A number of years ago when unhappy with a local dry cleaners, I found what was then Crystal Cleaners. They have been nothing but exceptional! The quality of dry cleaning, removing unremovable stains, and having items ready on time. They're also a very nice husband and wife team. With the Crystal City Underground shops closing by the end of 2024, I feared they would close. In fact, like the Phoenix they rose again in a new, better location, and a new name -- Pentagon Row Cleaners. Pentagon Row Cleaners is (as of 2024) under new management; my comments pertain to the new management, which moved from a previous location. I have been going to this dry cleaner for years because their work and their tailoring is absolutely phenomenal! They're so good that when the new management moved to the Pentagon Row location this year, I followed them. Most recently they restored a wool suit that had been stained, and their tailoring has allowed me to salvage quite a few pieces of clothing. They clean my suits flawlessly every time--even though I usually request same-day service--and over the years, not a single piece has been lost. So as a dry cleaner this place is insanely expensive, like i look at the people who go there and think "are you millionaires? do you not know cheaper dry cleaners exist?" and once i was like "maybe its amazing and worth it" and guess what, it was really just run of the mill and unexceptional in the world of cleaning. BUT where they shine is their tailor- she is *amazing* and i mean *amazing*- her prices run from "fair" to "this is a tad more than i want to pay but i know she will do a great job, so i will deal with it." And honestly, she has never let me down and I have thrown a lot her way, from indian clothes to moroccan kaftans to hemming jeans and pants and dresses (at 5'2 even petite clothes need to be hemmed for me :) She is pretty fast, there is a changing room for you to try things on and she is easy to communicate with. I have been going to this place since it opened since it so close to my apartment. Two weeks ago I dropped off my mother's jeans to be hemmed. I walked in, showed the jeans and asked how much it would cost. The lady said $15, which I paid. When my mother brought the jeans home a week later, I was shocked to see that they hemmed the jeans as they would normal pants. Mom does not speak English, so said nothing but was very sad that the jeans looked horrible. I went back to talk to the seamstress. She said that she asked me which hemming I wanted and that I told her I did not want the jeans hemming. Which is not true. I did not even think they would hem Levi's as they would wool pants. We never had this discussion. She never told me that was separate price for jeans hemming. The lady said she'd talk to the manager and that I'd need to come back in two days, she kept the jeans. I went back today. The seamstress just made the stitch narrower but the jeans still do not look like jeans anymore. A gentleman to whom I tried to talk, which I presume is the owner, told me that they did not guarantee the quality because they cannot find the same thread - he did not even try to understand what was going on and left to deal with another customer. So I lost the $15 and what I paid for mom's jeans. The seamstress just said she was sorry and waited for me to leave. read more

I guess the honeymoon had to end at some point. The doubts first crept in about a month ago when I picked up a skirt that was still dirty. Then, the night before my husband's grandmother's 93rd birthday party, I was stunned to discover that the dress I was planning to wear hadn't been cleaned. I don't mean clean well, I mean clean at all; the stains were from things I eat all the time (very sloppily, obviously) and would have come out easily. I had to make at least one attempt at saving the relationship, and I'm glad I did. Called at 8 am to ask that the dress be cleaned again, dropped it off at 8:45, and picked it up at 10. My faith hasn't been restored completely, but I have hope, at least for now, that we can work through our problems. read more

