Got the place almost to myself!

I've loved this place for years. Hard to believe that I haven't reviewed it before. Best burger in town, in a town full of really good burgers. The inside is spruced up these days, and the parking lot is usually full of work trucks. Takeout is fast and service is always prompt and usually cheerful. The menu is "diner-meets-Appalachian-bistro" and reasonably priced. Nathan's hot dogs, all the breakfast things, soup beans & cornbread, chicken fried & Salisbury steaks, fried bologna sandwiches, and the next thing in my hitlist (if I can ever NOT get a burger here) is the pork tenderloin sandwich.

We went to this place while in town visiting ETSU. We decided to give it a try based on its Google and Yelp reviews. OMG - very pleased is an understatement! This place was great in every way! Deliciousness - food, service, atmosphere, and pricing!

Yummy food home cooked at its best. Service was great. Philly cheesesteak was stuffed full with sliced beef. She just keeps saying "Delicious ". Bacon cheeseburger was excellent. Made with hand made patties. Must be at least a half pound. We'll be back. Great price for what you get.

Breakfast of grits, eggs, crispy bacon, biscuit and gravy with sausage crumbles on top.

Yet another discovery... and the first impression is... a good one. All in all this seems to be an old locally owned spot fixing good to really good food at reasonable prices - what more could you want? Except maybe that they were open past 3pm... I'll be back either way. The place was very busy at about 10:45 am Friday morning. It's an older building and interior which looks to have been "rode hard and put up wet" more than a few times. Located across street from a sign reading "Girls, girls, girls", I wasn't sure what to expect. After getting inside and eating, several words come to mind: breakfast, lunch, dive, good (all meant with positive tone). I ate the breakfast and I'd call it above average. Although the biscuit wasn't made in-house it was good. I wanted sausage gravy which theirs was not, but they happily offered to crumble some over top which got me the fix I was looking for. I asked for crispy bacon and I got excellently prepared really good crispy bacon. I asked for eggs over medium well and that's what I got too! Grits in a bowl were a good portion- a little on the watery side but flavor was fine. The coffee was coffee. Not Starbucks, but hot, good coffee. The comment I heard from the other side of the table about the hamburger (which had BBQ sauce and onion rings on it among other things) was that it was "pretty good"... and coming from who said it, that means "above average".

Wanting to be considerate of the staff, I called ahead to see if we could place an order in advance without causing them to stay open longer than necessary. Alecia, the restaurant manager, handled the call with both professionalism and thoughtful attention. After asking about our expected arrival time, she explained that she would time the preparation of the order so the food would be served hot and at its best quality when we arrived. She also informed us that Zack in the bar would assist us since the bar remained open later. Her approach reflected a clear commitment to both customer service and the integrity of their dining experience. Upon arrival, everything was exactly as described. Alecia ensured our order was ready and confirmed that Zack would take care of us going forward. Both Alecia and Zack were courteous, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout the interaction. Their efforts stood out in a time when exceptional service can feel uncommon. I would confidently recommend The Carnegie Hotel and Wellington's to others based on the level of care and professionalism demonstrated by their staff.

We parked at cookout across the str7as they don't open up till later. My spouse had coffee and ice water with lemon and I wanted to warm up with a hot chocolate with whipped cream and a small OJ. I ordered two crepe-like chocolate chip stuffed with strawberries and topped with whipped cream and powered sugar. It was delicious, two was the right amount of food. I had a side order of bacon (3 slices). My spouse had the meat lovers breakfast with sausage, bacon, country ham, two eggs, wheat toast and a side order of hash brown casserole. The pancakes were dry. I would expect them to be light and fluffy. I asked for very crispy hash browns and they were definitely not. The waitress wasn't concerned with our table in the least. She took our order brought our drinks and food and that's it. We were right outside the kitchen yet I had to go to the front to the counter to get our ticket, pay it and get a togo box. The only thing good was my omelet and I could have made that at home.
