Unbelievable service and exceptional food. Stumbled across this place while yelping for a local burger place while visiting Idaho. When we pulled up it was unassuming and we almost missed it. The decor, super wonderful service, and food was amazing. What a gem in this little quaint town. We ordered the Riveter, Frank Sinatra , and Ricardo burgers...DELICIOUS. 11 of my friends went to try out the burgers and celebrate a birthday. Management made a waitress tell us that unless the 11 of us could fit at two table we would have to leave. The reasoning that was stated was that their dinner rush was about to come in, at 3:00pm, and they didn't want us taking up the tables. Even though we were paying customers. We were told to leave before we were even able to sit down. Their reasoning was ridiculous and we were told basically that other people that were not even there were more welcome than we were. It was also unprofessional as the manager sent the waitress to talk with us and did not come out to discuss this with us personally. We will never be back. read more

Completely unexpected deliciousness! It's kind of like Wisconsinburger except that this place is yummy and friendly and affordable and unpretentious and a place you'd actually *want* to go. We came in expecting a good burger, wound up with a GREAT one! Small and cozy atmosphere, very clean and not overly cluttered. Service was quite friendly and efficient. Burgers are off the charts awesome. There's a distinct quality to fresh meat that's been char broiled. I was worried when they said they cook their burgers to medium that it would be too dry and chewy. This was not the case as both our James Dean and John Wayne burgers were hot, juicy, and delicious. Fries were average but became awesome under a layer of cheddar and bacon. It's worth both the drive and the price. It's even worth a special trip. read more

Awesomeness!! My husband tried Penny's Pit last week on his lunch break. He came home raving about how great his burger & fries were. I'm thinking to myself..." how different can one burger be from another"? Well, let me tell you they cannot all be treated the same. He took me there for lunch yesterday & everything was fabulous. I ordered the Marilyn with fries. My husband had the James Dean & fries. The fries are seasoned to perfection & crisp , also could be considered addictive if your a french fry lover like me. My burger was so fresh & juicy without being the least bit soggy. It had a homemade thousand island type spread on the bun, with crisp lettuce, fresh red onion, cheese & extra pickles. So Gormet in every way! Penny's Pit is very small but oh so quaint, and you can tell that the owners are big on quality ingredients . I can't wait for our next lunch date at Penny's Pit!! read more

