Took a friend here after church today and we will be back. It has a vibe for sure and its cozy. As an interior designer, I can tell you that what you see when you first walk in the door really sets the tone for the meal. Best news -- the food was just as good as the setting. No hostess for the first 2-3 minutes but that was ok as we looked around. When we were seated, a young lady arrived at our table to take drink orders and hand us 3 separate menus. There was a standard offering menu, a brunch and a seasonal menu. We went straight for the seasonal menu! Drinks arrived in pristine cut glass and quickly. When we finally made decisions on what tempted us most - it was hard! Hubby opted for a smoked turkey sandwich on toast. Fresh and full of flavor with a hefty helping of turkey. My friend and I both opted for the Autumn salad with candied pecans, dried cranberries, butternut squash cubes, fried goat cheese medallions and added highly seasoned chicken to the mix. Straight from the seasonal menu which only lasts 2 more weeks. Not much talking after the food arrived but we loved all the flavors. Everything is a la carte, so knowing that helps a lot. Still a good value for the money and everything tasted well seasoned and fresh. We will most definitely return soon. This is Midlothian? read more

Will never come here again. Didn't even get to try the food because we made a reservation and they gave our table to someone else and made zero accommodations for us. Why would someone make a reservation to sit there and wait? Other parties that came after us were seated immediately. No manager talked to us. We left feeling incredibly disrespected, like our business didn't matter to them. I'm not sure if it was something about us personally, but I've never been treated like that at a restaurant I have a reservation at. read more

Today, was my first time eating at Penn to Paper in Midlothian. Upon entry to the restaurant, a warm and cozy atmosphere! Very Classy Decor! Food Superior! Cocktails Spectacular! The vibe is upscale but the prices don't say that. The portions are perfect. The menu looks great, not too many random options. It seems like what they do, they do well. Perfect spot for a date night, lunch and a few drinks. I will most definitely be back. read more

This place is great. I recommend an off time because they are busy and start to fall apart. The smoked ribs are a must have! It's got a great vibe. The food I've tried there has been mostly good. The reason I didn't give it a higher score is because our particular server was more concerned about serving her friends. Hopefully that part will get better. The food is excellent though read more

Food was delicious. Had the fried dill pickles, Texas Twinkie's , baby back ribs, French dip, steak w/peppercorn sauce and chicken fried brisket. Everyone was happy service was good and ambiance historical....nice evening. read more

Penn to Paper has potential, but my experience was a bit mixed. We opted to sit at the bar, and while the bartender was kind and definitely knew their way around a cocktail shaker, they seemed overwhelmed. Oddly enough, there were plenty of staff around, yet service still lagged. Drinks came out solid, but the food experience fell short, especially considering the wait. Drinks Blackberry Mule - 5/5. Refreshing, not overly gingery. Honestly one of the highlights. House Margarita - 3/5. Meh. Drinkable, but tasted more like pre-made marg mix than a crafted cocktail. Peach Me Up - 4/5. Seasonal specialty and very good (and strong!). Docking a star because there was something spicy in mine that shouldn't have been, and it made me have a reaction. Food Cuban Sandwich - 3.5/5. Flavor was on point, but after the long wait, it arrived at room temp. Not exactly the payoff I was hoping for. Fries were solid though, lightly seasoned with a sweet/savory balance. Mac & Cheese - 2/5. Creamy texture, noodles cooked well, but absolutely no flavor. Needed serious help in the seasoning department. Chicken Fried Brisket - 3/5. Cool concept, but again, room temp and bland. Mashed potatoes looked (and tasted) like something from a hospital tray - slopped on with zero seasoning. Not appetizing. Tempura Brussels Sprouts - 5/5. Surprisingly excellent! Crispy, flavorful, and the standout from the food menu. All in all, Penn to Paper is aight. The drinks are worth coming back for (especially the mule and whatever's on the seasonal menu), but I'd hope next time the food arrives hot and with some seasoning. Right now, it feels like a better spot for cocktails than a full meal. read more

We had a large party of 18 for Sunday 3/29. We had a reservation & were sat pretty quickly on the patio. The ambiance is very good. I got the hen blt from the featured menu, the chicken was fine, but there was way too much honey mustard sauce on the sandwich, and the bread was not the right match for the sandwich. The snapper tacos were very meh, not a lot of flavor & they were tiny, The chips & queso were good. I do think it's odd that sides were additional cost for a sandwich. read more

