Bought my tires from here with road hazard coverage last year. Thursday my sensor have me a low tire warning. Upon inspection I found a screw in the tire. I made an online 8am appointment for tire repair. When I arrived I was approached by their service writer who said "I have bad news for you" and proceeded to tell me that the online appointments we're separate from them and they had no techs available to help us. We could however come back another time and they could "try" and get to us. So my road hazard coverage was useless. Fortunately America's tires was open and they took us immediately and repaired my tire for free. I will not be buying tires from Pepboys ever very again. They do not honor their appointments or road hazard coverage. read more

The best customer service I've ever had! The alignment didn't solve the issue. They offered to redo, ended up troubleshooting and they found the real problem; giving me time to save up and fix once tires need to be changed. Customer Service Manager, Paul Samra, walked me through the issue, explained, and gave me options that I could work from. I recently lost faith in my long time auto shop located in Merced. Made an appointment for my brake changed at 2pm. Took my car in 10 minutes before 2. Customer service was ok. They greet u well and all. After I finished telling them everything I want them to do & check, I waited and waited in the waiting room. 40 mins later my car was still sitting in the parking lot. Waited another 30 mins. My car was still sitting in the parking lot untouched! I noticed that all other cars that came after were getting checked before mind and I HAD an appointment. I asked them why haven't they check my car yet & the manager said his technician is busy working on something else. I asked him that it's been more than an hr and I made an apointment an hour ago so why haven't my car been checked. He told me that an appointment guarentee me a spot on the list but it does not guarantee go get it checked right away! Now I understand that it won't get checked right away obviously but waiting an hr, 2 hours. Maybe possibly 3 hours just to get your car checked? What's the whole point of making an appointment then? Disappointed. Oh and I took my car in a couple weeks prior to this incident to get my tires changed. I have a navigation system in my Acura TSX. It never turns on or off by itself randomly while driving every 2-4 mins. Suddenly after my tires changed it started turning on and off and restart every 2-4 minutes while driving. I asked the manager does it have something to do with the tire changed & he said no. It might had been a coincidence that it's started right after I changed the tires! I don't understand bcus that never happened before since I got my car about 2 years ago! I probably will never go there again! It's hard to get help at the parts counter since it's rarely manned. The service department had moved their service desk to the back of the store which makes little sense to me. Pepboys in merced took 4 hours for brake service. Then one of the employee told me that they just need to put my tires back on and i will be ready to go. Waited 20 minutes until i decided to walk outside to see how far they have got . No one was even working on the car. I told one of the employee there that i need the car out because i have to work in a bit. Took 40 minutes or so for the tires to be put back on and was late for work. If you are going to take 2 hours (not an exaggeration) to do a full synthetic oil change (had an appointment) then you should at least have wifi that works. In time: 10:39 Out time: 12:50 My appointment was at 11:00 so even if it got started then that's almost 2 hours. AMAZING! Yes, I had to wait 3 hours to change two tires, but it was worth it. I was doing the usual 5 hour drive from So-cal to Nor-cal when OOPS, one of my tires shredded a bit. I called everywhere and noone had the tire size I needed. Pep boys was there. Ashley was there. Alberto was there. I got towed to this Pep Boys and was so stressed. They got me started and Albert was extremely nice. He was extremely nice and made me feel very comfortable. And that was what I needed for this extreme detour I went through. We were on our way up north for an event. Our Mini Cooper decided to break down somewhere in Merced. We had it towed to the nearest service station and thank god it landed us here in this Pep Boys. They couldn't fix the Mini Cooper which was a bummer! They did let us leave our car in their parking lot and even offered to push the car into their garage space over night to make sure no one breaks in or steals the car because it was an unsafe area. We ended up renting a car from Merced up north and driving back down to Fresno the same day. The very next day we picked up our mini from this pep boys location. If it wasn't for this place, we would've missed the event. The customer service was great and everyone was so kind. You guys are awesome, thank you! read more

We were on a weekend trip and had a tire blow out about ten miles from Merced, at 7pm on a Saturday night. We knew we couldn't continue the highway driving on the donut spare, so we took a chance and headed over to Pep Boys, which we knew closed at 8pm. They were exceedingly nice, and the on-site manager, Joe, went out of his way to have the mechanics put on a replacement, even though it meant staying late. My "30 minute" oil change took an hour and a half even though I had an appointment. If your store advertises something that's supposed to set you apart from others you should do it. As I was being asked what I wanted the woman did not explain to me what the different options would do for my car or how much they would cost so my price got jacked up $50 without understanding why. The ONLY reason this review isn't for a 1 star is because they alerted me to some bad weather cracking in my tires that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed. Called on Saturday night about 7 pm. Phone took too long to answer. I was on hands free unit so I had to let the phone prompt complete before it automatically transferred to customer service phone. Took many rings before someone answered. Usually there is greeting every 15 seconds or so but not this time. Unsure if it was their fault or the phone for the long delays. When I was able to get a service advisor I was greeted warmly by Mark. I could tell he is fairly new to automotive customer service. I was disconnected after being placed on hold and I could tell he didn't write down my phone number because he asked for it twice. Give these guys some post-it's! It helps them help customers! After confirming some pertinent information about my vehicle and what options I had in order for them to receive my vehicle I decided to drop it off Saturday evening. The first thing you notice when entering the parking lot is the "sardine-can" parking. The store is easy to enter but the customer lounge is small and uncomfortable. I have shopped Pep Boys in 4 different states and the set up here is by far the worst in terms of their work space. The area for service reception reminds me of the garbage patch in the North Pacific Gyre. Come on Pep Boys give these guys a decent work space! It looks very disorganized! The merchandise area is clean, organized and well laid out. I was received by Carlos. Carlos was very receptive towards my needs. I commute 4000 miles a month from atwater to sacramento so I demand a lot from my vehicle and those I allow to touch it. Mark called me Sunday morning like he said he would. I allowed them to change my oil, and I was able to price put some estimates. I wanted to do some additional work but Mark said they wouldn't have enough time to properly service my vehicle. He seemed genuine. When I received my vehicle back, there was no reminder sticker on the windshield nor was my oil life monitor reset. Overall it was a decent experience. Carlos and Mark were very professional and deserve more than the conditions which they work. It appears that Pep Boys has taken the approach to spread their employees thin and then give them a disorganized place to work. Mark and Carlos deserve all three stars with the Store and the tech who didn't reset my monitor and failed to place a reminder, themselves responsible for the lost 2 stars. As a final note, Pep Boys lack of a store in Atwater or Elk Grove are my primary reasons for going elsewhere for my brake fluid exchange and my transmission filter change possibly. Going into Merced is out of the way plus the store is located in a "Red Light" district. read more

