WARNING, PLEASE READ: Charged me $520 to put on two front tires on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee AFTER telling me the car was essentially dead in the water. Hub cabs failing, little-to-no brakes left, all tires on their last legs. The guy telling me about my service report referred to it as "catastrophic damage" and was emphasizing how much repair costs would be, heavily implying that the cost would not even be close to worth spending for the condition that the car was in. He even referred to a viral case in 2023 of a Kia Soul having it's tires fail & go airborne, comparing the damage of that car to mine. And yet, despite assessing all this damage, they decided to put brand new wheels on a car that they claim is basically totaled? I even asked if the tires could just be removed so I can pay for labor costs & tow the car elsewhere, but they declined. They will give you the impression that they mean well & won't just try to money grab, but at the end of the day they could have done the right & logical thing with my situation. They instead chose to charge me $520 for a car that, in their own words, is not safe for me or anyone to take on the road. I had an appointment time for a tire rotation today at Pep Boys, Lutz #1687 at 4:00pm. I arrived early and the tire bay was open. They told me it would be about 30 minutes. Someone else showed up and the bay was used for their car ahead of my appointment time. An hour later my car was pulled in while techs lifted the hood and talked and joked around and my tires were NOT being rotated. I was told they were doing a courtesy inspection. I asked for my keys so I could leave. This is a ridiculous way to treat a customer with an established appointment time to accomplish a simple task. I bought these tires at a premium price at this store so that I could easily have my tires rotated. I have also been a customer for many years. I will never spend another penny at any Pep Boys location. What a ridiculous experience! read more

Very chill manager who helped me out with exactly what I needed for my cars new brakes. Some tires needed very little others more. When paying for the service he offered coupons that I wasn't aware they even offered leading to a total amount that left me with a lot of extra money in my pocket. Terrible service. told me they'd swap my tires over to my new rims. I bring my car in first thing Sunday since apparently they didn't have any openings Saturday and the guy at the counter tells me that they can't do it. What's weird is he told the previous customer that he wouldn't patch her tire because "no one was there to do it" knowing this it seems like they were just lazy and didn't want to do it. Been there 4 times in the past month for a diagnostic and to get a sensor replaced, got told it couldn't be done and I'd have to come back another time, first because their specialist wasn't there, the second time because he was too busy (despite me having an appointment), the third time they did the diagnostic and found nothing. After doing some more research and consulting mechanic friends from out of town, I came to suspect a sensor, and shortly after, the check engine light came on for that sensor. It's really sad to see how this place declined. I don't know if they changed management, but it used to be a wonderful place to go. Now the service is absolutely horrible and the new people they've hired mostly this older lady, are nothing but miserable and talk about how much they hate working there. These guys are terrible. Took my car in to get two tires changed. Somehow they couldn't get a lug nut off that I personally had off a week before doing other work. Cost an additional 100 bucks to fix. After they melted part of my rim. Second trip was to get my AC looked at. They were sure my AC compressor was to blame so I replaced that myself and still do not have cold AC. Lastly they will quote you two different prices for the same work in one day. I don't think anyone in this garage including the manager knows what they are doing. EVERYONE please stay away from here. read more

