Do not take your vehicle here. They will scam you and let you drive with a broken vehicle. I paid over $2000 for an issue with engine temp and ignition problems and the car did not even start. It then sat for a month while they claimed to work on it and then they tried to charge me another $2000. My 82 year old mother took her car in for an oil change. When she left the garage, one of her wheels fell off. They told her they did a complimentary tire rotation and the lug nuts were either loose or not all were replaced. Thankfully she was not hurt. Her car is in the shop and Pep Boys Insurance will not continue to pay for a rental car. This has brought her a great deal of stress. She has heart failure and a bad knee, needs PT 3 times a week and is in need of a vehicle. I've made several calls and emails to ask them to reconsider. No response. read more

luckily I have not had any serious auto issues so this review only speaks to the maintenance service that we all are obligated to do like oil changes, battery changes, and inspections. But even dealing with maintaining your car can be a bit frustrating with the wrong people, the wrong company, high pricing, etc. Pep Boys has come through each and every time for basic care of my car. Particularly speaking to the service and customer service. They treat me like I'm spending a million bucks and that I come there every day even though I don't see them very often and just do the bare minimum. Got my oil changed there the other day. They made the process very easy by scheduling online. I was upraised to see they had next day appointments available. Having my 10 week old puppy with me I was hopping the process wouldn't take too long. When I arrived they were very friendly and were able to take my car right away. It was convenient that there are shops and restaurants near by to walk to while you wait for your car. We walked to the pet store close by and picked up a new bone. By the time we were finished at the pet store, I got a call that my car was ready to pick up. This was one of the easiest places I have taken my car to get an oil change in a while. I scheduled an appointment online, arrived early and they didn't look at my vehicle for atleast an hour. *STRIKE ONE* When they called me back to look at what I scheduled the appointment for, they asked me if I recently had work done for the same issue. *STRIKE TWO* They proceeded to explain to me I needed to have X,Y and Z done and it would cost me over $800!!!! *STRIKE THREE* So I had them put everything back on and left. Like the other reviewers, we've had wonderful experiences at Pep Boys in Bridgeville. Yes, the staff were pleasant and knowledgeable and the service was prompt, reasonably-priced, and of excellent quality. What made me a booster and repeat customer of this business, however, was this: A few weeks after my wife and I had a most satisfactory experience at this Pep Boys with an oil change, we took our Saturn in to have the battery replaced or possibly for more costly electrical repairs, or at least that was what the symptoms told me would be needed -- engine sounding labored and lights dimming when the heat came on, the car occasionally stalling, the radio from time to time shutting itself off. The battery was nearly 50,000-miles-old and this is, after all, Pittsburgh. My wife and I took the car in and explained the situation to the manager. He personally disconnected the battery and inspected it. When he returned to the waiting area, I was fully expecting to hear that we needed a new battery or that we had a mysterious wiring problem. The fellow was smiling, not because we were about to become his next week's pay check, but because he had great news for us that he knew would make us happy. Turns out that one of the battery's cables was not correctly attached. Once he connected it properly, the car ran like a charm, all of the symptoms gone. The car ran like new, and today, four months later, our car still runs great!! When I asked the price, I was told the inspection was free. I tipped him $10, which I practically had to beg to get him to accept. This was the best car-repair experience I have ever had. EVER. It;s Pep Boys of Bridgeville for me!!!! read more

Possibly one of the worst decisions I have ever made was to leave my car with Pep Boys. Every morning, my car sounds like nails on a chalk board thanks to them. I wish I could give zero stars. I took my car to Pep boys in December because they were running a promo on tires and I needed to get my tires changed before the weather turned bad. While there, they recommended I change my front brakes as well as they were pretty worn, but the rear ones were fine for now. There was no noise coming from them, but after having the car for three years, I figured the brakes were due for a change. That was trip one, I was there on Sunday from 11-4 to get tires and brakes changed--$700. A week later, a coworker told me my car was squeaking extremely loud and that I should get it checked out. I took it back to this location as soon as I could, asked them to change my rear brakes, and for them to confirm that the squeaking was gone. After four hours at the shop and $200, they told me the noise was gone. I literally pulled out of the parking lot and immediately heard the squeaking. I took it back the following weekend, complained about the squeaking. They had my car for another three hours, told me they made some adjustments, and the squeaking was gone. Again, as soon as I pulled out of the lot, I could hear the noise was not gone. I had no way of knowing whether they actually even touched my car, but certainly nothing was solved. And we aren't talking about a subtle squeak--I am embarrassed to let coworkers in my car because of how loud it is. There is no way they drove the car around and could not hear it. The following week, I decided that if the guys at this Pep boys weren't going to do anything about it, I would take it to another location. I took it to a neighboring Pep boys, explained the situation, and they said they would take a look. About a half hour later, they came back to me and told me there is nothing they can do, as I had the cheapest brake pads installed that Pep boys stocks. While I didn't want to take it out on that young gentleman, I was livid. He told me there was nothing I could do, and I was stuck with the squealing (again, you could hear it very loudly when you are within 100 feet of my car as many of my friends have told me) for the next 15000 miles. Fantastic. To sum up, I've never had any problems with my car, gave it to Pep Boys, paid $900, made four separate trips for the same issue, and now my car sounds like nails on a chalk board to an extent where I can't let coworkers or clients in my car. And no one seems interested in apologizing or taking responsibility. Not to mention that it appears they have never heard of up-selling customers to better products. I certainly have no plans of ever taking my car back to Pep boys, especially being that I haven't received so much as an apology for my frustration that was caused by Pep boys. I certainly would not recommend this location to anyone. I thought a brake pad change was routine, and I could save a few bucks by going to Pep boys instead of my dealership. And at least they have the guts to admit when they screwed up and take steps to correct their mistakes. I will never make that mistake again. read more

