Their warmth was a huge comfort to my mom. They cared deeply about her physical and emotional well-being. The apartment was exceptional. It was well-designed, with ample kitchen counter space, large bathroom, and cozy bedroom. It had lots of light, ample closet space, and a washer/dryer. The facility is kept immaculate - more like a nice hotel than anything else. The apartment cleaners are really very meticulous. Every time I visited my mom, I noticed that this was the cleanest I've ever seen any of her places. The shuttle van was always available for my mom's medical appointments. PDR also offered outings to museums. In summary, I highly recommend PDR to someone who needs assisted living.

My mom thought she was at a resort with so many people helping her. She was happy. When Serra Highlands staff arrived the place went down hill so fast. My mom did not get breakfast or lunch some days. Even after asking for it. But they still charged her for 3 meals a day. There is hardly NO communication at all. Amanda North would take weeks to respond back to me emails let alone phone calls. They over charged my mom's account by submitting the monthly payment twice. They over charged her. (Their fault) THEN told me that I would have to wait up to 6 weeks before they would refund the money back. During that time my mom passed away and I asked them to send the check in my name because my mom's account is closed now and Amanda tells me, that can not be done. I am so HAPPY that my mom is in a MUCH BETTER PLACE and not there anymore. I hate that I will have to take the legal route. I just want this to be OVER!! What's right is RIGHT!!!! BEWARE!!!

However: The ED when I signed up assured me that she could keep monthly rent including cost of care below $6000 for a couple years. Of course I couldn't get that in writing yet I was so proud of myself for juggling and liquidating assets to come up $72k/yr, but management changed even though I never received notice. Sadly, I have to place my mom elsewhere as the monthly rent, including cost of care, went from $5800 to $6125 in March to $7650 in April. That's $91+k per year. And I'm supposed to be able to come up with a 24% increase in a snap. And because I still have a small balance because I haven't found the extra $ yet, the company is charging me several $250 late fees each month ‍. I've paid the necessary late fees ($250) when I was truly late with rent. The company refused to restore use of the online rent payment company 'Rent Cafe' that had been available in the beginning of my mom's stay, but after about six months, I'm happy to share that they've finally started using it again. I just signed the newest lease of $6150 backdated to March 1, which I've paid but I haven't been able to cough up the extra $1500/month. Not sure how they can charge it because my latest less is for $6150. There's a new ED but she has yet to reach out to me except to send me a letter threatening my outstanding balance be sent to collections even though I'm making payments every single mont. Feels like bait and switch to me. The president of the family owned business(es)/ventures, Deepak Israni, has no health care credentials and is ''responsible for acquisitions, disposition, development, financing and asset management for all property types for Pacifica Companies." (bio on PacificaCompanie.com). There've been several judgements against the company in the last year, and Pacifica is declaring bankruptcy for one of their holdings. Guess this is why they're screwing us...I'm sure management salary has increased though. I am truly sad that I cant afford to keep my mom there as I love the staff. #corporategreed #noprofitforhealthcare #dementiasucks #singlepayernotmilitary

The building maintains solid staffing ratios, and it shows. Residents receive attentive, compassionate care, and the team always takes the time to greet you with warmth and professionalism. During my last visit there the Sales Counselor, Kara, took the time to step outside and talk with one of the residents about a problem he was having, and she showed such a lovely compassion and way of following up on the issue. There's a noticeable culture of kindness and respect here, not just toward visitors and families, but most importantly, toward the residents. It's clear that the staff are well-trained, engaged, and truly care about the people they support. In a region where finding quality care at an affordable rate can be a real challenge, AlmaVia offers a meaningful balance. It's a great option for families looking for person-centered memory care in a supportive, mission-aligned environment.

It is so hit or miss depending on who the care providers are. Some are really amazing and have their hearts in the right place and do an amazing job of caretaking for a very vulnerable and challenging clientele. There are others who do the bare minimum and you can tell that they hate their job and are only there for the money. The manager Aaron is the worse. So unresponsive and does not manage the staff well. He's hardly ever on site so he doesn't see what is going on. Sometimes they are so understaffed, it's not only negligent, it's dangerous. I couldn't recommend the garden area (the memory care area) for anyone I cared for. Oh and it is soooo expensive for the really crappy food and super small rooms and problematic service. Don't be fooled by the great tour they give, you won't get all of the amenities that the regular residents have access to.

I toured 8 facilities in total and eventually settled on WR because of two main reasons- staff longevity and lack of (even unfounded) complaints on the licensing website. I used to be a hospice social worker and have visited dozens of assisted living facilities and I know how hard it is to accomplish both of those things. From day one the staff has been thoughtful, conscientious, and so very kind. They have welcomed not only my grandpa, but our family, every step of the way. When he was recently in the hospital they even turned his TV on for his cat so she wouldn't be lonely! They shampooed his carpet the first day he was gone so it would be nice when he came back. They think ahead, they communicate proactively, they pay attention to residents' preferences, adapt quickly to changes, and the staff truly seem happy working there. I cannot recommend WR enough. I am so grateful.

