I moved to this area 2.5 years ago, it was about time I give this place a try. I had noted a couple things on their menu I wanted to try so tonight I just tried them all for takeout. Service counter here is very friendly. Small cheesesteak was spot on. You couldn't ask for better without a roll from John's Roast Pork. Rockfish fingers were begging to have a rose petal sauce for dipping. Maybe slightly overdone for my taste. But very tasty. I'll have to figure out how to make my own rose petal sauce. Cheesesteak egg rolls were yummy, but again the breading maybe a little long in the fryer. I would order the cheesesteak again and maybe the rockfish if I can track down some rose petal sauce. read more

Had a cheesesteak a few Sunday's ago. It was huge, very tasty , soft roll also. Shared with two other people. I will definitely order again.

These Cheesesteaks are very impressive...we ordered extra cheese,mushrooms and fried onions and of course the beach fries... WOW....the sandwiches were generously full, tasty and filling. Piping hot (even after a 20 minute ride) Beach fries were good too. Inside you will definitely find a beer to your liking....there's a super huge selection of micro- brews, imported and domestic beers....cases, 6 packs, individually sold...you can also make up a 6 pack of your own choosing. My family has been going to Penn Brew for years for the most phenomenal cheesesteak sandwiches. It's been several months, but we just went last night 2/16/25 and things have changed. The large sandwich is almost half the size it used to be with less than a third of the meat than it used to have. Talk about shrink inflation. The only thing that didn't change was how much they charge for their large sandwich. You used to have to eat the excess meat with a fork because it would be falling out of the sandwich now several bites of the sandwich had no meat at all. We used to order one large sandwich for every two people, the new large sandwich can barely feed one person and as I said, there is very little meat compared to the way it used to be. I don't understand why businesses do this and think they can get away with it. If ingredient costs are rising, charge me more for a sandwich don't rip me off and give me something you could barely call a sandwich. They used to distinguish themselves with a superior sandwich than Capriotti's. Now you can't even tell the difference. read more

Another weekend, another road trip. Yesterday I found myself at the Penn Brew Station for the first time in about 10 years. My last couple of visits here were poor to say the least and I've avoided this place because of it. I have to say that the Cheesesteak I had for lunch yesterday was definitely on par with what I used to get here about 13 years ago when I first discovered and started visiting PBS. I was happy to see that the Cheesesteak had returned to it's former girth for lack of a better word. The sandwich was stuffed to the gills with grilled onion and provolone. The overly salty taste I had complained about in my last review was also gone. Honestly I came in here expecting the worst and was very pleasantly surprised to find their Cheesesteak had returned to form. Great job! I look forward to visiting again soon. read more

Very friendly staff, easily placed a phone order for takeout. Tastiest cheesesteak I've enjoyed in ages. Bacon cheese fries and mozzarella sticks were also ordered. Those were standard fare and tasty, but not noteworthy. Fantastic selection of beer and adult slushies. Beer sold by pack/case and individual bottles. Easy to get to with a big parking lot. Go too place for Cheese Steaks, they do a Great Job, and if you like different kinds of Beer and Fissis they must have 500 different beers. Slushy Machine that they make Margaritas in. But if you can handle it - the people are friendly, the prices are right and the food is tasty. This place is a great "I'm hungry and want food at a reasonable price". They have a buy 3 LG hoagies get the 4th free. The prices themselves are not crazy either, especially with the amount of food they give. Our Cheesesteaks were loaded. The meat is average quality as well, so has a great flavor. Penn Brew Stations' menu simply reads better then it delivers. I've gotten take out five times over a year time frame, and just experienced too many disappointments. The worst was an entirely salty cheesesteak. What the heck did they do to this poor sandwich to make me drink a gallon of water for the next two hours after consumption. To make matters worse, the portions are way too meager for the price, and the wait for a "to order" can be beyond reasonable. I once waited well beyond 30 minutes for two sandwiches. Let's go PBS..., you can do better then this. Correct your prices and deliver a better quality of food. read more

The boardwalk fries were delicious! Cooked well (a little greasy but hey, they are fries) and they were salted, not enough for my taste but too many places don't salt at all which is ridiculous. I will definitely be back for more fries! Cheese sauce was also good. read more

This is more like a place you go because out here you can't get to philly for a philly steak. this is about as close as you can get to one "wit" (with cheese whiz) though i havent asked for cheese whiz. but anyway i used to work on the oxford circle for about 5 YEARS and this far out PAST the suburbs of Philly, this is the best steak you can get. My point is... after a long day at work, you can call here and get something and it takes them 20 or 25 minutes to get it ready, but it's perfectly fine, and a good value. it tastes good. occasionally there's an idiot working the counter .. ok, fine,... if you live out here, you know there's Not A Lot of Qualified Candidates in the Work Pool! (or gene pool), but they found the slightly above average ones. Which in W.Grove/Cochranville/Avondale means the Cream of the Freakn Crop. We placed an order for pick up today and we were unsatisfied overall. I ordered beach fries, a cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak. The beach fries were soggy and had several raw fries in the mix and the cheesesteak was drenched in cheese to the point that a mixture of cheese and grease was pouring out of my sandwich onto the plate. I love cheesesteaks and in my 38 years this was the first time I threw one out after about 3 bites ( it was disgusting). However the chicken cheesesteak my wife ordered was actually pretty good. We haven't ordered there in a while and I don't plan on ordering there for a long time. read more

Everything I've ever ordered food wise has been good. Beach fries are a little on the limp/soggy side but I drench them in vinegar any way so it doesn't bother me but it might be a disappointment for others. Great selection of take out beer, tax is included in the prices marked so it's a better deal than it looks. However, the food is a rip off. Same with their sister store Bellybusters in Oxford. $5.99 for a cheesesteak on what looks to be a hot dog roll. It didn't even fill up my 8 yr old! Huge disappointment. We have eaten from Penn Brew many times and yes......we have had a couple disppointments......but tell me where the PERFECT place is that does NOT make mistakes. The employees at Penn Brew are human and yes....will make a mistake here and there. They ALWAYS fix their mistakes in a timely and apologetic manner!! Tthey do not deserve criticism.......they are doing their best to serve their community and I feel they are doing a great job!!! The quality of the food is outstanding and the portions are more than enough to satisfy even the hungriest customer!! Sometimes messy.......but in a good way!!!! Super selection of 6 packs of beer. All kinds of beers I've never even heard of. Their food is great, but sometimes it is kind of slow when they are busy. I always call ahead now. Cheese steaks are great and I am in love with their chicken panini. Also you have to try the "buttons" they are tater tots with cheese in them, yum!