The team at this Pep Boys location is the absolute best in every way. I've lived close to this location for the last 4 years. I've been in to this Pep Boys multiple times (at least 15) during that time. Every time that I come in, the team is extremely friendly. They don't mind explaining and showing me the issues that they find. From what I've seen, they go out of their way for every customer that walks through the door. I will continue to bring my cars here whenever I need service. I have no idea what is wrong with the people that have left them negative reviews, every person I speak with in the waiting room and in town is always extremely pleased with the mechanical work and the customer service. I received a good quote on a set of new tires, so made arrangement for the installation. While you can get a good price, beware of any add ons. During the installation of the tires, I received a phone call that the rear brake pads were worn and should be replaced. It was also suggested that rather than measure and grind the Brake Rotors, it would be better to replace the Rotors with new ones and install new brake pads. The cost was quoted at around $350. Since I have done mechanical and automotive work since I was a teenager, the replacement of the pads and rotors at $50K miles did not seem unreasonable. However, even at 85 years old I am still pretty handy and decided that it was a job I could tackle. I ordered the brake pads ($35) and decided to hold off on the rotors. When I pulled the wheels, I found that the pads were only 50% worn and would likely last another 30K miles. I plan on stopping at Pep Boys and show them the pads. The rotors were fine and with a gauge, I was able to determine they were not warped and they had NO wear. I replaced the pads in les than two hours (I had not done a brake job in about 8 years on my last Odyssey). Such action by this Pep Boys Manager (Steven) seems to take advantage of a customer. I hope I have the fortitude to bring the old brake pads to show Steven but I imagine that my "steam" will have blown off in a couple of weeks. If Steven sees this review, he can call me and I can show him the pads, so he can see for himself. I won't bore anyone with the millimeter measurements of the new pads and those of the ones I replaced. read more

Car window was stuck down, took it in immediately on Saturday when it happened but was told they couldn't work on it until Sunday. Called Sunday to confirm that I wanted the part that was needed and the work to be done. Was told 1-2 day for the part to get in on Sunday and was incentivized to pay over phone - $547.36. After not hearing anything for the next 2 days, I called on Tuesday at 5pm for a status update and was told the part had been back ordered with no estimated time available on re stock. At this point I wanted to get a refund for the payment that I had made on Sunday, as neither the part was ordered or service was completed but was told I needed a manager to issue the refund and none were present at the store. Was told manager would be there on Wednesday and I could show up at anytime to start refund process. On Wednesday show up at 7am (open), manager not there but I needed the car so the employees there allowed me to take the vehicle despite the window being stuck down, payment made, and no refund started. Was told that refund process could be started over the phone so I went home to allow time for a manager to arrive. I called at 1pm, manager on lunch break and employee took my phone number down so that they can call me when manager came back from lunch. After hearing nothing, I called back at 330pm and was told manager had left for day. Told that manager would come back tomorrow (Thursday) at 7am. Called store at 7am and manager answered, advised that he can't issue a refund at the store and it has to be done via corporate as the amount exceeded the $250 threshold and may take 2-3 weeks until check arrives. I was without a car for 4 days and paid over $500 for a part and labor that was never ordered/completed. Never have been treated like this by anyone and let alone this Pep Boys location. Communication and transparency could have made for a better experience, both of which customers should look for in any service being performed - especially vehicle maintenance. I have been a customer of Pep Boys for over 11 years. I have always found Pep Boys to be good people when it comes to caring for my car. In Orlando, Las Vegas and now Wesley Chapel, Pep Boys has always treated me in an honest and fair way. Maybe it's because my last name is Pepe, lol. Well, I want to give a loud and amazing shout to the Boys over at store #1687. Adam, the service advisor, #1 Top Notch guy. Always happy and always reassuring me that everything is going to be ok. Reassure me? of WHAT?!! Well, I won't go there because not everyone is perfect, but what made me truly feel comfortable here at store #1687 in Lutz, FL was the belief Adam had in his mechanics that everything REALLY was going to be ok. Well, I watched Uri, the mechanic, work on my front driver side wheel bearing and spindle on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra, I thought oh crap, this is going to be a lot of labor and cost. Well, after talking to the 'Manager On Duty' that day, he wanted to do a repair that was not truly in my best interest. I didn't know that until I talked to Uri. Not to get into the details, but Uri ensured me that he was going to do what was in MY best interest and because of that I was more impressed with store #1687. Having to come back in a week to get the final repair, it scared me driving on the wheel, so when calling back, Adam once again assured me it would be ok. When I returned to have the repair done, Adam and a new fella named Chris took the brunt of my anxiety when I was told the repair wouldn't start for another 3 hours. And once AGAIN, Adam reassured me everything would be ok. He promised me that if I left my car and returned at 2:30, the repair would be completed. He then went even further by making sure I returned home and back to the shop safely. That was going above and beyond in my opinion, but you know what? I truly appreciated it. Well, let's button this up, when I returned to pick up my car, I was treated like a rockstar. Uri came out and explained in great detail exactly what he did. The process, the parts and the lil extras he did for me while he worked on it. Thank you Uri...the pizza is on the way. lol. Then I went into the office to greet Adam and Chris. I guess the manager on duty that prior week is no longer there. hmm. Well, Chris reviewed the bill with me and showed exactly how much Pep Boys cared about my financial situation and how they'd work with me. I won't go into detail, but I will say this, I was impressed, pleased and very happy with the end result of this lengthy process. If you live in the surround area, Land O' Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Lutz and so on, I highly recommend this shop to be your home garage. Garage? I only post one star or else it would not post.This is the worst place to go. . BECAUSE: I made a 4 pm appt to have my brakes examined. I have new brakes, roters But I had to use the previous squile pins. That was my #1 issues to have this shop look at that. I arrive to my appt 10 min early. The two over size( chewing on food while mask was dangling off his ear)workers refused to see my car because all their bays were full. I reminded them that I had a appt. and they are missing the concept of a appt.They refused to hear it and requested I leave my car till the next day. As I left, not all bays were full, nor not one mechanic was even working in their bay. This shop must not need the service and met their quota for the year. I work for the largest employer in Hillsborough County and I would never recommend this lazy shop. Worst part, the next day I received an email that I missed my appt. Did I want to reschedule. On 10/15/22 i purchased a set of tires from the location they informed it would be a week for them to get the tires into location and they would contact me. On 10/17/22 I contact location to cancel order and was informed a mgr would need to call me back as they were with another customer call was never returned . On 10/19 i called store again spoke to someone who informed me that there may be a 25% restocking fee and he would need to reach out to the corp office about refund. I Then received a call 10/18 saying tires where in (vmail) I reached back out to store and phone rang several times with no answer. I then filed a dispute with credit card company and they found the charge to be legit based of the information provided by store. I reached back to 12/23 and was called Vmail on 12/24 saying the refund was being issued from there corp office. Went to location 1/19/23 and spoke to mgr of location who informed me that refund has been request and id receive a check in the mail. and there maybe a restocking fee of 25% i asked if there was anyone i could call and speak to he informed me i could call there corp office but he'd be the one returning my call left my name and number with him again to see if there was any update to to my return. Still have not received a call our a check or credit to my card. I never received product and tried to cancel order twice before the tires arrived in there location. read more

