Today I had a negative interaction with the manager and associate that would advise to find services elsewhere. The tires were vibrating so I went in for a wheel balancing which is covered under the warranty at any pep boys location. Mr. Iqbal told me the wheel was vibrating vibrating because both my front rims were bent. He quoted me $ 2,560 to replace the rims. I rejected the rims and told him to do the rebalancing. They didn't do a diagnostic because all they did was check my oil & tell me it was low & couldn't check the pressure sensor because of it. My oil has NEVER been low after each oil change. They saved me from an expensive repair and told me I still had some life left on my brakes and to wait on my request to replace them. Really solid and professional. 4 hours for an oil change WITH an appointment. My daughter had an appointment for an oil change and was left to wait for 4 hours. They kept telling her it would be done soon and took care of other people before her. She asked to leave to get food, they said it's almost done so instead she sat and waited while people without appointments got their oil changes done. Maybe it's because she's a teenage girl driving a crappy car and not a regular, maybe they were understaffed, who knows because an explanation was never given. Honestly I cannot say enough good things about this place. I even drove all the way from Tinley Park because I was at first win over by Dominic the service manager. He went above and beyond to get me an estimate on the service I needed and was even nicer in person. Then I met Dee one of the service assistants and he was very kind and did not hassle me on the price. He even accepted an additional service coupon on had. Lastly there was Ethan, the mechanic. What a sweetheart. He let me show him an issue I had and fixed it right away with trying to skeem me out on money. I even tried to tip everyone and they wouldn't accept. Went in on 11/22/23 and purchased 4 new tires and an alignment from shop mamager, pretty simple. Long story short after 2 visits, unbelievably unprofessional customer service, excuses and inept technician , rudeness bordering on aggression and manager (Anthony) literally lying to my face (30 year dealership GM & Automotive Operations Consultant) I am left with a vehicle that is not aligned, and am being told they can't get it right??? 2 of 4 of new tires already wearing unevenly after 30 miles and them telling me oh well. This location is very unprofessional. I scheduled a 12 pm appointment for 11/26/23. I had the ability to check in after waiting in line for 15 minutes. Once I checked in with Kyle a store employee, he asked if I was, going to drop my car off or wait for it. I informed them that I would wait. He later mentioned that there were several other cars in front of me that were in to receive tire service as well. (total of 2) I had no problem with waiting. I later overheard Kyle mention to another customer who was there waiting for 2 hours that they didn't have the tires that he needed in stock. After hearing that, I got up and went to the front to speak to their technician to confirm if they had my tires in stock because I did not want to go through the same situation as the other customer did. Per the technician, my tire size was in stock, and he just serviced two other cars with the same size, so I had nothing to worry about. So, after waiting 2 1/2 hours, Kyle came to inform me that they only had 3 out of the 4 tires in stock and that he took my car down and brought it back to the front for me to leave. Kyle did not provide good service or even try to resolve the issue. He could have offered one of many options: * Could have offered to call another store to see if they have all 4 tires in stock * Could have offered to place the 3 that were in stock on my car and to come back when the 4th one was available * Provide some type of apology or compensation for future service, considering the amount of time that was lost Before any store checks a customer in, you should confirm that you all have inventory to service your customer so that valuable time is not lost and not blame the website for providing misleading information. I'm so happy that I did not prepay for my services because that would have been another 7-14 business days for my credit card to be refunded because of their negligence! This happened several months ago, before winter. I purchased some rims off of TireRack and Pep Boys is an authorized service location. After shipping them to this location and mounted on the vehicle, I noticed two of the rims were scratched. I alerted the team member at the service desk and he and his tech gave my car the once around. He understood there was a problem and requested that I talk with Art the service manager the next day. Art took care of me after reviewing the damage. It was determined that these came scratched in box before being put on the