My brakes started smelling like something burnt when I engaged them. I figured I was due for a new set of brakes. I called on Friday evening and talked to the manager Elger Law. He told me to bring my vehicle in first thing Saturday morning which I did. I left my car and waited for him to call me with a quote. Instead he informed me that some brake dust was the issue and they cleaned all 4 brakes. My cost was $29.95 including a curtesy check of the vehicle. I was expecting several hundred. I have delt with this Pep Boys for over 13 years. All our cars are serviced here. They are fair friendly and reliable. The mechanics are certified. We purchased a battery from Interstate Batteries in Huntsville that was giving us an issue (thankfully before the warranty expired). Pep Boys is a location that was closer to us that honors Interstate Batteries warranty. Eldger was helpful with testing the battery/battery diagnostic, getting in touch with Interstate Bham to get direction regarding the warranty battery replacement and checked his inventory. I bought tires off a website. The place chosen to put them on was Pep Boys. I have never used this business before now. I had an appointment set up and verified for 8 am. ( not sure why we even bothered with an appointment ).I was there 3.5-4 hours for my tires to be put on my truck. They were not busy. There was no sense of urgency! I needed tires and they were running a great black Friday deal. I bought 2 Cooper tires and got 2 free. I went om their website and was able to set up the appointment. It was very user friendly. I received 2 confirmation emails. My appointment was at 10am and the tire installation was done by 1115am. The waiting room and bathroom were both clean. I only interacted with Anne who was at the front of the store. She was very professional and courteous. All employees and patrons were wearing masks. I recently had a front end alignment done here. When I came in for my appointment they told me they were 2 hours behind and asked me if they could reschedule me to 2 and a half hours later, which I agreed too. That was the only annoyance I had, but we went to shopping so it wasn't a big deal. Throughout the experience we had excellent customer service and they explained the process very well. My daughter goes to college in Birmingham and her car wouldn't crank--or even try to crank. Using roadside assistance she had it towed to Pep Boys. I called ahead to the store, but after the rude encounter I got I called my daughter to redirect to another place--but the tow truck had already left. They sold her the most expensive battery they had ("only one that fit her car"---maybe so...) and off she goes. Less than a full week later she needs another tow, but this time to another shop.......the only thing they found was a battery cable not fully seated on the post AND loose! The battery not secured in place at all! When you send your daughter off to college you look for a place you can trust for car repairs----well, that ain't Pep Boys on 280. I called Pep Boys to replace a tire that I originally purchased from them. Not all the dealers had the Kumho ecsta tire to replace my damaged tire from a pothole I hit. I Ordered a tire and it took 2 daysdo get ot here. Was not informed until I called to ask about location of tire 4 days later . Tire was ready and on rim that I had dropped by days before. Paid $270.00 For Tire they had on rim and balanced. They wanted me to wait 2 hours to remove the 5 bolts and exchange the tires. I really do not know what else to say. Apparently there is no more customer service anywhere. If it does not Work with in the employees system it will not get done. What a sad time for America and our future. I'll go ahead and admit, I hate going to get my car fixed. It always intimidates me. That being said, I've had enough negative experiences with Pep Boys for me to not go there anymore. In the past, it's just been vague feelings that they're overcharging me for things, telling me I need things done that really didn't need to be done, etc. But the last time I went was the last straw. The problem I wanted fixed was that one of my brakes was squeaking and was getting annoying and I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong, but I assumed it would be a simple, cheap adjustment. I took the car into Pep Boys, told them the problem, they took it for a short test drive to listen to the noise, then they took it in the garage and put it up on the lift. After some waiting, they told me that both the front brakes and rotors needed replacing. In an attempt to seem transparent, they offered to show it to me and point out where the rotors had worn down. I'm dumb enough with cars to not know exactly how far rotors should be worn down before they need to be replaced, but the mechanic was very convincing and they somehow talked me into doing this. $696 and a few hours later, my car was ready to go. But, as soon as I drove out of the parking lot, I pressed on the brakes and, sure enough, I heard the same sound that I had brought the car in for in the first place. I immediately turned around and headed back in and tried to remain calm as I explained to the guy at the front desk that the problem had not been fixed. He seemed concerned and went to talk to the mechanic that worked on the brakes. Their body language and way of speaking made me feel quite uncomfortable confronting them about this, as if they couldn't have possibly made a mistake. But, I got in the car with the mechanic and we went for a test drive and I showed him that the same noise was happening. Nothing was different. Once again, he pulled the car in the garage and checked it then came out less than 10 minutes later and told me what I had already suspected: the squeaking was caused by a misalignment in the brakes and all he had to do was make a simple adjustment to fix it. We took it out for another drive and, what do you know, the squeaking sound was gone. I had just wasted $696 and several hours "fixing" a problem that could've been fixed for free in less than 10 minutes. They didn't offer me any kind of refund for their mistake. In conclusion, I felt completely ripped off. Either the mechanic purposefully ignored the easy fix and suggested the more expensive (but unnecessary) fix in order to get more of my money, or the mechanic made a stupid mistake and didn't see the easy fix and cost me $696. I will never know, but either way something wasn't right and I'm never going back there again. read more

