Amazing selection of spices. I particularly love their baking spices and Mediterranean spices. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

The manager for this store leaves alot to be desired. One of the worst examples of customer service I have ever experienced. No greeting when we entered, no thank you when I spent over $100. When I asked for help it was as though she was doing me a favor. I don't think I will be back as long as she is there. I am assuming she was the manager because the other person came to her for a question. I think she called her Elizabeth. read more

Normally Penzeys products are pretty good but this last package of Italian sausage seasoning was almost pure salt. I've made sausage with their seasoning for quite a while and the last time, a few years ago, I noticed it to be a little more salty but still ok. This last batch I got in about Nov. and just made a pound of sausage, using the same amount of seasoning, was way to salty. It's like their using more salt to cover the lesser amount of the other seasoning. It was terrible. Unless the go back to their original recipe I won't be buying any more. I also have their breakfast sausage seasoning that I have to try and I hope it's not overly salty. As for right now I would not recommend it. read more

Holy WTF? I've happily bought my spices from this place for years. They shipped to my home in De Pere when I couldn't make the 20-minute drive to the store. Then last November (2016) I got a torrent of hate mail in my personal email box from this company's flaky CEO, who apparently thinks it's perfectly fine to abusively target his customers who have trusted him with our personal contact information. If you love and respect the United States, her history, her unprecedented level of individual liberty and peace, I implore you to buy your spices from a far higher quality spice merchant: Bill Penzey's sister Patty Erd. Patty's company is The Spice House, and it is an inclusive business that does not discriminate like her crazy brother. Their company pledges never to target their customers for abusive spamming. They have been a joy to work with. They're just as stupidly left wing as brother Bill but unlike Bill they know how to respect others and I respect them. I don't let political differences dictate my purchases, but I don't tolerate rudeness and intolerance like Bill displays. Happy to do business with his sister despite our political polar opposition because (1) she knows the family business; and (2) she's not abusive towards customers she has never met based solely upon political opinions. This massive character flaw has pushed me away from Penzey for good. Spice House's Milwaukee stores are amazing and their worldwide internet business ships fast. Every spice blend I have bought from them is of superior quality to Penzeys. The whole spices, which are of superior quality at Penzeys, are comparable at Spice House. I like Penzeys quality on the whole spices. Penzeys spice blends (not the great whole spices) are mostly salt--very expensive iodized salt. But even that would be just fine if they hadn't singled me out for horrible treatment. Bottom line: when I buy spice, I'm going to buy it from somebody nice. And I don't care about your politics. What a happy accident to stumble upon this place! I've been looking for a spice shop since moving to Green Bay and I finally found it. Great selection, friendly staff, nice packaging, and so many unique finds! Four stars because although the shop is well-organized, it's not well-labeled so you'll end up navigating through several times and missing things. read more

RUH Roh. I have a new addiction. I stopped in on small business Saturday and picked up some rare spices I cannot locate in my home town. I also snatched up some really cool gift boxes to give as Christmas gifts for $20 a box that include the spices and recipes. The people working here are delightful and take the time to walk you through all the options in the store. They have so many spices you can easily get overwhelmed so use their help. I was told they even ship which is great because they will get order from me in the future. I tested out a couple of the spices while cooking last night excellent quality! I first discovered Penzey's because of their posts during the election; I'm definitely always willing to check out businesses that will stand up for what they believe in. They have had some amazing initiatives over the past few months, and they had a Facebook post offering a free jar of spices, so I decided to take them up on that offer and check out the store. The store is well-organized and has a wide variety of spices available. They also have Penzeys magazines and swag for sale, which I found very helpful. I bought one of their back issues and am really looking forward to trying some of the recipes. Their magazines include a good variety of recipes in issue, and some down-home articles. One thing I really liked about their business model is that they sell a number of different sizes of spices, so for things that I wanted to try out, I ended up buying the small sizes. As mentioned in a previous review, there are sample bottles of spices where you can give them a sniff test. So far, I've used two steak rubs and their taco seasoning and have been happy with everything I bought. There are also a number of attractive gift boxes which would be easy to wrap and ship. The store staff were friendly when I've visited, and when they'd run out of the promotional spices I went in to pick up, they went above and beyond the raincheck experiences I've encountered at other stores. I was introduced to Penzey's a few years ago by a coworker who gave out gift boxes for the holidays. It was a great little 4 pack of a variety of spices. I was instantly hooked! Penzey's has the best selection of spices. It makes my head spin when I'm getting ready to place an order from them. I have to take several time outs when I'm making my list so that I don't make compulsive additions to my online order. They offer soup stock bases that are fantastic. Lots of flavor but not much in the way of sodium. I always look forward to the arrival of my package because the always give you one or two free samples. They also have gift boxes available. I have shopped at this Penzey's twice. The employees are very friendly and willing to either help you shop or leave you alone, which is a good thing. As noted, Penzey's spices are wonderful, and the extracts are great as well. I picked up a free bottle of a new mix, BBQ 3000 with a coupon from my last catalog; look forward to trying it.
