Their inventory selection is INCREDIBLE! They have so many genres and multiple copies of books that you are looking for. I oftentimes can't walk out without buying at least 5 books! 2. Their prices are incredibly fair. Not only can you purchase a used book which will obviously be cheaper, but even their new books are so reasonably priced and usually around 1/2 the price of the cover price!! I got a book that costs $15 for only $5!! 3. The owners are so incredibly kind! You can just tell that they love what they are doing and it's so nice to see someone happy to be where they are. 4. The location is so convenient and so close to a lot of the downtown restaurants. We always stop buy the bookstore after we have had dinner and it's not out of the way at all. 5. They are willing to purchase your books from you and either give you cash or store credit for them. I think that's fantastic and I usually end up asking for store credit because it feels like you're trading your books for other books. Not sure how fair they are with what they give you back for your books, but if you were just going to get rid of them anyway, something is better than nothing. I LOVE The Windowsill!!

First of all, the owner was super rad, and we talked for probably about an hour. She was super personable and told me about how she came to open the store. Her dog, a gorgeous black Lab named Zoe, kept coming up for love rubs and giving me her toys. The store was curated with such great finds. Lots of cool, pristine, vintage finds and some new home decor thrown in as well. It was the best of both worlds. She certainly has an eye for design flair (I guess she also helps with interior design). I loved the mid century sofa she had on display- it was in perfect condition and a great price. There is a candle- just one candle - that smells amazzinng. It's their "signature" Pentwater scent. Just walk into the store, and you'll be like "what is that?!" Yeah; two of those came home with me. I ended up piling stuff on the counter and then mentioned I didn't know how I was going to pack it all in my luggage. She took the time to wrap everything well and put some things in boxes to protect it during my trip back to Cali. I love supporting independent, local businesses mostly because I own one myself. I know what it takes to make something like this work, and it's not easy. I've shopped at Meijer many times, but after what I've experienced during the night shift (around 8…read morePM), I will NEVER come back. The night manager who has a limp and assistant manager who is short and has curly hair with cauliflower ear are beyond creepy. Instead of running the store, they stalk and stare at customers--especially women--making the whole shopping experience extremely uncomfortable. The moment you walk in, they start following you around the store, watching your every move like some kind of predator. I don't know if they think they're being subtle, but it's painfully obvious. It's unsettling and makes you want to leave as fast as possible. No customer should feel watched, judged, or stalked while trying to shop. On top of that, they treat their employees like absolute garbage right in front of customers. I've seen them yell at workers, degrade them, and act like they're above everyone. If this is how they behave when people are watching, I can only imagine how bad it is behind the scenes. Between the creepy, unprofessional behavior and the toxic management, I cannot recommend this store to anyone--especially at night. If you don't want to feel watched, stalked, or uncomfortable, do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.

The vibe is a little retro but my friends and I found some items to purchase. Inventory was a little limited when it came to brand new bestsellers, but if you want an older popular book you might be able to find it here. I ended up buying a few fun Manistee postcards with vintage scenes, including one of Orchard Beach State park, where we were camping. They made for a great souvenir! My boyfriend got a book on knots, and we found a used board book in the used books area for our friends who are expecting a baby. The used book room was a blast from the past, with some retro 90s cookbooks and other vintage finds. If I lived in the area this would be my go-to bookshop and I'm sure they can special order most books. They have some toys and gifts for kids. Masks and use of hand sanitizer is politely required.