Burgers are awesome. They do tend to cook them to the medium rare side, so if you are freaked out about pink burgers, request it to be well done. 4 stars because it does take a bit to get the meal. This is a fantastic little burger joint that features some exotic burgers and good old fashioned, great-tasting burgers. Their French Fries also come on a variety of styles. Their regular fries are fantastic. I really liked the burgers because of the taste and quality, but also because they are not greasy like other gourmet burger establishments. As many people, we 'believed' the reviews posted online only to learn that negative reviews are not posted without repercussions: the people stating negative opinions are banned or harassed by 'Loyal Customers' for stating their actual experiences. I hope this isn't the 'real' truth when posting a negative review. Today, we visited Penny's Pit and ordered two burgers, the Presley and the Ricardo, a soda and a glass of water. Our experience began with an over the top enthused waitress. When the order arrived, the burgers 'looked' good having adequate hamburger patties. Where the problem arose was with the jalapeno quantity on the Ricardo. Now, I love jalapeno and can eat them forever but this burger set me back. The grilled jalapenos were stacked more than a half inch thick, enough so that they readily fell out of the burger, making it an order of jalapenos with a burger chaser. After about 4 bites, I had to pull off half the remaining jalapenos to 'taste' the burger itself. Truthfully, the burger was good although the excessive grease ran down my hand forcing me to use 5 napkins with eating only half of the burger. The bun got wet real fast which wasn't pleasant. The Presley was the biggest issue. It was 'piled high' with mushrooms which for a mushroom lover was very appealing until eating the second bite. The mushrooms had so much garlic mixed with them that it ruined the burger. The amount of garlic was nauseating! How I know is after the remaining mushrooms were scrapped off the burger, I took a fork to 'test' them myself. Initially, I thought my friend's reaction may be a bit superficial but after eating the ONE bite of mushrooms and waiting less than a minute, the after taste nearly ruined my lunch. I had to drink a lot of water to wash the excess garlic from my mouth. Even after removing the mushrooms, the burger was so garlic ridden that the burger could not be totally consumed. When the waitress came over, I shared with her our experiences and she was 'shocked' because 'no one' has ever had even one bad word to say about their burgers! With that response, we ordered a to-go box for the remaining food (to see if we could salvage some of it at home). Being frugal, I couldn't see tossing it all since it did cost just pennies under $25 for the one soda and two burgers. Although the business principal is good, for a business not to 'hear' their customers legitimate concerns, not to 'test' or sample the reason for the complaint or even say one word in support of the customer's experience, I must take an exception. No, the customer isn't always right and everyone has their own 'taste' structure and levels. BUT, having the experience we did for what is claimed as an 'awesome' place, this is NOT acceptable. It can't be only one way. Bottom line, I hope the comments get read by those interested in learning about their food. It would also be important that Penny's Pit start 'listening' to their customers and adjusting where necessary or they are rewarded with wiser and fewer return customers. OK, this place was talked up to me by my father in law. He told me it was going to be a great little stop and we had to try it. You never know until you get there, but this place was a real keen spot. It's small, but plenty big enough for what it is, a little burger spot/bar. Their menu is just right, not too big and not too small. Clever names involving classic singers and other fun blasts from the past. I had "The Riveter". Words cannot describe this wonderful cheesy, jalapeno filled, oniony, patty melt-like creation. It is simply wonderful. They find a way to make a shell of cheddar cheese on the outside and the spicy kick makes it stand out. I also got the garlic parmesan cheese fries and boy they were more than I expected. They were covered in cheese and wonderfulness. I would definitely order this again. The rest of the food we ordered was just as wonderful. They even have salads for those of you who are into that kinda thing, but let me tell you, these salads are monsters of greatness! You will probably need to take some home. This place is a real deal Burger joint! Had the Jame's Dean double meat, cheese, bacon burger. This is a burger when eating the massive mammoth you need some elbow room. That first bite of peer flavor goodness. The crunch of bacon, melted cheese and juice running out of both beef patties. The fries, what can I say. Hands down on the batter seasoned fries. I have to give a star review but I wish I didn't. I see that everyone loves this place and I just didn't see it. Almost everything about this place was the reason I gave I 1 star. We ordered drinks and and the orange Fanta tasted like rootbeer, so we asked for water and they still charged us for the soda. They are not prepared to have multiple people order the same thing. A great combination of meat and veggies, and it held together really well. The fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. The service: I was the only person in here around 4 pm. I walked to the bar to place my order for my food and my beer, not a big deal. Once the food came out, the server never checked in on me to see how everything was. I don't require a lot of attention as far as service goes, but if your are someone who would be offended by not having an attentive server, this place may not be for you. This was my third and last time here, my sweetie was hungry, we should have waited until we got to Spokane Valley. I have always had mediocre food here, even though they always get great reviews and for some reason unbeknownst to me my sweetie likes this place and Messy's in Spirit Lake. Once again our Burgers were lifeless and semi warm. The Fries Ho Hum and the service is non existent, sweetie said she enjoyed her food. I for one along with a few other friends can't believe that the general public can enjoy dives like this and Messy's, no ambience, poor service, expensive for what you receive and not a place that cares about their customers unless they know you. So I was cruising Yelp looking for something different for lunch today. I saw this place and had to try it as soon as I saw the photos of the burgers. I am always up for a good burger. I jumped in the car and drove from Cd'A to Rathdrum. I was surprised to find it in the gas station mini mall. I was pleased to find it was a clean, well decorated mini pub. We were greeted pleasantly and our menus and drink orders were taken. I was very hungry so I ordered the James Dean. Two 1/4 patties, double cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickle, onion and house sauce. I was not disappointed! A very tall, hot fresh burger arrived along with a good portion of fries. The toppings were all fresh and crisp and I could tell immediately that they used fresh burger. My absolute favorite part is they put a great sear on the burger that you so rarely get these days. That itself bumped it to 5 stars! On the way out I noticed a lunch special that was not in the menu. $4.99 for a cheeseburger and fries. It looked like a great portion size for lunch and you can't beat the price.
