Good ol' Pep Boys! This shop has been very reliable and is my go-to whenever I need an oil change or tire rotation. Prices are reasonable/leaning towards the pricier end, but the service is consistent, of quality, and quick. There's also a Starbucks across the street if you need some coffee or snacks while you wait. Most notably, the shop has a new waiting area so that you can lounge around while your car is being serviced! It comes with a Keurig machine and coffee bar, some comfy leather chairs to sit on, WiFi, and a working station with outlets! It def makes the annoying but unavoidable waiting process that much better! I would recommend you making an appt on their website first! Let me explain... I got time today!! On Thursday (April 13th) I replaced the struts and shocks on my GMC Acadia. Immediately I researched the least expensive place to take my car to in order to get a full alignment done. The best price I could find was Pep Boys ($100)... So on Friday (April 14th) I drove to Pep Boys to have the alignment performed. I was "helped" by the rudest "customer service" agent named Hernan Cortes (See attached photo) who immediately told me, "I'll contact you as soon as I know what parts you need" which I found interesting since I wasn't aware, and neither was he that I needed parts... I was there for an alignment. Two hours later, Hernan Cortes Called me to let me know a plethora of things were either missing or needed repair and oddly enough by his notes "both" at the same time, which doesn't make a bit of sense... for my vehicle before an alignment could be performed... to the total of $1,802.00!! See attached photo. I informed Hernan Cortes NOT to touch my car and I would be there immediately to pick it up! Fast forward to today, April 18th... I had an appointment with Les Schwab for the EXACT same thing... an alignment... before I spent $1,802.00 as requested by Pep Boys, you better believe I was going to get a second opinion!! I notified the very nice and polite (female) customer service agent at Les Schwab that the GMC might need a few new parts that may be damaged or missing and if that was the case to please call me with an estimate. She obliged and told me that she would do just that. About an hour later I received a telephone call from Les Schwab stating that my vehicle was ready for pickup and that there was NOTHING damaged and NOTHING that needed to be replaced!! HERNAN Cortes from Pep Boys in Merced,CA was lying and made up damaged and missing parts to try and get over on me to the tune of approximately $1,700.00 of unneeded and unnecessary parts and repairs!! I'm actually disgusted and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau tomorrow regarding Pep Boys criminal business practices. It's no wonder they were sued years ago for this exact reason to the tune of millions of dollars!! I am so thankful for honest people like Les Schwab and I encourage EVERYONE to do two things... 1) AVOID the criminal enterprise which is Pep Boys, and Hernan Cortes! 2) Take your vehicle to Les Schwab as they are friendly, reliable, reasonable, and honest! P.S. I am including 4 pictures... two are from the Pep Boys criminal enterprise, and the second two are from the honest and reliable folks at Les Schwab!! I am taking the time to write this review based upon my recent experience with the team at Pep Boys in Merced, CA. My husband and I were traveling to a family birthday camping trip in the Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park on a Sunday afternoon. Our trip would last 8 days and the campground is over an hour into the park where there is no cell phone or wi-fi coverage for any carrier and no way to contact anyone (including Rangers, 911, AAA, etc...) Leaving from the San Jose, CA area, we were just getting through Los Banos on HWY 152 when my husband noticed the tire pressure of our front right tire was losing pressure (30 psi vs 39 psi of the other tires after heating up from driving a couple hours). We stopped and put in some air and checked to see if there were any noticeable reasons (nails, etc...), but didn't notice anything. The tire was brand new and had been installed by a local Pep Boys approximately 1 1/2 months prior, so when we saw that we were losing approximately 10 psi per 20 miles, we called the closest Pep Boy's to our current location and were told to come by and they'd look at the tire for us. We arrived around 2:45pm on Sunday 8/14/22 and we were greeted by Justin at the service desk. Justin informed us that they would look the tire over, patch it if it could be repaired and told us the estimate, if it was an issue with the original install there would be no charge at all, and if it was an issue with the tire itself, it'd be between us and Amazon since the tire was purchased through their Amazon store. Our truck comes with an unusual standard size, and he told me that they don't keep that size in stock. He told us that one customer with an appointment was just ahead of us, and our tire would be next. It's not a large waiting area, and all seating was taken, so, we decided to go outside where we could also watch all the accessible supplies we had loaded up in the back of the truck for camping. It was a very hot day (over 100 degrees and probably hotter in the parking lot), so we found a shady curb we could sit on and wait. It didn't take too long before we saw Justin drive our truck into one of the bays and it was probably about an hour or so before someone actually removed the tire and started examining it. After the initial check, the mechanic came over to us, and let us know he couldn't find any leak at all from the tire or even from the dent in the inside of the rim that my husband caused when he 'curbed' it a few months back. So, they were going to "dunk" the tire to see if they could find out where the air was leaking out since the psi was 28 when we arrived. Over the next 2 hours, I watched several mechanics (including Justin at times) go over this tire with a fine tooth comb (well...LED lights, squirt bottles, tub of water and anything else they could think of to try) and they were all truly puzzled as to where this tire could possibly be leaking air since they couldn't find any leak anywhere! The store was closing