Saturday, 10/5/2013, my BF & I were coming through Los Banos to get to Merced for my son's birthday party. We stopped in El Nido off of 59 & with my luck, my tire somehow started losing air quickly. My BF called Pep Boys & an employee named Alex Pino answered. Assuring us that tire repair is possible but they'd have to look at it first, we made a B line for Main Street. As soon as we arrived, we found Alex and got the paperwork started. From the beginning Alex was courteous and calm, something I was NOT. I was upset from what had transpired and was wondering how I'm going to get back home without having to spend the night in Merced since I had to work the next day. Alex's demeanor never changed - he was thorough in his explanations, treated us with respect and answered all of our questions. We felt very comfortable working with him to resolve my problem. After finding out that the hole was too big to plug, Alex was willing to show and explain things in detail to my BF and then explained to me as well. I appreciated the fact that he didn't try to avoid us or not answer our questions. That is something I run into quite frequently with auto shops. Employees assume we are both idiots and talk down to us mainly because we're not being specific. It seems to be the norm, especially at other auto stores that start with an A or a K that if you don't know what you want, you're dumb. Alex did NOT do anything of the sort. He asked us plenty of questions and figured out what we wanted and needed. I felt he explained all of our tire options in detail and answered comparison questions as well. Most employees in my experience have tried to avoid comparison questions mainly because they're not knowledgable in the subject. Alex knew about Chargers and tires so we felt he was more than competent in providing answers. I'm glad he did because I was kind of confused. Although the store was getting ready to close, Alex made sure he didn't leave us high & dry. He stayed with us until my car was ready and we had our keys in hand. THAT is customer service - He didn't rush us out or dismiss us like I've had happen at other stores. I watch for good customer service and always want to give kudos where kudos are due. I believe this is the case here. When an employee keeps good eye contact, speaks in a calm tone and is willing to do whatever's necessary to complete the transaction & make a customer happy (within reason), then I believe it deserves noting. Came to this place after I got tired of the bad service and super high prices at another chain mechanic shop (starts with fire and rhymes with stone). Just needed an oil change, took a little over an hour but the great customer service made it worth the wait. Found a nail in one of my tires and the manager signed me up for the rewards program and fixed it free of charge. Gone to a few other repair shops with horrible customer service, no where for clients to sit and wait in the heat that constantly try to swindle me out of money because they think I'm clueless about cars. Worst place I have ever been. They received one star r/t not have a big ZERO you can click. First they stripped out my new lug nuts to one of my tires and blamed it on the last person to rotate my tires. Not true they were brand new. I had to go to a car parts store and buy more for them to put on. Then they pored a whole 5 gallon jug of oil all over my engine when the pour nozzle fell off. It was so bad that it required them to take off the drip pan which was full. It was a mess from beginning to end. My charger and I will never be returning, EVER!!! Oh and I still got charged full price not to mention they wanted me to let them do more work they thought needed done. I don't think so. read more

They were very nice when I first entered the building. I told them what was wrong with car and they found my wheels were not aligned and something was off with my wheels. They told me that the repair was going to cost around $360 and 10 minutes later I got a call that they needed to use a special kit for my car that was going to cost another $180. I ended up with a bill of more than $500. I wish they were more explicit on what they were going to do to my car and what the price ended up being. On top of all that they ended up finishing 1 hour later than what they had promised and caused me to be 30 minutes late to work (each time I asked when they would finish they would say "a few more minutes"). Pepboys has unethical business practices, performs unprofessional services, and has zero liability for their negligence when they destroy your vehicle. On or about of February 20th 2019, I had called prior to debrief what service I wanted to be done to my car "Oil Change." I provided them with newly purchased high quality oil, oil filter by Bosch and the additive. The additive is needed because newer generation of motor oils currently lack OEM specifications for older type of vehicles. I stated verbatim on the phone and in person before they rendered the service, place only 5oz of the 3x concentrate of ZDDP into my oil, which is also stated verbatim on the back of the bottle for this make and model.. They did the exact opposite, I witnessed them through the window putting the entire contents of the bottle in my car even when I gave clear and concise instructions. Immediately I spoke directly with their mechanic where I mentioned that from innumerous research that by doing so can cause severe damage to the catalytic converter, whom he responded that information was incorrect. Less than 2 weeks later, my car now guzzles 8 gallons of fuel within 80 mile trip plus no more wind coming out of my exhaust pipe. Diagnosis: Damaged Catalytic Convert. Pepboys happily declined to repair the inflicted damages to my vehicle. Enter at your own risk. Inability to read, inability to render adequate and professional services. read more
