Based on other reviews, I was hesitant about coming here. But in line with a car warranty, I have to use services here. My car has been running fine. But will update if that changes. Employees were friendly and professional. I was impressed with the steering wheel cover. Everyone was gloved, masked, and practicing social distancing. read more

Pep Boys - Waiting area. Air conditioned. Which is good. I've been waiting an hour so far. Was told it would take an hour and a half, or so. - Auto Repair Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

In my opinion it's generally difficult to post an honest review of an establishment like this. I mean, you're not there because you want to be, but because you need to be and when leaving, regardless of the required repair, you'll be leaving lighter in the wallet. In addition, I'm the type of guy who tries do do as much of my own car maintenance as possible, and when I'm not able to, I'm already in a negative mood. So, how to be fair? Well I knew I needed new front brakes, in fact, I had been procrastinating for quite some time in this regard. So naturally I can only blame myself for letting things get progressively worse. So hoping I could get away with only turning the rotors opposed replacing them, I was prepared to fork out big bucks just in case the latter was required. And sure as sh!@, my rotors needed to be replaced. Not only that, though, but one of my calipers was bad as well, which meant a complete front brake system rebuild. OK, OK, after swallowing that pill I authorized the work and off I went about my business waiting for a call to pick up my truck later that day. The call came & everything was ready. Josh, the main guy, was pretty cool & let me use a 20 dollar coupon & threw in a free oil change. Here's the glitch, after forking out nearly 800 bucks, one would think your vehicle would be returned in good, clean condition. Yes I realize this is a business of grease & grime, however, there should not be grease & oil all over my door handle & on the inside of the door. What this tells me is the employees are not concerned with their customers' personal belongings & there is no final inspection/oversight of work performed. A personal touch and attention to detail goes a long way in my book, and unfortunately on this day, it was not provided. read more

We had our oil changed today and they said they would rotate the tires if needed. The oil change took almost 2 hrs and the guy behind the counter said we didn't need a tire rotation because there was more tread on the rear tires and that would help to keep the rear of the car from sliding. First, tire rotations are to insure even wear of your tires so they last as long as possible. Next, of course there is more tread on the rear tires because most of the weight is in the front, plus the steering is also in the front and the car is pulled along with the front tires due to front wheel drive. More tread on the rear tires really means it's time to rotate those tires to the front to even out the wear. As far as the car sliding around, a front wheel slide is far worse than a rear wheel slide on multiple counts. Last, on a side note there was a gentleman who warned everyone in the waiting area (3 people, 2 cars) not to buy a battery because they don't back their sales. My advice stay away from Pep Boys. read more

I am a lyft driver, and I needed my inspection redone. I called the pep boys on San Mateo near Comanche and Josh told me to come in. I was in and out in less than 20 mins. The staff was friendly, direct, and they have competitive pricing. I will definitely consider them for service in the future. read more

For the sake of the Yelp community I'll keep it PG. I came in to get squeaking brake drum fixed. I asked the guy to just fix the rear drum breaks, 30 minutes later he comes back with a list for everything wrong with my car (which I'm well aware of) I told him just the rear brakes. So he fixed the sqeaking, 2 hours later. Don't take his first price! He was going to charge me $500 to do it, I knew that was jacked up. So he makes a phone call and magically brings it down to $300. So I leave, not too happy and then top the garbage I experienced my automatic brake system was destroyed. read more

Absolutely satisfied with the service I received. Upon visiting albq my car broke down on a Saturday night and we were scheduled to leave town the next day. I was in a panic on if we could find anywhere to work on my car on a Sunday. The next morning I contacted pep boys had my car towed and was put to ease from a gentle Joshua. He promised me he was not leaving that day until my car was done. He held to his word and gave me peace of mind. I was very impressed. read more

Thank Joshua I really appreciate your help with my car

About a month ago I got my tires done here, and when I asked for an estimate, they gave me 2; one with alignment and one without. The estimate with alignment was obviously higher. After they had actually changed my tires they gave me an even higher price than they originally did with alignment. They did not even go near the alignment. They also proceeded to tell me that I absolutely needed brakes and reprimanded me for not getting them sooner. It is now a month later and I went to get my brakes done and they told me that my brakes were fine and that whoever told me to get them done was trying to rip me off. I will never go back to this Pep Boys ever again. read more

