Birthday Flowers in the Age of COVID-19 - Somethings in life must be celebrated on time regardless of surrounding risks. So it was that a bouquet of fresh cut flowers were required to honor my wife's birthday in the middle of a quarantine stay at home order. Roses didn't feel spontaneous enough, nor as crazy ebullient as the moment needed. No, the creative hand of a true florist and flora lover was the way to go. I used the third party online vendor I had worked with before, but to my good fortune they subbed out to Penny's in Glenside for execution. They were on time and on my wavelength. We left the package on the porch for a day out of an abundance of caution to allow any Covid cooties to be rendered inert. When we brought it inside to the kitchen, and unbound its wrapping, we beheld a riot of daisies, sunflowers, zinnias, red carnations, a few gorgeous coral roses and dried sinuatum. They were soft to touch and scented like the dawn of Spring. Most importantly, they generated the emotional response I was hoping for from the object of my affections. She kvelled like a purring kitten, and treated me like I was the celebrant, not her. Just as it should be. Penny's had it exactly right. I now have a new florist. read more

Not only was that incredibly kind, that's a sign of a good leader. Heather took accountability for the mistake and asked me what can be done to make it better. She understood that a wedding is a pretty big deal and when things don't go as you planned, it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. These folks were life savers. I had ordered flowers through FTD. com and somehow there was a discrepancy in the delivery address. If it had not been for the courtesy call they made to me to confirm the delivery, the error would had not been caught in time. Not only did they address the error, but they even had the delivery driver retrieve the flowers and deliver them to the correct address. I sent flowers to my sister on the day of her surgery and was very specific for an elegant and fragrant arrangement of blue and white. Over two hundred dollars of flowers and asked to have them delivered AT 1:30 in the afternoon and they said no problem this was for my daughters wedding shower Big bouquet for my daughter smaller bouquets for my wife, sister in law and my future mother in law and the single roses for the brides maids. I've used Penny's for forty years but ran into a problem with the first flowers I had delivered under the new owners (Penny's was sold in August 2018). Without telling me, Glenside Penny's farmed out the design and delivery to a florist in Norristown, PA, owned by the new owners of Penny's. The quality of the design was really lacking, the arrangements (there were three of them) were lopsided, small and used cheap flowers. I was afraid that under new ownership, I couldn't count on the high quality that Penny's has always been known for. Credit to Penny's, though. I called and told them about my experience and they fixed it immediately: new arrangements delivered to replace the bad arrangements and a discount to my bill for my trouble. Mistakes happen and that's frustrating. But a really good merchant will make things right. That's (still) Penny's. read more

Paid 95 dollars for a bouquet for a friend's grandmother that passed away, and it looked like it was worth $35 on a good day. We called and asked rectification as the people took a picture of the bouquet and we could see it was not worth $95. We spoke to Penny's and they were going to take the bouquet back, and send another one. We were appalled that this was given as a rectification of the issue. We settled on a 25 dollar credit, but would never use this place again, as it is a rip off and when you have a problem; they offered ridiculous solutions. How could you return a bouquet that was sent and replace it with another one. Who does that? read more
