We were quoted one price, once we received the bill we were charged additional $120 I was not very happy with that. Pep Boys website is very misleading! we took the car to get our brakes done. We were quoted one price then charged an additional 100 dollars from the original quote. we paid $1200 in cash! I went for a simple wheel alignment was told that they couldn't perform it on my car a Ford F150. They still charge me full price and told me that I needed brakes. I took it to the Ford dealership in Hackensack got the wheel alignment done and was told that i didn't need a brake job. I went to repair flat aired tire. After they seal the nailed hole tire, they said there's a warning light on dashboard which I needed to check which will cost money for mechanical system checking. I went home to check the light symbol meaning on dashboard and found out it was the pressure warning sign. Which they knew what it was but told me I needed to check the mechanical system. They were supposed to reset the tire pressure after repair the flat air tire. I would not recommend any women to go there at all to get rip off and lie to get more service to make more money. Visited this location on 2/5/2020, 8am. I called in yesterday to see if I could make an appointment for a car oil change the day before and was advise it would not be a problem if I dropped off the car at 8am since the store opens at 7:30am. Fine I took off from work. I came in promptly and the representative said my car would be ready in 45min. Great! So I walked next door to Costco to pass time. I showed up 40mins later and saw my car STILL parked on the lot (same spot) and a mechanic was on his way to drive my car in the garage. WHY? I calmly walked into the wait area and checked with the representative who took my vehicle. 10 mins later he told me it would be another 15min. So total time for an oil change should be 1 hour and 5 min. Frustrating! Time is valuable and I made other appointments for the day already. It is very inconsiderate to stall and not stay on top of your job to ensure everything is running smoothly. It would have been helpful to know the garage was running up to 1 hour behind schedule. It doesn't matter if there are only two mechanics and the team is backed up. Don't over book and take in appointments if you cannot honor your words. Be upfront about wait time. Most importantly, why are you constantly on your phone? I had to remind the representative to check in my car 20 min later, only to find out I had to wait an additional 15 min. Total wait time: 1 hour 25 min $80+tax for synthetic pennzoil oil. I have to admit that the last 3 oil changes were with these guys, but each time the service is going Downnhill. They claim to have checked my tire pressure, that is a LIE! My pressure meter was still reading with LOW pressure. Now I'll just get the pressure fixed on my own. I will not return again and support their business at this location anytime soon. Be aware, they do not line your car seats and floor mats with paper. On Friday I went to the pep boys' shop in Hackensack to have my driver side front tire look at because it was losing air. I went after work at 5 pm, the service man got my car in the bay around 6 pm he came back with picture of the tires with a piece of the back of the tire rubber missing around the rim. he told me they could not be fix and i needed new tires. I told him to replace them. i left it was almost 8 pm. the next morning i got up for work and my tire was flat. they had change both tires on my passage side of the car. I got out of work on Saturday after 6 pm so i went to the shop on Sunday. I shop manger i told him what happen, and he took the car in and then told me that he can fix the tire and charge me $26. So the tire I ask to fix on Friday did not need to be replace and they got me to buy 2 tires i did not need to buy. they could have fix the tire did not and it was flat on Saturday. Call customer service and they never got back to me It been 3 weeks and only thing I got was a AI response they don't care all they want to to cheat you out of money read more

Tire services only now, the store is closed off and even though you can see inventory between the cardboard in the slots, it's only tires. They have a lot of cars out front, though, strong demand. There's a sign saying buy three and get one tire free... Unsure if that deal is still in place. Had to go elsewhere to get my car supply parts. read more

I previously gave Pep Boys a 5 star review for a tire repair and they truly were outstanding. When I needed 4 new tires I went back expecting the same great service. In the end I was very unhappy. I did not qualify for a rebate I was promised I would get. After the tires were installed I noticed identical scratches on all 4 rims. They swore up and down they did not cause the scratches, but then proceeded to take an hour of time to try and remove the scratches with a buffing wheel and compound. I will never go back to Pep Boys and I would never recommend them to anyone. Be careful and proceed with caution if having them mount tires on your wheels. read more