I had a great experience at this Pep Boys. I got a flat tire and had my car towed in right as they were closing the the night. The gentleman working told me not to rush and he would help me get something set up for the next morning. I remembered that I had a warranty on the tires that I had just got put on only 2 months before from another place, and he was able to help me determine that it would likely cover my ruined tire (get the warranties, people.) He left a note with my keys since I was leaving my car there over night until I could get it towed back closer to home where I got my tires. He stayed with me a half hour after closing when I'm sure he could have gone home, offered to make a pot of coffee, and waited to make sure I was safely picked up with my ride. Although I didnt actually get work done at this location (I have at other Pep Boys locations, and have never had a bad experience), the fact they were that helpful with everything made all the difference. I would not hesitate even a second to take any of our cars here for service. If all the staff is the same, they are honest, and helpful, and will answer any questions you have. read more

My car tire was leaking air at a significant rate. If I made it home from work, my tire undoubtedly would be flat by morning. I made it to the Bridgeville store last evening and, without an appointment, the team at PepBoys was able to get me in quickly. Based on the position I was in I was preparing myself for a sales pitch--you need a new tire. What I received instead was a visual inspection of the nails that had punctured my tire and an offer to patch the tire. I accepted the offer. After the work was complete, the associate explained that if i joined the Rewards program I can get a free puncture repair. The net of all of this is that I was worried about having to spend $300 on a garbage tire and I walked away with no bill. I'm recently back in Pittsburgh after spending most of my life in Chicago and New York. What I've explained above DOES NOT HAPPEN in those places. Pep Boys had me over a barrel and they didn't take advantage. Extremely impressed and a customer for life. read more

Took my car 7 times to get state Inspection and emission done. Spend about $600 and almost spend 1 month after them. Towards the end of all this choas, indicating that the car needs re-inspected again.( this is after getting all the work done by spending $600). Took appointment and when I take the vehicle there, indicated they cannot take it in. No respect for peoples time and effort.. Had to leave work early to reach them and then had to see this attitude Sometimes it makes you feel that they are also learning by working on your car. Had to put two tires and it was done by a trainee and scratched the alloy wheels. read more

Very very unprofessional and poor customer service. I visited couple of times of requested for a A.C service. The store guy told me there was only one professional available and asked me to schedule an appointment. Today ( 08/20 ) I had an appointment scheduled to check my A.C. Again the same response ..... I wasted my entire morning.... This is crap and not expected. I even waited for 2 hours - and they are suggesting to wait for another 2 hours or go to some other center ? What is this ?? read more

I had a great experience recently at this Pep boys. I had a state inspection done along with 4 tires. I have had mixed results with this Pep-Boys store. Over the past four or five years, I've brought at least 6 different cars to them. They have installed and balanced tires that I purchased through Tire-Rack for one of my BMWs and did a good job. They've also been good with hoses and belts and pretty good with brakes. But there have been management and staff changes. The guy who knows Bosch ABS systems is long gone. I keep forgetting why I don't use them anymore and bring a car back every once in awhile. Most recently, I brought my Dodge truck in to get aligned. My regular mechanic does not have a wheel alignment rig and said it might need a ball joint so I was expecting that. (Ball joints typically cost less than $50 and are usually about $100-150 to install.) But this time, the guys here at Pep Boys ran the "what you need" bill up to incredible numbers and the mechanic working on my car took me for an even bigger fool than I sometimes am. He started by lifting the truck and telling me that my steering rack unit was leaking and needed to be replaced. (I had just had the oil changed elsewhere and had to point out that it was clearly oil from the filter change that had dripped on the rack, not power steering fluid.) Oh. Then he told me that both lower ball joints needed to be replaced and that he was going to have to BLOWTORCH one of them to get it out. Really??!! Blowtorch the suspension of a car? This isn't a "heat the nut to loosen it" thing. The tool to use if you can't loosen a nut and use a ball-joint separator is called a die grinder. And it is often cheaper and less labor intensive to just buy new wishbones than it is to replace the ball joints and bushings. The estimate they provided, not including the $600 steering rack I clearly didn't need), was nearly $1500! From what I can tell, that was ONLY to replace the lower ball joints and sway bar bushings. The total was $600 for parts and $650 for labor and another $100 for a labor warranty that by all accounts should have been included. I politely asked for the truck back and took it back over to my regular mechanic. He ran a quick quote. He can replace the upper and lower control arms (wishbones), the tie rods and the sway bar bushings using quality Moog parts AND install new front shocks for $500 in parts and $300 in labor, $800 plus tax. This would replace every moving part except the springs and give me a completely new front suspension. My mechanic was quick to point out that I didn't NEED all of this, but that if I wanted to replace these parts, it would be much cheaper to do it all at once while he was in there and things were apart. He then told me that the only thing I NEED in order to get the front end aligned is one new ball joint. $35 for the part and $125 for the labor. So this time, Pep boys managed to turn my front end alignment ($85) and a ball joint replacement ($150-200) into a $1500 estimate. Maybe next time I'll remember to read my review before returning to this Pep-Boys store. read more