Called Pep Boys in search of two new tires for our car. We were told that they had 2 and could get us in that morning. We showed up and gave them our keys and waited for over an hour until someone told us that they in fact did not have the tires, but would get them in the next day. They could see we were dissapointed and offered to throw in an alignment for the inconvenience. We returned the next day and they completed the work and then couldn't seem to get the bill rung up in their register. They finally did and we were finally on our way...two days later we find out that they double charged our credit card. We called and told Juan R. (the assistant manager) what they did and received very little sympathy for their error and he told us that our bank needs to take care of it, that no one there could do anything. I brought my 2004 E500 Mercedes Benz into Pepboys for a new alternator and 2 new oil gaskets. My car has always been garage kept and only has 49,000 original miles on it. I assumed that Pepboys had experienced ASE Automotive Service Excellence technicians but apparently not. Technician Dan worked on my car to replace the alternator and 2 oil gaskets. When I pulled up to get my car Dan left and wouldn't return. Pepboys was in a hurry for me to pickup my car so I immediately thought that was suspicious. When I turned my car on I noticed someone from Pepboys had turned my A/C to maximize the A/C yet there was no cooling and I got a warning message that the temperature was too high and so I immediately turned my car off because I could see my car was running hot. Technician Clayton came out to look at my car and decided to bring my car back into the garage. An hour later Clayton found that Dan NEVER reset a sensor. Dan didn't even connect my A/C unit. Technician Dan did a piss poor job on my car yet I paid over $1,225 for this lousy service. I will NEVER go to Pepboys again. The manager on duty Jose was uncaring and too nonchalant. I'm a senior citizen and diabetic and he a a nerve to offer me pretzels out of a jar that everyone dips their hands in. My sugar was dropping and I had to wait an additional hour for Technician Clayton to try and fix my car. Pepboys was only concerned about getting my money. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Pepboys on Catfish Lane in Lutz FL. I wish I could rate Pepboys zero stars. read more

