Very good little sandwich in historic Avondale. A house had a small cow pasture in their side yard. Earl feeds avondale. Steady flow of regulars while I waited. He was still cooking breakfast so I got a hint of bacon. 2 sizes, I got the small for $6. Good stuff made well. read more

Excellent hoagies, and the perfect portion sizes too. Many places give you a sandwich that's overflowing with an absurd amount of salty deli meats, leaving you dying of thirst within the hour. However, this places gets it right....no need to buy a gallon of water with your food. Sandwich Heaven? Pretty darn close! I was finally able to go to Earl's today after my nephew's baseball game. Like the last reviewer Michael F. mentioned be prepared to wait. Even on a Saturday afternoon there were at least 10 people in line ahead of us when we arrived. All in all we waited close to 30 minutes for our lunch after placing the order. The only reason I can come up for them being slow is love. These sandwiches are perfection. I went with the Classic Turkey w/ Bacon and after eating this monster I didn't eat again for 24 hours. It was a great sandwich with top shelf toppings on a D'Ambrosio roll. While you're waiting you can walk through the shop and pick out a drink from the huge assortment of them and a snack to go with your sandwich. Next time I go I'm definitely trying the cheesesteak. read more

Hard to find a good, old fashion sub. Drove by with no clue as to what to expect. So glad we did. Fresh rolls, good amount of meat, great price point. Smelled just like an old fashioned Italian deli. Really good sub/bread. Had the 6" Abruzzo: Salami, prucuitto and sharp provolone, with fresh toppings. Good tomato, onion, crisp lettuce, pickles plus oil and 3 choices of vinegar (I had red wine). Sub ready in 5 minutes. Good stuff. read more

First thing is first, if you go to Earl's ...be ready to wait. I've been twice, and each time waited at least 15-20 minutes from walking in to walking out for one hoagie. Each time there was less then a half dozen folks in there, so I'm still having a hard time comprehending the slow operation. Onto more important things, the hoagies themselves. Looks like Earl's is using D'Ambrosio rolls for their sandwiches. Good move. The roll can stand up to a big sandwich and has plenty of flavor compared to many other local choices. The hoagies are prepared with plenty of TLC from what I believe might be the owner (Mom sorta type) with lots of care. Really fresh ingredients, and I enjoy the Special Italian. Perfect balance of ingredients and maybe one of the better hoagies in Southern Chester County compared to their local competition. There are also plenty of choices on hot sandwiches and breakfast items. I do intend to try a scrapple and egg someday. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with how good the cheese steak from earls was. Actually tasted like steak and was definitely filled to capacity with meat as opposed to Capriotti's who has begun weighing everything!!! I would not give it 5 stars as the aesthetics of the store are poor and the cheesesteak wrapper was full of grease after 5 mins. The Italian sub was ok but go for the cheesesteak!!! read more

I've gone twice in the recent past and I would say hands down they have some of the best subs in the area . The rolls are perfect, meat is fresh and meat to lettuce ratio is on point. I've been going to Earl's all my life and I will continue to go there. Their sandwiches are the best around this area, perhaps anywhere. I love their Italian and Special Italian sandwiches but I am most obsessed with their breakfast sandwiches. It doesn't matter which one you get because they are all amazing, I prefer the Scrapple (local btw) egg and cheese with a touch of ketchup, also the Hot sausage egg with cheese and hot peppers. First time to Pennsylvania from Maui and heard this place was the place for my first real cheesesteak sandwich. Got to counter and told the girl i wanted 2 cheesesteaks. She asked what i wanted on them so i asked what they came with. She said sharply, "we put nothing on them until you tell us to". Feeling a bit lost i told her was my first time to PA and my first cheese steak and asked what she recomended i have on it. Her reply was ketchup...lol...really?.is that a thing?...she clearly wasnt thrilled to be working and likely didnt appreciate my excitement to try their food, or maybe annoyed by a tourist asking questions . :/ Decided against ketchup and got mine with onions and mushrooms and the wife got a plain cheesesteak. Was pretty damn good, although rather light on the cheese. Bread was fresh and soft and was all made fresh to order.