Had my comforter cleaned here, and $40 later I received my comforter back with much of the stitching destroyed. I pointed this out to them and they offered to fix it. Once they finished I received an incredibly amateur repair job. I practically paid $40 to destroy my comforter. I've had to purchase a new one. I should have listened to the reviews. This is the worst cleaners I've ever used. My comforter is completely destroyed. There are multiple stains all over the comforter. The diagonal stitching is ripped in several locations. The stuffing is bunched, not smooth like it should be. They are extremely expensive. Do not use them. I created a yelp account for the sole purpose of documenting my experience at Pentagon Row Cleaners yesterday. I have been a customer for over 10 years and I will not give one more dime to this establishment. I dropped off my dry cleaning on a Saturday morning before 930AM to ensure I can receive same day service. When I came back to pick up the dry cleaning at around 5PM, I noticed a big 20% off sign on the window and that the receipt I received did not include the discount. I ask the older Asian lady why I hadn't received the discount and she lies and says - oh the discount should have been applied when you dropped off in the morning. If that's the case, that's your employee's fault and not mine. I didn't see the sign in the morning when I dropped off my clothes. If you have a sign up that applies to all customers for all types of service, then you should be responsible for applying the discount. The customer should not have to tell you to apply it. So after I tell the lady that there's no mention of when the discount has to be applied on the sign, she then lies again and tells me it does not apply to same day service. Again, this is nowhere on the sign. As I've been a customer for well over 10 years, I've seen the sign before and it has always been automatically applied. The lies you told today will have me taking my business elsewhere. I'm not sure if the 20% "sale" is a sign of decreases in sales, but either way, blatantly lying to customers will have you going out of business. Do better! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Exorbitant prices and HORRIBLE customer service! Ruined my dress shirt with a huge rip and said that I brought it in that way. When you consider that neither I, my wife nor the person accepting my shirt noticed this HUGE rip it sort of strains credulity. So, in summary: chargehigh prices and then blame the victim of their mistakes to avoid any liability for that mistake. Go ANYWHERE else. I called Pentagon Row Cleaners to see what they're estimated quote was to hem (just shorten the length of) a bridesmaid dress.They told me it would be around $20-45. When I went in, they told me it would be $65! I thought that was outrageous and asked why, and they said it was because my dress has 3 layers. The three layers are VERY THIN and it's nothing complicated. Most bridesmaid dresses have 2-3 layers anyways. I knew it was a complete rip off but I had no choice because my car broke down and the wedding was the following weekend. All the other bridesmaid I talked to said theirs cost around $15-20. On top of rippig you off, the lady that works at the register and answers the phone is completely rude. She yelled at me and gave me an attitude even though I was polite the whole time. My friend went there to hem her pants, and she told me she had a similar experience as well. Horrible experience - I will never go back to them again. read more

I think they abuse their privilege of being located on Pentagon Row, next to two TDY filled employees with dry cleaner allowance. It is very expensive for the quality of work. Medicore at best, often poor, this time is the last straw. They lost 5 of 6 buttons off my girlfriend's suit, then would not own up to it. "It came in like that" is all they would say, which is not true. No relief, no discount, no admission of guilt. They skate by on their location, and this is not the first time we've had problems. My prices here are high but nothing outrageous considering the area and convenience. However, after using this dry cleaner for several years, I have given up on them. I've had over half a dozen nice work dresses come back with huge parts of the hem undone. A few of them were several years old so it's somewhat understandable at first, but I buy pretty high quality work dresses so it shouldnt be happening this often, particularly with my new dresses. What I find most frustrating is that they don't fix them or alert me that they need to be fixed. This place destroys clothes. I used to go here a lot because it was so conveniently located. But the last couple of batches of clothes I had cleaned here came back RUINED. My very expensive, new wool pants came back with holes in the crease. Three expensive wool and cashmere sweaters were returned to me full of holes! I was so upset. My dry cleaning experience was fine/standard, but when a problem arose they make it clear they don't give a damn about customer satisfaction. Also their alteration skills are poor. I had them hem a pair of denim and when I tried them on the hem was wavy and curling. They told me they could not fix it and did not want to refund my money. Then the lady/owner made some very unprofessional and rude comments to me because I was insistent that the work was not okay. If you want to earn people's money then you need to be prepared to do good work. To their credit and after much persistence on my part, she eventually did refund my money (after removing the stitches of the hem). I went over to Nordstrom and the professional tailors there knew what to do to properly hem denim with stretch. I won't be going back due to their lack of responsibility and bad attitude. read more

I have been coming here for about six years now, and truly have had a bad experience yet. Sometimes, I do get items back that clearly w cleaned, but a faint reminisce of the stain is still there. Also, I took something there at ten in the morning once, and asked for same day service, which they offer for drop offs before nine. They wouldn't accommodate. I figured for the number of items I have taken there over the years, they could find a way to dry clean one suit by five pm, but I guess not. I took my silk shirt here to get cleaned. When I picked it up the silk was puckered everywhere. When I asked them what happened and why it was like this they gave me 3 different reasons...I dropped it off that way, my skin stretched it out, and because it was silk and that is what happens. When I asked if it could be fixed they said no and offered no reconciliation. I then asked for a refund and they refused. After much verbal exchange between myself and the two store owners I told them I was going to report them for bad business practices. They finally refunded me the $5.25 by shoving it in my hand. After I left the woman followed me out to my car calling me dirty and said that I dress dirty and that is why my shirt is that way. I have never been treated this way by any merchant and feel humiliated and harassed. Besides being very expensive they are rude and have no respect for a paying customer. I strongly advise you do not bring your clothes here...you too may be harassed for wearing sweat pants an uggs on a Saturday morning. read more