Ok, so I bought my wife new tires a couple years ago from pep boys. She's continually had a leaking problem in one of the tires and has visited pep boys at least four times to address the problem. I went into the shop with her today to see what the deal was. The man behind the counter was dismissive and rude to her. He merely stated they could find nothing wrong with the tire. Now I'm no tire expert, but I doubt the expectation with a new tire is to fill it with air every two weeks. I inquired whether there was a warranty for a defective tire after he continued to rant on how he couldn't replace a tire which wasn't damaged. He had very little to say. He was quite smug and rude so we'll see if this place takes care of the problem. Not holding my breath. Do yourself a favor and don't buy tires from Pep Boys. read more

I usually go to get a $20 oil change, but they don't rotate tires where I go. So I heard an ad on the radio and I know Pep Boys usually does $20 oil changes. I had a conversation with the desk guy and explained I just want the cheapest way to get my oil changed with tire rotation. I had an appt at 10 am. But appointments don't mean anything here. They have a tendency to overbook (as other people stated). About 1 1/2 hours and an attempt to sell me a few more things later, I ended up paying $68 for the oil change. I watched as a mechanic moved at sloth pace around my car. I assume this is where the time put into the car comes in? All of this and my tires weren't able to be rotated. So basically, I paid over $40 more and I usually get a free car wash with my oil change. I won't be back. On a side note, they are friendly, so that was why I gave the 3 stars. read more

I went in for a routine oil change and tire rotation last week. What a mistake. Talk about high pressure sales tactics. My car had been to the dealer for some routine service week 2 weeks earlier, and was completely checked out. As I was in the waiting room waiting for my car to get done (which took 1 1/2 hours, and there were only 2 other cars there), John the manager came to me and gave me a list of things that were wrong with my car, including the front brakes which were supposedly bad. The Toyota dealer had just replaced them 3 months ago!!! He was rude, arrogant,and was pressuring me to replace the brakes right now, because he said they were dangerous. I left as soon as I could, and went to Wesley Chapel Toyota, and had the brakes checked, and guess what? They said they were fine! That's the last time I'll EVER go to Pep Boys. read more

My daughter took her car in for what we thought was brakes based on the noise. She had taken the car to the dealership for an oil change two months before and was told she would need brakes soon so it was expected. What wasn't expected was the call from Pep Boys claiming the car was "unsafe to drive" and needed brakes, rotors, calipers, cv axles, and a tune up. Said there were holes in the rotors and the cv axels were melting. Initially quoted $2000, went down to $1500 after "working the numbers". Then after telling us how dangerous it was to drive said we could just do the brakes and calipers for $1000. She didn't have that kind of money so we picked up the car, had to sign waivers that it shouldn't be on the road and was unsafe. Took it to another mechanic and it only needs brakes. No holes in rotors, no melting cv axels. Thanks for trying to rip off my 21 year old daughter who is busting her ass working 2 jobs to make ends meet. read more

Went there today, I arrived at 3:50 pm and was told the shop was closed. I had a nail in my tire, one of the workers said he was still on the clock and would take care of it, but the manager said nope, it's 4:00pm and directed me to take the jeep to tire kingdom down the street.Which I did. This of course wasn't the story 4 months ago when I paid this pep boys shop over $800 for tires on my daughters VW. But from here on I will be taking my business to tire kingdom, which by the way was also closed but fixed the tire. The tire kingdom is located a mile away and was worth the extra time.