I had a nail in my front tire , it was a Sunday pep boys was one of only tire places open on holiday weekend I said I just have nail in my tire that needs to be plugged. The service man took all my info then said he needed someone to check it to make sure it can be fixed 5 minutes later he came back and said it can't be repaired because it was to the left of center of tire. He said he can get me the two front tires and alignment for around 700 dollars. I said no thanks I'll look elsewhere Tuesday when my mechanic was open I went there . Just like many other reviewers, I've received the same scam service. I went into pepboys for new brakes and tires. My car was running great before taking in my car to this location. After getting my car serviced, my car would shake in highway speeds. I took my car back to pep boys and was told I needed new struts(just like many other reviewers coincidentally hmm..) believing their "expert" advice, I went ahead and request they replace my struts. Took my car back on the highway next day and not only does my car still shake, I started having issues keeping the car straight. I take my car back again and they try to balance the wheels again followed by "you're rims is probably bent" as a reason for the car shaking. (Even though I was told the new struts will solve the shaking). Hoping them rebalancing my tires will solve the shaking, I took my car back on the highway. Car is still shaking. I take my car back again to pepboys and and now I am being told my axel many be bent along with a need of replacing my differentials and asking for another 1.5k to do the work. I've spent more than 4k on new tires, struts, brakes and in return they ruined my car, sent me on my way in an unsafe vehicle they incorrectly serviced, and are recommending I give them more money without a guarantee that it will solve the issue. Thanks pep boys for breaking my car and scamming while putting my family and I in danger having to drive the car at its current state. If you are looking for reliability, accountability, fair pricing , and honest environment, this is definitely not the place for you. read more