car based on the way the scratches were on the lip of the rim. Art knew he had to help me out and work this issue out with TireRack because it wasn't my problem. A lot of people would complain the tech should of seen this damage before mounting it on the car however this mistake could happen to anyone. One of two grouchy guys said unless I could leave it 5 hours, it wasn't going to get done. I've been there multiple times and their customer service skills suck each time. Got my tires replaced for 2005 Acura Mdx. A couple of days later TPMS warning indicator is lit. This is the first time it happened. I checked the tire pressure and everything is good. I normally get an indication on which specific tire has low pressure. I took it back to them and the guy did an on board diagnistic but not scanned the TPM sensor on the tires. Of course it's an old car so it gave some result. And when I researched on that code it it something that a car shop would fix. After several research i made I took the car back to them and hoping a different guy will check. Another guy did and he only had to scan the TPMS sensors in the tires and "bingo", 2 of the sensors are not responding. I told him that this only started after a tire replacement from their shop. He said it can't be. He gave me an estimate that costs $150 for each sensor replacement. Did not even entertain the 99.9% possibility that it's their fault. Be very careful. I heard that this normally happens when they replace tires... I hope someone will do something about it. read more

They never tell you they are behind I have to complain every time I come in cause I'm waiting 60-90 minutes before my car even gets seen. I have been a customer of the Naperville, IL service center of Pep Boys on Ogden Avenue for 15-20 or so years now. I have spent quite a bit of money there over the years. Perhaps at least 10K to 15K or more total thus far. I trusted the people at this store to be honest and they did good work. In the past I have given them a five star rating while everyone else gave them horrible reviews. I now am giving them a one star for safety reasons and bad attitude of an employee "Tom" who has been there for years and never really had a good attitude. You just put up with him to get the work done. At least I did until now. I had an appointment yesterday 2/5/22 for an oil change. I went into the business and was shocked to see that not one person behind the counter there was masked. After 900K people in America are dead because of the virus, and with COVID running rampant, NONE of these employees had masks on. I needed my car serviced, so I waited far away from the desk. When someone was available (an African American Man), I told him I wouldn't come up to the counter until he put a mask on. He was respectful and complied. However, "Tom" was buzzing all over in front close to him and if he was breathing in close proximity, I didn't want to get too near him either as I am immunocompromised and am more at risk than others of getting sick even though I am vaccinated. I don't broadcast this fact, but people who work with the public should be sensitive of others and wear their masks if representing their company. When you are on your own time, do what you want. When you are in a business setting dealing with people, be considerate of others and put the darn mask on! Anyway, before I approached the counter I asked "Tom" if he was the manager now (knowing if he was, he might have the authority to get his people to mask up in the front of the house). He said "yes", and I asked him why he wasn't wearing a mask. In a cocky manor he said "Because I don't have to", as if regulations didn't apply to him, and he was above the law. I was surprised. A manager should lead by example. So, I asked again, "But why aren't you wearing a mask"? Again, in that same cocky manor he said "Because I don't have to". He further said something to the effect of masks being suggested but not mandated. I didn't want to stand there and argue with someone who clearly didn't care about my concerns. So, I told him to cancel my appointment, I will take my business somewhere else and walked out. "Tom" could have cared less that a big chunk of future money was walking out of the store. Very selfish and disrespectful. If he is the manager, as he said he is, then I know why they get such bad reviews. I went straight to the Firestone closer to my house and left my car there for an oil change. Before I went there I called to see if they wear masks. The person who answered said "Of course we do! We have all kinds of people coming in including older people who have conditions". Now THAT is a place that cares about their customers! It's a no brainer! I have two other cars that I take to the dealerships for service and ALL of their front house people have been masked up even when there weren't any mask mandates. Again, if it is a good company, they