I called requesting an appointment for a wheel alignment and was told to come in and they would do it right away. When I arrived they took my keys and told me to have a seat. 1 hour later I asked when they expected to be done and I was told that they had a big camper van on the rack but that would be off the rack soon. The excuses continued and they finally did the job after 4 hours. I do not recommend this place as they don't seem to have a grip on how to run a business. They were good at trying to upsell though. While I was there a man that was in for inspection that he needed to buy $60 wiper blades. When I got back to work Pep Boys employee who checked me in and took all my information states "we can't do the inspection. We don't have any inspection stickers. They are on back order." Now why would he make an appointment for me? Why would he sit there and take all my information and then not do the work? Why can't they do the work and have me come back for the sticker? Why would they not put the next months sticker on there? When he wouldn't do any of the above I left work yet again to get my keys and he acted like I was the problem. I took an opportunity to visit this establishment for what should be a very simple item to deal with, to be honest - it was against my better judgement but was having a hard time locating someone to address one of my tasks. I am a very consumer savvy and sales person. 1: No attention to detail, they tell you one thing on the phone and you show up to hear another. 2. Location looks like a garbage dump. 3. Customer waiting area is dirty and looks like a 1970's shop - leather and ripped seats. 4. Employees are sloppy, unintelligent and unable to give a logical answer to basic questions - appearance is also left to be desired. 5. They profess to do things but clearly from the front desk to the technicians, this is a JV operation and not one you want to bring your car to. Other then a very basic task - stay away. Fluff explanations with big prices, if you have to go to a "chain" store - pass on this one. So many independent tire shops and garages who know what they are doing and competitive - this is not about money, it is about logic. Money funnel only. I love my Subaru but replacing the light bulbs is always confusing and difficult. I attempted to replace the head light bulb myself but encountered too many tight corners and abrasions. I dropped by Pep Boys thinking they would have the replacement bulbs and a quick appt to replace it. They had neither the bulbs nor an appt open. However, a delightful person named Angel walked outside to my car and showed me how to untether the bulb and how to replace it. He even offered to do it himself if I purchased the bulb elsewhere and brought my car back. I replaced it myself but that was excellent customer service. Thank you, Angel! read more

I went in for a simple oil change, told them I would wait. It took 3.5 HOURS! During that time I watched the tech circle my car, talk to other techs, walk in with a small piece of something he found and ask a lot of questions. In the end I had my tires rotated (didn't know they were going to do that so that was on me) they did a cursory "inspection" in other words they eyeballed some stuff and eventually changed the oil. All the while I asked for updates and was told it was almost ready (clearly it wasn't because I saw through the window it was still on the lift with the tires off). It would have been very helpful had they topped off the fluids like washer fluid but no, that wasn't part of it. When they were finally finished they were ringing it up but when the manager heard how long it took he decided to comp the service. That was nice, but a small consolation considering I missed an appointment due to it taking so long. When I finally got my car back I had one more little surprise waiting for me. Buying wiper blades isn't difficult: go to the store, grab the book or use the little computer hanging in the aisle to find your exact replacement, boom. Here? Not so much. In the span of 10 minutes: - I tried to use the manufacturer book in the aisle, which doesn't have listings for cars made after 2019. There is no computer. - Cell service is spotty in the store, so it takes a minute to load PepBoys.com. When it loads, the site says the store has literally zero wiper blades in stock. I am standing in front of several dozen. - The person behind the counter (who for five minutes has been staring at me try to find wipers and has offered to help exactly zero times) seems confused by the fact that wipers are measured in inches but that there are different kinds (17A, 17OE, etc.) and that I'm having trouble figuring out which one is correct due to...an old book. "Well, what do you want from me?" Bestie, you're leaning on the keyboard for the store computer *that will tell you what to sell me.