I had to really think about this review for a few days in order to let it set in. I needed to change my brakes fast. I knew the rotors were probably done. Life gets in the way and sometimes it can be hard to find time. I hear the commercial for this place on the radio all the time. You know it. "We really do care." So, I figured they would be ok to get the brakes done since they are a franchise and not some seedy mechanic shop. I get there and it looks like a seedy mechanic shop with a clever disguise. I had to go during the middle of the day. I work in an office, so I was dressed business casual. I called ahead of time and asked what the price range was for a standard brake change. They quoted me about $110. Not a bad deal. Brakes aren't rocket science. I get there and they greet me and take my truck and lifted it up. The guy takes me to the back and shows me what is wrong. Side note: I know what's wrong. I know what needs to be replaced. I don't have time to do it myself. We run through it and then we go back to the front. He taps away a calculator and then shows me a quote. Brace yourself! In fact sit down! Over $1,000!!!! I looked at this guy and told him he was crazy! Let's stop there for a minute. Clearly this guy was trying to rip me off. He sees some guy in a suit and thinks I don't know anything about auto repair. The soon realizes that I'm not a sucker. This is where I am torn. He was actually kind of cool about it. I said, "What about the $109 price?" I knew the rotors needed to be replaced. He said if I bought my own rotors he would replace it. Whack save over $100 on the rotors. Here is where I'm pissed. I had to haggle price with this clown! What if I didn't know about brakes, then what? I would of have paid over a $1000 for a simple brake job. The moral of this story. Find someone you can trust. Don't get your brakes at a shop like this. If you don't know about auto repair bring a friend. Don't show up in a suit when you have to get a quote for brakes. In the end Just brakes Doesn't Really Care about you. This is just a guy in a shop that will rip you off! I gave him an extra star because he was cool about giving me a reasonable price after I had to make a deal! Cheers! read more

Go here if you like to be ignored, have your time wasted, get ripped off and be talked down to

I hit a curb cut pulling out of a driveway, causing the corner of the front bumper to slightly detach as well as causing a disturbing mechanical sound below the bumper when driving over 20mph. I called this Pep Boys 5pm on a Saturday and I explained the problem briefly, the tech on the phone suggested that it was likely the skid plate. I drove over and they put my car up on the jack, replaced the skid plate clips, reattached the loose part of the bumper best they could and had me on my way in under 10 minutes. I was very happy about the bill. read more

Josh was great, my brakes were fixed in record time, he told me it would take two hours and he was done in an hour and fifteen min. I asked why, he said that he put priority because I was waiting, definitely would come again and again. Especially since they do more than Just Brakes, that's funny. Thank you Josh for the great service. read more

The first time i only went there because of a coupon for a low cost oil change and did not expect the level of service i received. The techs went above expectation to show me other things on my vehicle and explain them without pushing other products on me. I had no worry that my oil change was being done properly because I was able to see them add the new oil and new filter. Great service and positive friendly attitudes by all techs! I am going back to get my brakes serviced just because of the level of expertise that the techs had. read more

I really regret giving the Pep Boys on San Mateo a good review about the engine they installed on my truck two months ago. I have had nothing but problems with my engine ever since I left the store. The first problem was a bad exhaust leak from a bolt they forgot to put in the exhaust manifold. This made my daughter and I get slight carbon monoxide poisoning because the cab of the truck was filled with exhaust. I noticed the person that test drove my truck changed the radio station and the music was really loud when I started my truck. If he would have test drove the truck correctly he would have noticed the exhaust leak. Two weeks after that my fuel rail came undone when we where on the highway. This caused gas to leak all over the top of my engine and my truck almost blew up with my entire family in it. We had to call the NM State Police to come rescue us from freezing to death. It was 7pm and 18 degrees outside and we were far away from any towns. I took my truck in for my first oil change last week and found bolts missing and dents in my oil pan. I took my truck back and Pep Boys is refusing to accept responsibility for neglecting to inspect their work. I asked them why they didn't notice the dents in the oil pan and the manager said they just couldn't see them. I told them a real professional should notice something like that, not to mention all the other problems I had. When they informed me that they would not be fixing my oil pan problems I told them I was going to have to hire a lawyer to sue them for criminal negligence. I was kicked out of the store by the manager after I mentioned my lawyer. My wife has the entire conversation on video. I have contacted the corporate office and my lawyer. I am warning everyone I know about this experience. It took six weeks for them to put the engine in and they couldn't even inspect it right! read more

We went here 5 years ago, for an all around brake job (discs and rotors), and at the time, it was a reasonable price. We thought we would get the same kind of service as before, NOT THE CASE! My wife takes her car in for brakes and they give her this spiel about what it needs and its going to cost extra than originally quoted, so of course she lets them start working on it. She calls me and tells me whats going on, and I cant believe what Im hearing. So I get there and he pulls me to the side, and gives me the run down. Apparently the warranty had run out?? Even though it says LIFETIME WARANTY all over the shops advertising (commercials.banners etc) They also said they tested the brake fluid reservoir, and while they wont charge me to replace the fluid or the test, it was contaminated. How do you know somethings contaminated if you haven't popped the hood yet!!! So just the resurface the rotors, and put new brake pads in was $359+taxes. I asked them to stop working, put it back together, and we'll take it somewhere else. He said, I have to get approval from the Corporate office so he goes in to make the phone call, starts talking with someone, Im outside waiting around, and finally I go in to hear this conversation, and its yea, uh huh, yea, ok, well you know Im a people person and Im going to try and talk with the customer again see if I can get him to change his mind and hangs up! C'mon, is that really how you talk with someone from your Corporate office? I asked him to call them back so I could speak with them, and he wouldn't let me!! So again I tell him put it back together and we're taking our business elsewhere. He then says its gonna be a few minutes because they are still resurfacing one of the rotors, I'm like you haven't even taken the rotors off yet!!!! Long story short, PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE, where they will do an HONEST job and not try to scam you out of your hard earned money. read more