will do what helps their customers regardless of mandates because it's the right thing to do. Not this Pep Boys! They let their employees bring their personal feelings about masks into the work environment, when there should be a company policy that dictates what is to be done. So, I wanted to let everyone know before you go into this service center, that you better have a really good N95 mask on or you will be putting your health (maybe even your life) at risk as the people there (especially "TOM", have no regard for their clients. Goodness knows how many people they have infected or will infect with COVID should one of them have gotten it or get it and how many that may even die because they wanted to get their car fixed at this Pep Boys. I was a little hesitant to bring my car in here after reading all the negative reviews, but I can say I definitely found a place where I'll be getting my car fixed now. Since my favorite place to get my car worked on closed down, I've been trying desparately to find a good, honest, reliable mechanic shop. I look for upfront pricing, no BS upsells,, and a place that keeps an appointment. This place fits the bill- finally. I have explored a lot of these crappy oil change places on Ogden Ave, and I can tell you that if there's an industry in need of regulation or total disruption, it's the oil change business. Most of them are so full of s**t about crap your car doesn't need, they don't list prices, and they don't honor appointments. I made an appointment here yesterday for this morning at 9. I pulled up at 8:55, and within 10 minutes my car was in back. My service advisor, Tom, told me the cost up front and referred me to the loyalty program to save a few bucks. They did the usual checks- oil, transmission, tires, etc. They told me I had an alignment issue in the front wheels which I already knew about. He quoted me a price that was about equal to my last place, so hooray for honesty. By 9:45 the mechanic was done and I was on the road. Definitely a good experience, at least for an oil change. Customer service is poor. I can in the set up an appointment for a Lyft inspection. Which Lyft recommended, not mentioned you can go anywhere for one. While waiting to be serviced both old male employees just acted as if wasn't there. One was in the phone and the other looking at paperwork. Once acknowledged I requested for an Lyft inspection. Wednesday-Friday was available, mind you it's Monday. I was told Wednesday was open. I chose 11am and then was told that's not available then I asked what is available. I chose 10am, then the older male employee suggested I travel to Lombard for my first Lyft inspection instead of going to them which is right across the street for me. My wife and I recently had a very negative experience with the Pep Boys in Naperville, IL (store #818) on 6/12/20. I've called customer service 4 times, each time assured that an area director would contact me in 24-48 business hours. I also sent an email. No one has gotten back to me. Here's what happened. On 6/11/20, I purchased a car battery for our 2013 Volkswagen Beetle on the Pep Boys website. I inputted the car's criteria and, of the choices produced I chose the Champion Auto Battery, Group Size H6 for $139.99. A currrent promotion reduced the price 25% to $104.99. Installation was free and no additional charges were itemized or footnoted. I also ordered an air filter for $14.99 (after the 25% discount) bringing my total to $119.98 (before tax). We scheduled to have the battery installed on Tuesday, 6/17/20 (we were just going to pick up the air filter and install it ourselves). The next day, Friday, 6/12/13, after shopping, our car would not start. We called for a tow; our tow truck driver jumped the battery and our car started. I called Pep Boys in Naperville, IL and spoke to Thomas, telling him our situation. He said it might take a while but they could get the battery we ordered installed by the end of the day. Once there, my wife tried showing Thomas the paperwork from our online order. He didn't want to see it, saying that he could access our information on his computer. He also told us that they did not have the air filter we ordered, which was not a big issue. The car was done within the hour. I went to pay. But instead of giving us the total we expected from the website (minus the air filter), $104.99 + tax, he gave us a total of around $170! How could this be?! That is not even near the price we agreed to on their web site! Thomas told us that they did not have the battery we ordered in stock so he "went with the more expensive battery"--WITHOUT CONSULTING US! When he saw we were upset, he changed his story saying that the battery I ordered was actually the wrong size. Well, that's on Pep Boys: I inputted the car information correctly on the website and the battery I purchased was given as an option as being correct for our 2013 