* When I tell him that PepBoys.com isn't working, he tells me that the auto parts store is...no longer a PepBoys...in a way that suggests I'm the idiot for reading the four signs that say PepBoys I passed on the way in. No further explanation is provided. And then, after asking me four times which car I drive and then immediately either ignoring or forgetting it, he tells me they don't stock the wipers for a Subaru Forester (which are, I believe, very similar to the wipers for a Honda CR-V, one of America's best-selling vehicles). I go over there to find they don't have a battery for my vehicle. I said to the guy behind the counter, 'your website said two were available'. "We don't have a website. We're AutoPlus now. Have been for three years now." I left. As I was driving away I saw at least three 'Pepboys' signs. Pepboys.com continues to claim 145 Shoemaker is a Pepboys. Last Fall I needed winter tires put on. The guy ahead of me kept saying he wasn't going to pay twice for a set of tires. Based what I now know. That guy must have purchased the tires at Pepboys.com And learned AutoPlus wasn't going to honor the purchase. Here's another one. Came in for an inspection, that was a mistake. They told me I needed brakes on my for door sedan, ok cool, so they told me brakes and inspection would be about 1,000. "What!? I asked. I've had brakes and rotors done for about 250." "No, he said brakes just brakes, no rotors always cost 750." I took the fail, drove to a mechanic I trusted in my old town, and good what brakes and inspection cost me about 170. Please go anywhere else if you can. He said it would take half an hour to 45 minutes ... well it turned out to be double that! Plus, nobody gave us any updates. I couldn't find the problem, no nails, etc. I walked in to Pep boys on Shoemaker Rd in the middle of the day without an appointment. They said they'd look at it and I figured they'd say it couldn't be fixed and sell me new tires and I'd be there for the rest of the day. I absolutely dread giving this Pepboys business. I keep giving them chances to redeem themselves but i'm almost always disappointed. They spend a lot of money marketing what the deals and sales are but in the end there's always some other charge they get you for that negates any kind of possible savings. The work is never done in a timely matter, even with simple and easy tasks. I brought in my flat tire that needed a repair, a service they said would be free for rewards members. Which it was, what they don't tell you that you still need to pay $15 for the tire balance. After dropping off the tired and being told it would take an hour to fix, I had to call the shop myself an hour and half later to check the status. They told me they were done with the repair and didn't have time to install the tire for me; I could take just the tire and install it myself or I could come back in the morning. I elected to come back since I wanted to get my tired rotated. I came back the following morning and waited another hour to have my tires rotated. I stood in the waiting room watching the mechanic walk around talk to random people who passed by and basically waste both our times. With the resources he had available, the tire rotation should have taken 15 mins max. Jump to a few days later when I actually have a chance to drive my car on the highway, my steering wheel is a shaky mess. I can only imagine that my tire did not even get balanced correctly. When I called the store to explain what happened, the person on the phone, "Bill" told me to bring in my vehicle so I may pay to have the rest of my tires balanced as well; because some how it's my fault. Well, I went into the local Pep Boys I thought I was just looking for a replacement turn signal. When I took in the burned out bulb I asked the nice young man for assistance. No problem. Not only did he educate me regarding the fact that I had a fog light bulb in my hand. HA. I explained to him that my turn signal blinks very fast and when i step on the breaks it just stops blinking. So he said, well lets go out so i can take a look at it. Now he didn't have to go out of his way. And he didn't know me from a can of paint. Shanon Derr went out of his way and I mean time, energy and dirty hands to help me trouble shoot this issue. He was able to come to a successful conclusion and now I will be safe on the road, not just for my self but for others as well. took my Mercedes in to have a tire looked at for a leak, the mechanic informed me that 4 of the 5 lug nuts were seized and would most likely have to be broken off. My husband questioned it, because if they broke the lug nuts/ a hub assembly would have been needed to be replaced Which would have ran as a $300 with 2 hours labor. We told them that we would take the Mercedes back to dealership we purchased it from and they had no issue removing tire at all!! In addition to all the automotive parts and supplies stuff, they also had accessories like cell phone holders, organizers, etc. After walking around a bit and not finding what I came in here for, I reached out to an employee just to verify they didn't have what I was looking for. It was a bit tough to find someone to help me, but I ultimately found a free cashier and asked him. The communication sucks, we did not have a choice but to go here due to location and every time I regret going! I prefer to drive out of my way to the collegeville location. We dropped car off Wednesday evening so Thursday they could look at it and call us with price , yes we even had a scheduled appointment. Thursday no one calls we call Friday morning and the tech who looked at it Thursday is off, go figure !!!I thought we made progress Friday when I said can you look get me rates and get it fixed, fairly quickly the return call about price