Very good food, friendly staff. Place is a little small for eating in, but has charm with old Hollywood decor.

I ate at Penny's Pit for the first time today with my husband and son. We chose this place because of all the awesome reviews and it did not disappoint. It's a pretty small place...easy to miss between a gas station and laundromat. We were the first ones in there when they opened, but they quickly filled up. The one and only server kept up with the crowd and did a phenomenal job. He was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. We each had different burgers, which were all cooked well and tasted delicious (and apparently cooked by the owner himself, so kudos to you!). The fries were crispy and hot. The menu has a nice variety. Obviously they offer delicious burgers, but also chicken sandwiches and salads, which are probably also awesome. The kids menu is pretty standard. The food was great. Our service was outstanding. The server was simply superb. It was obvious from the moment that we walked in to Penny's Pit that this is little gem in Rathdrum. Best way to end the day after running around an amusement park all day (Silverwood). Had 5 hungry kids and 4 hungry and thirsty adults. Got there 40 mins before they close and they we experienced the best service from the husband and wife team and we stayed past closing. Good was great, had the riveter sandwich. Excellent!! Kids meals were great and priced below a happy meal. Will be back the next time we are in town. read more

Today my family and I were really looking forward to having a good American Hamburger from Penny's Pit but we were Denied service because we had 6 people! We understand that Covid-19 brings difficult circumstances to the Mom&Pop food industry and things have been financially SLOW!!! We pray for all business to return back to normal so these struggles will soon pass! We were completely ok with eating seperate as FDA requires limited seating for family occupants ... We also traveled in seperate vehicles and were completely ok eating seperate from each other to enjoy your food... We were treated rudely and were accused of being rude to staff. We are responsible, respectable and also local business owners. Please don't think All staff at Penny's Pit is like this and more importantly food has always been Good and satisfying! The fries have a light speckled coating of beer batter on them to make them extra crunchy. Worth the drive from CDA for sure. Great burgers, even better service, and you can't beat their huckleberry lemonade! As with many of the restaurants in the area, this place is small, locally owned, with a focus on the food and the service. You won't leave Penny's hungry, their burgers are all a generous portion of ground beef and they have a number of different combinations to cover just about any flavor you crave. Don't expect to get your burger within minutes of ordering, this place cooks to order and it shows, perfectly cooked and juicy patties topped with fresh ingredients and a large soft bun is a recipe for success. My suggestion, make sure you get more of the house sauce on the side because I could just drink that stuff on its own! Their fries are crispy and delicious as they should be. Have to start a separate paragraph for the huckleberry lemonade, this stuff is amazing! The service is also a home run. You never know what your going to get with a small space that's packed full of people and 2 servers. But these 2 servers were moving! They were johnny on the spot with refills, extra ketchup etc, all the while jumping on newly empty tables flipping them for more customers. Staff had a warm smile and was helpful throughout our meal. All in all one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. One in our group also got the naked lady, a huge chicken breast topped with cheese, mushrooms, BBQ sauce over lettuce and they raved about it, so even if you have a burger holdout don't let that stop you from enjoying Penny's read more

This is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. 50's culture theme. They usually have a good selection of beer on tap, and the service is usually pretty good. The food is THE reason to visit. Absolutely the best variety of 'signature' type hamburgers in Rathdrum and the surrounding area. The atmosphere is pleasant with seating at half a dozen tables or the 4-5 seats up at the 'bar'. It's hidden a bit in a strip-style-shopping location but that doesn't detract from the experience; pleasant people, good food and congenial service that you would expect. They were not lying. Have the Elvis burger, it is so damn good. I had it the first time I was there. I'm determined to have everything there now that I live nearby. Food might be ok, I was so angry that I left before I tried it. Service and policy was awful. With 3 open tables, and no one waiting, I was forbidden from sitting at a table in case more people came in. It was clear that I wasn't welcome, so I took my food, left my beer, and departed. I guess they would rather alienate existing customers in the hopes of getting future customers. They just lost this customer for good. I can't imagine this is good business practice, I guess they have too many customers to care. Apparently, you need to come in with two friends if you want to be welcomed. I won't be back. read more

Food is pretty good but not stellar ( This could be due to the fact that everyone has hyped it up and talked about how "amazing" it was) My server was nice to me (we didn't interact much), however she seemed to be a bit rude to the other customers. Especially when telling things like where the restroom was. She also didn't seem to know the drink selection or menu too well. And am I the only one who has noticed that the burgers seem to be getting smaller and less of high quality but the prices seem to increase?!?! Overall service was meh, burgers were that of O'Malleys down the street but more spendy so ok. Not sure if I would come again or not.