Beetle. We then asked to see the paperwork for this transaction but HE WOULD NOT SHOW IT TO US UNTIL WE PAID! But we were not about to pay until we understood this amount. So, he took 25% off. Not exactly a bargain since that was Pep Boys' current promotion, anyway! He made it sound like he was giving us a gift: "well, I'll take 25% off"! It is interesting to note that he was not automatically going to give us the 25% off; the price we were expected to pay obviously did not include the 25% off that he should have given us anyway! Plus, there clearly must have been additional charges that we were never told about. And there were additional charges. Thomas grudgingly removed one of them, the "PROSTART STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEM EVALUATION" for $15.99. Of course, we knew the old battery had failed; we did not NEED it tested (plus the car was never moved; how could it, therefore, have been tested?). Finally, he showed us the invoice. There was a $7.80 charge for "BATTERY PROTECTION SERVICE", a $2.19 charge for "06064 PRTCTRS TMNL COMBO SIDE TOP 2/CDX (whatever that is and whatever it is we never asked for it and don't want it), and a "SHOP FEE" for $2.38. None of these charges were covered with us before the service was done, and NONE OF THEM WERE INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT at the time I ordered that battery online! Who doesn't tell the consumer about additional charges before the service is done? NO ONE! Every other mechanic we have ever gone to tells us the total cost before doing a repair or installing a part. If something needs to be changed for any reason, we are told before anything is done. Plus, we are always provided with a printout itemizing the charges--no matter what--regardless of the business performing the service. We did not need or want the battery tested. We did not need or want an extended warranty. We did not want or need "06064 PRTCTRS TMNL COMBO SIDE TOP 2/CDX". This is classic Bait and Switch. Actually, worse. In classic Bait and Switch, the merchant tries to talk the consumer into purchasing a more expensive product than the one listed. Here, we weren't even given a choice! We were never told beforehand that we were being "switched" to a higher priced battery! I want the difference between the original price and the price we were forced to pay refunded to us - $31.12 + tax. As of now, no one from Pep Boys has reached out to us. There was an online coupon available that they never mentioned, made the difference between whether or not I was going to get my car serviced. When I called about it the service manager told me that an alignment is included in the strut replacement. When I asked why I was charged for an alignment he said "included means it was included in the price I told you". One problem: he never told me a price. I would have left my previous update stand, but when I went back to get a refund and return the lug nuts that do me no good, the service manager Carl had total attitude. Here's a tip, just say we're sorry and issue a refund. I really don't want you to continue to badger me with how you're trying to justify your charges. Plain and simple, your service advisor Barry tried to screw me and gave me false information on where I can get new lug nuts. Why would I even consider going to the dealer and pay $240 for 20 new lug nuts? I found them on eBay for $22.87. Even Discount Tire would have replaced all 20 of my lugs with their one piece lugs for $60. I went back to Discount Tire and they rotated my tires and installed my new lugs for free. I will never consider Pep Boys for anything. I used to stop in from time-time for supplies, but this experience has been enlightening to say the least. read more

I came here in 2010 to get new tires for my newer car (2008 Nissan Versa). I rarely had to put air in my tires, and when I did, the TPMS monitoring system would tell me so ONLY when I needed to put air in. Basically, everything worked great. I came to Pep Boys for a special they had (Buy 3 Get 1 Free) on tires. I get the tires, a couple hours later, I hit the road. What's this light that goes on my dashboard? Low air in my tires? How can this be...I just got new tires an hour ago! So I go right back and ask them to put air in my tires. It's absurd that they can put on new tires, but can't put any air in (I didn't say that of course). They do it without hesitation, and I'm on my merry way home. The next morning on my way to work, that little light came back on...tire pressure is low AGAIN?! I took it back to Pep Boys after work and told them that this has never happened to my car before...I had the car for 2 years and only had to put air in my tires every few months. Why is it telling me that I need air in my tires TWICE in 24 hours? They took a look at my car, scratched their heads, and told me that they didn't know what was wrong, but they would put more air