at 6pm, and they offered to put on our spare on for us so we could continue on our trip, but, since the tools to unlock the tire were buried with our camping equipment and has a different size rim (WTF?!), we chose to continue with the air compressor and hope for the best. What my husband and I "discussed" on how to proceed from this point has no bearing on this review, so I'll spare those details. One of the mechanics brought the truck out of the bay and stated that we're good to go, and we asked about the cost so we could pay for their time. He was adamant that Justin assured him it was no cost and we were "good to go". We then approached Justin himself to inquire about billing, and again, "no charge" and wished us a safe trip. Our minds were truly blown by this kindness and also for the time and attention this team gave to us late on a Sunday afternoon in almost unbearable heat! Each mechanic that participated in our experience (probably about 4-5 and I'm sorry I didn't get all their names) were respectful, courteous, and communicated what was happening each step along the way. I arrived almost in tears, and left still worried about the tire, but, with a bit of my faith in humanity restored and that was worth our having gone through the experience!! It reminded me of what businesses were like when I was growing up...when customer service mattered and people genuinely wanted to do a good and thorough job. I had them do an oil change. That part was fine. I also asked them to check my brakes because they were just starting to squeak. When I got a call from them they said that the brakes were damaging the drum due to metal on metal. They said that I asked them to confirm that was what was wrong, he asked the technician and they said yes. They said it would cost over $500 on a Nissan Sentra because they would have to completely replace the whole brake system. I said no thanks and went somewhere else. There they said they just blew it off and said the brakes were just fine. They will last for a while yet. The squeaking has stopped and it didn't cost me anything there. Be aware, they will try to cheat and steal from you. read more

I would not recommend this Pep Boys to my worst enemy. You make an appointment online expecting your appointment time will be within a 10 to 15 minute grace., not expecting to have to wait an hour and a half just to start on your vehicle. Then to find out the price that was quoted online is not the same price that you pay for at the end due to them adding additional fees and charges. I would recommend Les Schwab or American Tire over this badly serviced badly operated mechanic, and horrible customer service. read more

Be sure to bring receipt because sales lady that retrieved my order in parts will be suspicious. Pep Boys Merced, CA has absolutely disintegrated these past 55 years since the 1960s when store was teaming with customers. Today 02-21-2020 I was rudely treated when attempting to return an item. I answered their questions but none of mine were answered. The cashier was arrogant and a jerk. Their quality is about average but prices higher than competition. This time there was a mishap and something was broken and it made the car non operational but they fixed it and even offered a rental but it was not necessary the problem was fixed within two days and the gentleman apologized and I did not have to pay for the oil change since the problem they caused was over a 13 hour job to fix and over 1000 dollars to fix. This place is driving me nuts, I am currently in a full waiting room, I have been here for 4 hours and I am expected to wait 2 more. Making an appointment is unnecessary because it is an arbitrary number. Not one person in this waiting room is pleased and one woman just told me she has come back to have the same job done 3 times. Staff seems lost and the mechanics just wander about the shop milking every task. I stood outside for 30 minutes watching them walk around and nobody was within 50 feet of my truck. I would rate 1 star, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because it is seemingly a busy day and I have some pretty major maintenance going on, but so far I am FAR from happy or impressed. UPDATE! 24 hours and 130 miles later in Sacramento my truck is broke down. Truck over heated, lost power steering and battery power. I had an appointment to take my Honda Pilot to Honda in a few days, my battery suddenly died and they couldn't squeeze me in for a battery change. I made an appointment online at Pep Boys and arrived for my appointment time. Come to find out their computers had crashed, so they didn't even know I had an appointment. I fully expected them to tell me that I would need to come back tomorrow, because they were busy. The gentleman helping me was so kind and told me that he thought they could work it in. In the midst of having no computer systems, and being busy they did my battery in about an hour. This place was actually good at one point. A year ago I was in need of 4 new tires, some light suspension work and an alignment. I was going to get my tires at Garza but Pep Boys offered to price match and then some. I was lured in by the 30,000 mile warranty and free rotations. Fast forward to 2 days ago. I bring it in for the free rotation and notice some outside wear. I ask about my alignment. Warranty was only for 3 months. Guy tells me I need new struts ($1,2000). Says they can only warranty tires if they are damaged or unusable. They rotate tires. I leave. Next day I'm driving late night on Highway 152 and run over a nail. Tire blows out. I wait on the side of the highway in pitch black for an hour. Come in next day with blown out tire. Now all of a sudden they tell me my tire is worn down 50% so they have to charge me $70. I explained that was never told to me and that I've only gone 10,000 miles. She says "what can I do for you". Um, isn't it your job to tell me that? Told them I'd never purchase anything there again. Shame too since I just got another car and need 4 new tires. Looks like Garza it is. This is the first time I ever bought tires from Pep Boys. For comparison I've bought sets at Big O and America's Tire Company many times and they both actually honor their warranties. read more