I personally saw the Manager cleaning the facility, dusting, wiping down all services with disinfectant, sweeping the floors, very in-depth housecleaning. Then the master technician serviced my vehicle adding new tires and an alignment. Pricing was extremely fair for the high quality and professional servicing. Getting my oil changed here is WAAAAYY cheaper than anywhere else. My oil and tire rotation was $28.00 total for my Chrysler 200. However, the wait is absolutely terrible, granted they are very busy on the weekends. But still... very long wait no matter when you go. read more

It's one thing to get a decent value for the money you spend at a business, but it's a totally different level of service when you are in need of something that may take an hour or so but only 10 minutes for the Pep Boys employees and they do it at no charge to keep you safe and on the road. I've experienced worst customer service recently I made an appointment and when I arrived they told me they were booked for the day, as if it's not a big deal for them. Many issues with this place, I'll start with the most serious. I took my car in to check a wobble in the steering wheel and get my oil changed. They fixed the wobble, it was much more serious than I thought, but they took care of it, got some new tires, an alignment and rotation. But I don't think they changed my oil. Not even two months later, I noticed my windshield washer fluid was empty. I hadn't used it since getting the "oil changed" and they claim to have a "multi-point" inspection in which they check fluid levels, with this included. Ok so I thought maybe they missed that, I went and bought new washer fluid on my own. Then, two weeks later, my car started over heating when the A/C was on. The coolant was empty. Ok maybe there is a leak. I took it to another place and they tell me that there is no leak. And the oil needs to be changed. I just drove my car for two months thinking I had an oil change, and fluid level check, when in actuality none of it got done. I traveled twice, so fortunately none of the problems started happening until I got back, or I could have been stuck on the side of the interstate in the middle of no where with a broken car on the way to my meetings. The result of their failure to change my oil when I paid for it, and they claimed to do it, was an extra chunk of change from my wallet, and a nearly broken car. If you do choose to go here, before you pay for your services, get them to show you the details, not read them to you. If they read you the details of your receipt they omit little things you may have told them to skip. Like that waste of money "fuel enhancer". They asked if I wanted this. I said no, and yet it still appeared on my receipt after paying, but somehow did not show up on the receipt when they were reading it to us. So we paid for fuel enhancer we asked not to get. I could look past that--once, as I know many car places try to cram extra charges down your throat, but not changing the oil? That's unforgiveable. Go to this place at your own risk, and at the risk of your car. read more

Awful service. Was told about 2 and a half hours for an oil change and alignment. 3 hours later my car hadn't moved. They said "It's being worked on now" at which point I told them no it's not as i pointed to my car in the same parking spot. They took in a gray accord instead of a blue civic. They had the nerve to want to reschedule. If you don't know the difference between colors and models of vehicles, can't keep your paperwork in order why should anyone trust their vehicle with this business? Never going back read more

I dropped my car off at around 7:45 on a Saturday morning. At around 2 pm, I drove back to the store to check on my car because I didn't receive a call to come pick it up. Of course, it was ready and we weren't informed. When going inside to pay and receive my keys, Yvonne was rude. Come to find out, my car was in the ready to pick up bin and she didn't bother to look to check to see if it was ready. Thankfully, Derek and Elder noticed this behavior and finished the translation for us as she proceeded to neglect the situation and leave for lunch. read more

Don't waste your time making an appointment because they won't get to your vehicle any sooner because of it. This is the second time I've scheduled an appointment to have my car worked on. The first time my car sat in the parking lot for an entire day and almost half of the next day just for a look at my A/C unit (luckily I didn't need it the next day) the funny thing is the process to check the unit only takes a couple of hours so if they had taken my car in at my appointment time I would have had it at days end. The second time is happening right now. I had a 9 am appointment and I was told it would take an hour to an hour and a half to get my oil changed. At 1 hour and 50 minutes they had just pulled my car in after I said I was coming back to take the car and go somewhere else. I am now close to 2.5 hours of waiting. So again I say don't set an appointment it seems they take walk ins before scheduled appointments or they're just terrible with time management. read more
