We came here because it is next to Pilot Travel Center that was a joke of Travel Center. I wanted something warm to eat. Pilot subway was closed. Came here and Got the full size Reuben sandwich for $13. The price for size of sandwich is a decent value. The sandwich was temperature hot. The cheese was stringy and gooey. The sauerkraut was warmed through and everything went well together. The bread was white though, but it held up. The meat did not have the right texture or flavor. Each time that I have had lunch here, there are few if any clean tables. Today, after paying for my sandwich I noticed that I was overcharged. A guy in a MAGA hat whom I presume to be the owner informed me that the bill was right but the prices on his sign are wrong. There was no apology and no attempt to make it right. Place was busy yesterday so I had hopes maybe it hadn't gotten better I was wrong. Ordered a large Philly extra meat extra cheese mayo and extra seasoning. Guess how many of those I got if you guessed none of the above you would be correct. Couldn't taste the seasoning on the meat which I found small pieces of bone in not kidding nearly broke my teeth biting into it and blank spots on my sandwich with nothing on it. I had all flavors at every bite. It was well wrapped, which made it easy to eat while multi-tasking. Delicious cheesesteaks, subs and salads! This ain't your cheeze whiz on a roll. "Purists" may have difficulty with that, but if you're up to expand your cheesesteak repertoire, step on up to the counter! Like most cheesesteaks, they'll start you off by slapping some thin steaks on the flat top grill in front of you. They'll beat and chop the hell out of it with spatulas as it grills to perfection, and sprinkle on some mystery seasoning. No need for meddling kids, you'll enjoy this mystery. Now the special happens. According to what kind of sandwich you've ordered, you have options. Cheesesteaks have the option of onions, mushrooms or banana peppers (all 3 please!), and dressed with your favorite condiment or pizza sauce (light mayo for me, it mixes with the steak juices and creates Wonder Sauce). Okay, okay, maybe it doesn't sound all that magical... but that's because you haven't tasted it all together with their amazing bread. Fresh baked rolls, perfectly crispy on the outside and nice and tender inside. Not too thick either. You're not jamming a handfull of roll in your mouth with a little meat. Basically the roll just gives your cheesesteak some delicious, crispy crust to hold onto as it holds everything together. Hey now, we can't have cheesesteaks without the cheese! As I said before, you won't find bubbling cauldrons of cheese whiz here. It's all fresh sliced deli cheese. Generally their cheesesteaks get provolone, which might I add melts perfectly and ties everything together really well. Plus you're not dripping trails of neon orange who-knows-what, and the flavor is subtle enough not to overpower the other ingedients while still having flavor of it's own. You really have to taste their cheesesteaks to understand the magic going on in there. They truly are more than just the sum of their parts. I haven't even mentioned their giant Dagwood sandwiches (tell 'em what you want and Blondie will keep on stacking 'til you're satisfied), their fresh squeezed lemonade (truly old fashioned), and fresh cut fries. Yes they'll pop a potato in the hopper, skin and all, then flash fry the strips. Malt vineagar is optional, but highly reccomended. They also have salad versions of many of their sandwiches if you're watching carbs. Today my wife and I visited the Penn Station off of 71/75 at the Richwood exit in KY. They left the whole store unattended for 10-15mins. My wife and I were going to ask for water but no one was available. Once someone finally came out from the back, I asked the cashier for water, he smiled at me as if I was lying and said, "you don't have to get water buddy" as he handed me the cups. The Philly cheese steak was excellent along with the fries. Both were made fresh, which makes the order take a little while but it was well worth the wait. The one thing I would caution is that no one wore gloves while cooking the food. It isn't terribly troubling for me since i travel out of the country frequently and eat but it can turn some customers away. read more

The staff is poorly trained and while not rude to me I witnessed them screwing up an easy order and getting an attitude with the gentleman that was upset about his order being messed up and it was supposedly a manager acting completely unprofessional. He actually laughed at the guy. Let's move on. The place is a mess. It is dirty, even the employees are dirty but mind you it was with sandwich making stuff so maybe that's normal. Unfortunately you can tell filthy is normal here as the card reader machine was so dirty nobody wants to touch it. This is clearly a representation of an absentee owner or any true management. Stopped in here for lunch because we had a coupon, always been a pricey restaurant but with the coupon was worth making the trip, unfortunately we were very disgusted with the prep of the food. No gloves were used and every cook including the so called manager grabbed the meat with their bare hands especially after running their hands through their own hair and the manager dealing with money. Very unclean and health hazardous, I know for a fact that this is against Health code and should be reported as well. Will add more if sickness follows. Stopped in tonight to grab a to go order, and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. No worries, I had time. So I went ahead and ordered, it didn't seem too busy. Apparently there was some issue with making the fries, so the line up of sandwiches on the counter ensued. Long story short, 50 minutes later they called my name and off I went. The good news, the fries were hot. The bad news, the sandwiches were stone cold from spending the last 35 minutes on the counter and the chicken teriyaki sub I ordered with extra onions and mushrooms had not a single mushroom or onion on the whole sandwich. Waiting an hour for a sandwich was bad enough, waiting an hour for an order that's they made incorrectly is where this review comes in. I wish I could say this was my first bad experience at this Penn Station, but it seems to be more the rule than the exception for this location. Next time I'll know better and go ahead and make the drive to the Oakbrook location. read more