Really nice new upscale restaurant in downtown Midlothian! This is the perfect place for date night. Decor is cute, they use real crystal for the water glasses and pretty clean inside. Servers flip tables quickly which was great. The burgers were FANTASTIC, buns were delicious, sweet potatoes fries (10/10), the brisket was a little dry and our food did come with a hair in it. The burnt ends were absolutely fantastic. It wasn't what we were use to but so much more. Nothing comes with a side which is a huge flaw as each a La carte side is $5+ each. I would recommend the cooks wearing hair nets as we clearly saw none of them were wearing them. Food took awhile to come out and it is a bit overpriced but I would recommend it! read more

Penn to Paper had been sitting on my saved list for months, so when a longtime friend sent a dinner invite and this was the location, I was genuinely excited. From the moment I pulled into the parking lot, I knew it was a vibe. The warm welcome upon walking in, paired with the attentive, almost VIP-level service at the bar, immediately set the tone for the evening. Every step of the experience felt intentional. From the cocktails to the appetizers and then dinner, everything flowed beautifully. I found myself already planning a return visit with my husband before the night was over. Penn to Paper is the kind of place that makes you feel welcomed, relaxed, and well taken care of. It's an experience worth savoring, and I'm already looking forward to coming back. read more

So impressed! Atmosphere is great, the place looks great and the service was awesome. I got the smash burger and fries and both were soooo good. The smash burger wasn't much smashed but it was tasty. The fries had a combination of salty and sweet. If you've had wingstop, you know what I mean. read more

We have been to Penn to Paper twice now and both times were great experiences. We enjoyed our Anniversary dinner here with a great dinner and dessert (Creme Brulee). and then we met some friends here and enjoyed the patio...for a little while until it started raining really hard and our waitress was able to move us inside on a busy night to finish our meal. The service has always been superb and the food delicious! Ive had the 2 meat plate with brisket and turkey and potato salad and also a stuffed baked potato with all the fixings. MY husband has had the bacon wrapped filet and Chicken fried Chicken, both very good. They make a great old fashioned. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Parking is street parking and nearby lots. Great place to try out and make a regular stop for lunch or dinner! read more

Loved the downtown area of Midlothian and this place was a great option for Saturday lunch. Nice service staff and love the decor. The menu has interesting options and that Mac n Cheese alone is worth all of the stars. Really enjoyed the fried pickles, too. I wasn't a fan of the tempura Brussels sprouts and the Smashed burger was overcooked. (But I'm willing to admit that it may be time for me to admit that I'm not a smashed burger fan since I'm usually disappointed.) All in all, though, I want to go back to try other things on this menu! read more

This place is a very comfortable place for big groups- but also great for a date night. We do have to make a reservation since we are a larger than normal group but they accommodate us well. The service is on target and honestly the food is amazing! I get the bbq pork on my baked potatoes as my regular and I love it! read more

Penn to Paper was such a great find! We came in and got seated immediately. The service was fantastic! We got drinks and some Smokin' Cuban sandwiches. They were out pretty quick. The ingredients were fresh, the brisket was cooked beautifully, and the home made mustard was a great flavor accent! I got the fries too and they were cooked well and seasoned nicely! Great location, great service, great food! read more

I've lived in the neighborhood a little over a year and am upset at myself for not having Penn To Paper from the start. This has became one of my favorite spots hands down , not just in Midlothian but in DFW. Every meal I've had here has been top tier in each of their classes. From the brisket salad to their twist on a Philly cheesesteak, and don't forget to get some fried Oreos for your sweet tooth. Every time our service has been amazing, it definitely feels like a small family when coming in, the atmosphere carry's an upscale but southern vibe I love this place and will continue to come back. read more

We absolutely love this place for date night!! The customer service is always amazing, and the food tastes amazing. I still dream of the food we had there and can't wait to go back soon. The food was great, service was good and the ambiance was nice! It's good to have a nice restaurant in our town.

Very good service. Good atmosphere. Food was delicious- however I had the shrimp tacos - should have been an appetizer- only 1 shrimp per taco! I left hungry and I am not a person with a big appetite! The others in our group had an ample sized meal. read more

Overall experience was fine. Food was hit or miss. I enjoyed the salmon, fried pickles, drinks, but the burger was just fine. Just go to branded burger. The deviled eggs really sucked. Ambiance is mostly just okay... there are these awful high backed booths and then a really awkward curtain to the bar area. read more

This restaurant got us through two weeks of moving to Midlothian. The food and service are a solid four stars. Here's the thing about the fifth star being withheld. The salmon was cooked fairly well most times but the crispy skin and still glistening just didn't happen on the same piece of fish at the same time. The veggies served with and clearly stated that they were included were not a large enough portion to be listed vaguely included. The first time that I complained the waitperson came back and said the cook said they were a garnish not a side. Oh ok my mistake. So I paid for a side which came cold then on another occasion the size of the garnishes (well not quite that bad ) but since I was paying for the sides which were priced like Nick and Sam's and mediocre--"Unlike Nick and Sam's. So four stars, note to the chef: believe it or not customers will pay more for reasonable quantities rather than reasonable prices then outrageous charges for the sides. It just kinda sucks. As if the patrons can't see the basic premise. That all said it was good for what we needed but we won't be back anytime soon. When I leave a restaurant I don't expect to still be hungry after eating my dinner. read more