in. This time, I got a few days of driving in before the light came back on. I was pissed. I went back there and told them so. They took another look at my car and told me that the seal on my tire was broken, which was making it so that my TPMS system was telling me that I needed air constantly, whether I needed it or not. "Ok, well can you fix it?" "Yeah, let me get a quote." "No...it wasn't broken until I brought it in, my guess is that you guys broke it when you put the new tires on." "Hmmm, no, I don't think we broke it. That wouldn't have happened." "Well, it wasn't broken until after I brought it here, so, it looks like that's how this played out. I need it fixed." They didn't seem to understand what I was saying. Long story short, they said that either I could pay for them to fix it, or get nothing. I took my car over to Firestone, and they laughed and said that they hear of this happening frequently: people putting on new tires and breaking the TPMS system. Unfortunately for me, Pep Boys took ZERO responsibility for it, and I've been putting air in my tires every 6 weeks for the last 2.5 years, because I never really know when my tires are low on air. I just always have to guess, until I shell out a few hundred dollars to get it fixed. Everything stated here is my opinion. Either way, I'll never return there. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Went there for an oil change and wheel alignment. Somehow, when I picked my car up, the check engine light was on. Wasn't on before, just got it out the shop and passed emissions test recently. Since then, there were very noticeable differences as if the car was breaking down. Tried to tell me it's a clogged catalytic converter which is estimated around $700. Took it to the shop that did my previous work. Turns out it's just a missing fuse. Only costs $10. The mechanic literally laughed and said I wonder where the fuse went. Back to normal since then. read more

Recently bought trailer tires here. Turns out, from the last time I got them (elswhere), they have become hard to find. Most places told me they could not even order them. Pep Boys said they could. Great for that! However, the tires they got for me turned out to be 2 yrs old. I was in a time bind so I went ahead with it. When I came by to pick them up and pay, I asked them if they could adjust the price since they were so old. They refused even tho I think we all know that tires degrade with age. I've never bought trailer tires that were over 6 months old, and I would'nt have this time except I didn't have time to fool around. Nobody there had attitude like a couple other reviews, but the bottom line was old trailer tires with no consideration of that. Beware if you buy tires here, make sure you check the age before you go ahead with the deal. Because they told me the age of my "new" tires was not uncommon here!! read more

Terrible customer service. Apparently, texting and refusing to help customers is what they do at this store. Then, when they do ask to help, they are smart asses about everything. I asked about vacuum hoses for my truck. They parts guy looked at me and said, "why, do you have a leak?" Terrible service. read more

Brought my truck in for brake job. They told me my calipers were almost frozen, the wheel cylinder is not sitting properly and the whole job would cost $900. I was appalled! I told them I couldnt afford that to put my truck together I would pick it up. The guy there told me it is unsafe to drive and asked if I was going to have a tow truck pick it up. I said no and he said he was going to mark on the paperwork that it was not drivable. My husband picked it up and no one said a word to him when he was there. We had our mechanic friend look at it a few days later to discover the pads rotors shoes and drums have plenty of wear left on them. The brake fluid resevoir is almost empty. Pep boys never mentioned the fluid and wanted to do a complete brake job on my truck for $900! What a bunch of scammers! No stars for these guys. Beware! read more

It is now 7/31/2017 an PEPBOYS has not fixed my car yet after admitting that they did in fact break my radiator fan housing an my engine has a excessive vibration when turning the air on. They just replaced my air conditioning compressor an engine bogs down when Turning air on also. Please do not take your car here !! They state senior management will reach out to you but it is just for show, an the Regional Area Director Nelson Rodriguez is even worse then the employees!! read more

I've been a customer here for 2 years now, taking in 4 different cars for oil changes. I have had one bad experience recently, but Carl in service is determined to make things right. He gave me a call on my cell the Monday after it happened, we discussed the issue, and he got my business back. Not many stores go to the lengths that Carl went to, and for that I'm very appreciative.