My first experience with Pep Boys and definitely my last. I needed a routine oil change. I made an appointment using their website for 4:30pm. When I arrived I wasn't sure what to do so my boyfriend went inside to ask. They told him just park and give them the keys. No specific spot or area to just park and they said they got it. Funny cause they didn't know the color or license plate of my vehicle but I assume they just walk around the lot aimlessly pressing the cars panic button. I was given a link to follow my vehicles status when I made the appt. And it was in the "appointment confirmed"phase the entire time I was there. When we asked if they knew which car was mine in the lot we were told "Ive been doing this for a long time I think we know" with a chuckle. At 5:15 we asked one of the many guys standing behind the counter if they were gonna be taking my vehicle, still parked in the same spot in lot. He went inside the other room to check I presume but can't confirm. He came back and said "your car is next to go in". What color is your car? We went back to waiting. At 6:15 I checked the link and still no change and my car still outside in the same spot. We asked for the keys and left at 6:30. 2 hours after supposed appt time. I get it there's delays throughout the day that could push back appt times but there was no communication on there end that would ease the confusion of the customer. It was like pulling teeth to get anything from them. Customer Service didn't seem a high priority in that place. What a mistake. Thought I'd get a decent deal on 4 tires (with a buy 3 get the 4th free promotion). I should've known better. 2 hours later my car is still on the lift, without tires. A waste of time (therefore $) considering Hudson Tire down the street would've had me in and out in an hour, tops. My head's about to explode. And don't get me started on all the extra work they pitched; I can say "no thanks" with the best of 'em, but this was just insulting. Consistently poor customer service. Significantly Understaffed. No one acknowledges customers presence. If you call, you get placed on long holds. This place suffers from consistent long wait times. Its in desperate need of better management and staffing. Decent warranty on their tires though which is somewhat redeeming. "Great Service For a Chain Auto Place!" A short time ago, I found myself (once again) performing my own DIY maintenance on my sedan. I have grown to be proficient in a few basic services on my car, such as replacing suspension, brakes, oil changes, gasket seals, plugs, ignition coils, etc. However, during this particular occasion, while changing out the rear shocks on the car, an OEM bolt snapped in the trunk. I brought my car over to Pep Boys #300 at 65 Court St in Hackensack, NJ where Paul Fernandez assisted me with all concerns. I brought my new shocks with me, and Paul's service team repaired the broken shock mount bolt as well as installed the parts that I provided for a decent price. Paul made a customer out of me with the help to my car's suspension, and, soon after, I brought my sedan back to install the AC Delco Performance front rotors and brake pads that I purchased online. As a newly recognized Pep Boys Rewards member, and with discount coupons in-hand, I saved a huge amount of money! I'm ready to start coming in for full-synthetic oil changes, especially since I receive discounts in the mail now... My only criticism are (1) I had to remind the shop to re-balance one of my tires, and when I came in for the pickup it hadn't been done; (2) and, I asked for a service estimate to repair my exhaust system, and that wasn't done before the technician went home for the night. Positives? * Service * Price * Nighttime Hours * Discounts Negatives? * Brand Selection What advice would you give to someone who wants to do business with this company? This place used to be respectable. Back in the day, it had the highest rating in the area. I'm not sure if after they remodeled they went under new management but it is not the same. I've read reviews that talked about super high pricing and how messed up this place was but I paid no mind because I thought, hey, I've only had great experiences there in the past, let me just check it out. I went there and told them I wanted them to check my brakes and belt and my trunk lock. They came back with an almost 4K estimate to fix my car. I WAS SHOCKED. According to them, my car needed shocks, struts, a belt, an alignment, new sensors, and the list goes on. I spoke to my fiancé on the phone and he reminded me that the breaks didn't need to be replaced (they were replaced not too long ago) but just needed to be bled out. I had also purchased a new belt two months ago. In any case, I took my car back and drove off in a car that according to what they were saying-- shouldn't even be drivable down the block. Long story short, I took it to a family friend and he was like, there are no problems with this car aside from the belt. The belt is the issue because it is not fitting properly. Nothing wrong with the brakes, structs, shocks, no alignment because the car didn't need any of that. In all, this place is bugging out. Also, the other mechanic was able to fix my trunk lock and charged me a fair price. Whereas, according to the attendant at pep boys, the mechanic requested 3 hours of labor to fix the lock. I brought my car in for service and was told my engine mounts needed replacement and there was possibly a problem with the CV joint. I had them replace the engine mounts and the left front axle. This cost over 2k. Once that was done the car drove better but still had a clicking sound when turning. After approximately 150 miles I returned the car because it got much worse. They claim the CV joint has now fluid and that my transmission is damaged. They are a horrible shop. Do not bring your car there. I am following this with a BBB. Org complaint. Save yourself. I spent about $70 to have new windshield wipers put on my car, when I moved to this area, about 2 years ago. I love Rain-X, so I got that brand. The people at Pep Boys said they were going to use wipers that fit to my car, a 2013 Nissan Sentra. They do not fit. They do not hug the windsheild like they