happened. We will order part and car will be done Saturday. Awesome we return our rental car based on this conversation. Saturday no call we follow up ourselves again and then now the dealer doesn't deliver on the weekends, cool so now hopefully Monday and no rental car awesome !! Brought my car here for a state inspection simply because the location was convenient. They had it overnight and when I went to pick it up the next day I was quoted $1800 to get the car inspected and no work had been done. They even told me the rack and pinion needed replaced, which I have never had to do on any car ever - let alone one with under 100K on the clock. I took it to the local Audi shop instead (they're known for being inexpensive, right?) and got the car inspected the same day for $180. Your mileage may vary. read more

I had an appointment for an oil change. first I had to wait 10 minutes when I was just dropping my keys off while the attendant was scrolling to find a customer tires. The customer in front of me, seeing me waiting, eventually told the attendant after two other callers were placed on hold and also had to wait 10 minutes that the attendant should take the next customer. They told me the service would take an hour. And normally I thought that this type of thing should take only half an hour. My boyfriend and I went out for dinner and when we came back an hour later my car was still sitting outside. No one was by the service area so when I asked one of the other employees they told me "Oh yeah they like to hide sometimes." When I asked if my car was done they said no so I asked for my keys back because they obviously haven't even started. The attendant was very rude and inattentive. He didn't seem to care one bit. I scheduled an appointment with pep boys online to get a tire change and 2 new tires. I schedule the time. We left to take the car over and we get there and they said we didn't have an appointment. We were like okay maybe something got messed up. He said the tires would be here in about an hour or so I'll call you when they get here you can come back and we will put them on right away. So we waited till almost 4 and called they said the tires never came in and that they would be here the following day if we wanted to come in. So we said okay even though we were mad. So we called the following day and they said that the tires weren't in yet and that they would call when they are ready. We waited till about 5 pm and they never called. We spoke to Matt, so when we called he answered and said we didn't talk to him and he would see what was going on. Even though it was the same guy. He said the tires were there but we could drop the car off overnight and he may or may not get to them that day or the following. We ended up having to get someone else involved and the guy kept making excuses so we ended up going to Mavis and they were able to get the tires on and everything for CHEAPER and they were much nicer. I will not use there shop, I've seen them take advantage of customer not knowing what need or not need. I've seen and heard people complain about waiting for hours for simple repairs or services. I've tried there lifetime brakes which are junk (when thru two set in a year), each time replaced with no problem, but thankful I was doing the install not a paying a shop to keep doing it. Maybe it's just me but I think the customer service was outstanding. I came in there to purchase a rooftop cargo carrier for my car. The first person to help us (I forget his name) did a thorough check to ensure it was the correct carrier for my vehicle. After we determined it was, Shanon (the speed shop manager), stepped in and helped me get the right equipment to install it. He then went out to my car and installed the roof rack so we would be sure it worked properly. Shanon was extremely professional and friendly. He really wanted to make sure I got what I needed and went out of his way to ensure that. It's unfortunate other people didn't have the positive experience I did. I took my car here today, Sunday. I had a flat tire on the left rear driver's side and had the spare tire on. I understand this was a same day thing, but they took 6 hours to put a new tire on. When I went to pick it up, they had not put the hubcap back on, it was still sitting in my car where I told them it was. I asked them to please put the hubcap back on. They did, taking another 15 minutes. I don't trust them at all, and went to get gas and check the tire pressure. It was 26 psi when my tires need to be 32 psi, cold. They just took it off the shelf and slapped it on my car. Im very annoyed by their service and finally decided to write a review as this is my 3rd disappointing service by them. I will never return to the Pottstown Pep Boys - I'll never go to another Pep Boys anywhere! I purchased tires from them but when I drove away, my hubcap was making a lot of noise. I also had an oil change and they didn't reset the gauge or fill any fluids, as they are supposed to do. When I took it back to them and mentioned all these problems, they supposedly fixed everything and handed me back my keys without one word or an apology. When I drove away, my hubcap was makng the same noise so they didn't do anything about that and they didn't say anything about it being broken. I discovered that on my own.