Stopped into The District in Midlothian after a long afternoon of house shopping with my husband and sister because nothing fuels real estate decisions like hunger, dreams and hope. The place was fully booked, but the hostess saved the day and offered us lounge seating on the sofas. Honestly, it felt a little VIP...like we'd accidentally wandered into the cool kids' corner. I halfway considered putting on my sunglasses indoors just to commit to the moment, maybe even asking if they offered bottle service in the lounge. Within 10 minutes we were settled in and already getting excellent service. And as if the vibe wasn't good enough, there was a one‑man show crooning jazzy tunes in the background. He was smooth, talented, and added just the right soundtrack for an early dinner. Think "speakeasy energy," but suburban‑friendly. Now, the food. My husband ordered the Crunchy Pig sandwich, my sister went for the half rack of ribs, and I claimed the smoked turkey BLT. Everything hit the table about 20 minutes later, hot, fresh, and so lip‑smacking tasty that we inhaled every bite before remembering we meant to take pictures. My apologies to the food‑photo purists; trust me, the plates were camera‑ready before we destroyed them. If you find yourself wandering around The District in Midlothian, do yourself a righteous favor and grab a memorable meal here. Great food, great service, great music, and apparently great sofas. read more

Over priced food that is not worth the price at all and bad service. Way over priced and the drinks are not great. Live music was good and unique. Music was like jazz with violin and some sort of guitar. Group called Swingo Swango? Very cool music, but over all food and service was pretty poor. Might comeback for music and sit at the bar, but not for the food. read more

The young server, Mason is his name is a jerk. I have probably been there 40 to 50 times He could get nothing right, screwed up the ticket 3 times, had to have manager over. Told me I was disrespectful for asking him to come over to our table for another correction. He would be gone if he was my emoloyee. Had to ask for water, ketchup etc. Respectfully long time paytron. read more

Penn To Paper - 2 meat plate. Brisket, smoked Jalapeño cheddar sausage and potato salad - Barbeque Near Me - Midlothian, Texas

The good - service was prompt and attentive. Outdoor space uncrowned and fairly clean, though a constant very loud blower rolling. The food was well priced, but average nothing special. Wings were on the rubbery side not crispy. Brisket salad was mostly toppings, little lettuce. Brisket was flavorful but dry. Burger was very flavorful, and delicious, the burger bun was the best part - very good burger and bun. I had high expectations I guess. Visited 5/7/26. read more

Food, service and ambiance were all great! We went on a Friday night with our kids and sat on patio. The space pulls off both grown and sexy but also family friendly. There was a live saxophonist that was great. Food-wise we had wings and broccoli, burger and fries, chicken tenders and fries, and salmon with side of broccoli. I'm torn between getting the salmon again next time or trying something new. Definitely plan to go back kid-free to truly enjoy the cocktails. read more

The fried pickles were the best thing we had. Too much pork on the sandwich, the deviled eggs had nothing but eggs (no seasoning, no relish) and the turkey sandwich was dry. We had to add bbq sauce to everything. The creme brulee was good but the amout of creme vs brulee was misproportioned? read more

This is a great spot in a thriving little community. I've been twice and the service was excellent both times. The look & feel of the space vibes & there is good music playing. Love the drinking glasses. Chic & high end feeling. The pimento brisket sandwich with homemade BBQ sauce on a sweet bun was absolutely delicious. The smash burger is too. Loved the sweet potato fries & the trio sampler of queso, guac & artichoke dips with some homemade tortilla chips. Just a cool place with really good food, an extensive drink menu & friendly/professional service. Highly recommend this elevated space when in Midlothian. read more

Just went there to celebrate our 30 year anniversary. My filet was brought out rare when I requested medium. Happily sent it back but it came out a second time still rare. By the time I got it the 3rd time, the rest of my sides were gone. Also, an acknowledgment of our anniversary would have been nice since I put it in the notes with my reservation. Just kinda disappointed with the whole experience. read more

Stop taking reservations, you don't know how to manage them. Made a reservation two weeks prior. Arrived 15 minutes before our time and was never seated. Asked for the manager after waiting a 1/2 hour to learn we would never be seated. Very disappointed in front of house desk. If you let a customer sit at a table for 3 hours you have cut your profits big time and won't be in business for long. Tell customers to enjoy the bar so others can enjoy the menu. read more