should. They just smear. I never got back to a Pep Boys to get them fixed/replaced, so that is on me. But a friend just told me I could go to Valvoline and get new wipers for $20. So F$%# Pep Boys Hackensack. I will never go to a Pep Boys again. Also, I hate to say this, but my friend said "They saw you coming" as in, "Women can't go to a car place without a man. I brought in my car at the start of the day, 7:30 to get a simple headlight fixed. On the website it said it would be ready in an hour. I had a work appointment I couldn't be late to, but it said an hour and believed it. 50 minutes in someone finally came by to show me the headlight bulbs that needed fixing. Ok a bit late but I thought they would get to it right away. Another half hour goes by and nothing ready or even worked on. I asked what's up and they were not paying much attention. After referring back to the website that states it is included, I called them and the guy said that in order for them to do the tire rotation that is included, I had to request that. He should have given me that option in the first place if it comes with it. It sounds as if they just thought I would forget about it and there would be less work for them. He then said that he did not have time to do it the day I got it done and now I have to come in yet again. This place is not worth the money considering other places close by are $30 cheaper. Came for oil service, brake fluid change and tire rotation. Even though tire rotation is part of oil service I asked for it because I wanted to make sure it was done. Work wasn't done that I paid for, was lied to repeatedly by tech, 2 service writers, service manager and even some guy on the website chat. Stopped going to PepBoys years ago because of this type of poor service. Regret coming again and to the worst rated PepBoys in the area. If you're reading this ask yourself this... Do you really want to bring an expensive machine that can cause you or your loved ones a lot of harm to a place where people repeatedly lie and have so many bad reviews that all sound the same? A woman I spoke with on their 1-800 number understood how brakes work better than the guy who actually worked on my brakes! Tech working on my car didn't seem to know what he was doing and was taking parts off the car that weren't necessary to do the work that was requested. Tried to tell him he didn't need to but he insisted he did. Eventually someone else working there told him the way to do it. I never saw work done on my rear wheels. So obviously brake fluid wasn't flushed from there and the tires weren't rotated. Service writer tells me to come inside and pay, work is done. I tell him I don't think tires were rotated or brake fluid flushed. He insists they were. I can also see tires weren't rotated because of the amount of brake dust on my front wheels. He gets the tech to lift the car back up and rotate the tires, insists brake fluid was flushed. He leaves, still waiting for my car, I ask another service writer if they need to remove the rear wheels to do a brake fluid flush. He doesn't answer the question but insists the work was done without even going in to ask. Get keys from tech and I ask one last time if he did the brake fluid since I never saw him flush rear brakes. He told me he didn't have to flush the back, only the front because that's where the master cylinder is. So this guy obviously shouldn't be working on people's brakes if he doesn't know how they work. Go to pepboys.com chat where some representative tries to tell me that if I have a 2-wheel drive car they might not need the bleed the rear brakes. ??? Eventually call the 1800 number and make a complaint. Service manager from the store calls me later that day and tells me he watched the video and the rear brakes were bled. He said some other things that made it clear he didn't watch the video or even pull up the work order and was clearly lying to me. I tell him I'd like to see the video because the tech told me he didn't bleed the rear brakes. He tells me he'll call me back. Eventually I get a call apologizing for the "mix up" and I'll get a refund for the brake service which I did get. Did the tech working on my car do anything else wrong? Did he replace all the o-rings on the oil filter? Replace the crush washer? Torque everything down properly? Close the bleeder valves he said he did use so I don't lose brake fluid? Too many things can go wrong on the road and having a properly maintained car helps reduce the risks. I'd say it's a shame that PepBoys allows this type of behavior at one of their stores for so long but based on other issues at other locations this isn't an isolated location where this happens. read more

Shopped around for an oil change... and decided go to pep boys as they were offering $20 off synthetic oil service andid been very happy with their location on route 17. Since I always do high mileage which can get costly i thought this was ideal. I work an hour away so I went ahead and SCHEDULED my service to avoid long wait time-it was a friday. After driving for an hour in the rain, i get there to learn my appt can't be kept and id have to wait 45 minutes just to be brought in!! So I'm back to valvoline who NEVER disappoint and max you'll ever wait is 20 minutes... with a smile and open to questions. What a crappy spot! read more

Stopped by the new Pep Boys on Route 46 for an oil change and get the front end alignment checked on my 2018 Sonata. The oil change was expensive $72 for synth blend and they informed me my front tires were dangerously worn with the cord showing. Tried to sell me their house brand Cooper tires but I declined. when I went to pick up the car I told them I was taking it down the street to Mavis for the tires, the service writer got aggressive, told me I was wasting my money, they could price match any competitors deal, etc. I declined again and he became sarcastic, wishing me good luck. odd to see a 40 year old man act like a petulant teenager. Botton line, oil change was quick but expensive, overall customer service experience was poor. I will not return. read more

I came in not knowing anything and was pleasantly surprised to find how helpful everyone I spoke to was in the store section and service!
