exact tire on Amazon (via pep boys there) for over $100 less than in store. You could have heard a pin drop. To date, still no response. Avoid this place at all costs because it will wind up costing you. read more

I don't know much about vehicles and must admit, I'm a little intimidated when it comes to speaking to someone for lack of my knowledge. I like that I was approached by someone instead of having to search for someone. When that associate wasn't sure how to install what I needed, they asked their manager, Matt, for assistance. To my surprise he was available and more than willing to help. He not only installed the freon but he also showed me how to do it myself for the future. First of all, I bought 4 new tires from this PepBoys, and they were the type that specifically said on the tires inside or outside. Well, they put them all inside out. I didn't realize it until I had my first rotation in NC and had to spend an additional $75 to have them balanced again because of the mistake. So, I sent a copy of the invoice stating this and wanting my money back. Well, this Sal guy calls me back stating that NC was wrong, it didn't matter if they were inside out, etc., overcharging me and said he would send me his rebuttal. Never happened, so at this point I didn't know who was screwing me. After researching, I found out it DID matter and additional wear and tear on my tires was inevitable. So, while in LA I took my car in for a rotation and oil change which they did not charge me because of their finally admitted error. So, I get half way home and the tire light goes on, no flat tires, and I called them and asked why this happened. Get this....their reply was you must have caught a nail. No, I did not. No flat tire. This was my second stop for my car issue, which I believed was a failing battery. Business number one could not check the battery for over two hours and gave me the warning that it could be a laundry list of other things. Went across the street to Pep Boys, within 5 minutes of walking in the door there was a battery checker hooked up to my car, employee, Matt, cleaned off the battery and the car started. Matt went ahead and checked the alternator as well, which was working fine. Thinking it was just a dirty battery, and my car running, I was prepared to leave. Matt said; let's just shut it off again to make sure that takes care of it. Sure enough, the car did not start. Matt took the battery out of the car and into the store, hooked it up to the battery check thing again, and discovered that the battery was indeed, no good. I purchased the recommended battery and was on my way. Entire time spent at Pep Boys was under 40 minutes. I was in and out of there with a replaced battery before the folks at the other store would have even begun to look at my car. Absolute pleasure doing business at Pep Boys! read more