This place does have all the essentials you would want for your loved ones: wonderful clean spaces, great food and a calendar full of activities, but the thing that separates Westborough from all other assisted living homes is undoubtedly the staff. Even through the depths of the pandemic when the home was closed to non-essential visitors, the staff remained caring, attentive and committed to serving these residents. As a physical therapist, I have never met a staff team that was so eager, ready and willing to help these residents improve their mobility and quality of life as I have at Westborough. I can remember Hilda, one of the custodial workers, lending one of her own canes to a new resident to help her walk during PT while the resident waited for her daughter to order her own. I knew I could rely on the caregivers, such as Lillian and Izcaly, to go the extra mile by walking with residents outside of PT to keep them mobile and safe when the "easier" way would have been to keep residents in a wheelchair. This team is definitely not known for taking shortcuts. You can see their pride for their work in how the staff consistently goes above and beyond what is expected of them. Shirley is in charge of activities, but she really excels in creating a great sense of community among the residents. I love to see the residents just linger in the common areas between activities and for Shirley to just talk and reminisce with them. I have even seen Shirley recognize a new resident who was struggling with the change in her living situation and Shirley just spent time talking with this resident alone in the garden. By the way, the garden is immaculate--all thanks to Jesus, who is in charge of maintenance, and yet he does so much more. I am indebted to him for numerous occasions for helping me with fixing assistive devices and other tasks. Finally, I must highlight Westborough Royale's Executive Director, Bridget. Her experience and insight are absolutely vital to this team. I have never a met a director who knows so well the needs, preferences and difficulties for each resident. Working with her has made all the difference in helping our home health team deliver better care. As you can see, I really can go on and on about this staff. The above examples are just clear signs to me that this staff does not view this home as simply a job that they're punching in and out of. They truly care to serve the needs of these residents. I will say though that they are not miracle workers and there are inevitable health issues that will occur in this phase of life. But the staff at Westborough will help your loved ones feel at home in this place and care for their needs as best as possible. As someone who has worked for residents at other assisted living homes across the US (and around the Bay Area), I will say that Westborough Royale is absolutely the very best that I have seen. I also want to thank credit the other wonderful staff (and I'm sorry for those that I've forgotten to mention or didn't get a chance to meet): Maria Eric Elena Maricela Carmen Gloria Ana

While a locked ward is never where you want your parent to end up, I couldn't be more pleased with the attention my mom is receiving. She has vascular dementia and not Alzheimer's, so while it is is extremely hard to watch her decline, her physical symptoms are not particularly worrisome, so perhaps she requires less attention than someone who is a fall risk or is so agitated that they are a physical threat to the staff. This is very difficult work, and while it would be amazing to have 1:1 attention for my mom, whenever I visit her (now I have to wear a mask and stand 7 feet away) she is well groomed, happy and relaxed. I worry a lot so I find myself calling quite a bit to check in. The activities staff is very attentive and even the caregiving staff has shown a good deal of devotion to my mother, especially given the current pandemic. I can sleep at night knowing there are no Covid cases and that they are exceptionally careful about who is allowed to enter the facility. While on the face of it, Aegis is quite expensive, I work in the field and know that other facilities in SF cost literally TWICE as much. It is a shame that adult care is so expensive, but I believe Aegis is a very good deal considering our other options. I am grateful to have found this place and can't say enough good things about the director, the activities staff, and the host of other workers who keep my mother safe.

I had a loved one that was admitted at the beginning of November 2025. She was placed in the middle space of a 3-bed room. One of the roommates must have complained loud enough because every day that I visited, her TV was unplugged from the ceiling, even though the volume level was at 1 or 2. (Strike 1) Also, the meals did not look very appetizing. (Strike 2) But here's my biggest complaint...I've read some of the reviews and I agree that it seems they're only in business for the money. (Strike 3...details below) I was told on a Thursday that my loved one's insurance coverage would end on the coming Saturday. I could appeal, but if I wanted her to stay, I would need to pay out of pocket. Basically, I felt if I didn't pay, she would be kicked out with no where to go. So I paid for 3 nights, appealed the decision, and scrambled to look for assisted living. Luckily, I was able to find someplace that weekend, and we moved her out after the "out of pocket" stay. The appeal was eventually granted a couple days before Thanksgiving. The process was for Golden Pavilion to bill the insurance company for the 3 days, and when they got paid, I would receive a refund. Given the fact that all this happened during the holidays, I was understanding and patient. It has now been over 2 months since the appeal was granted and I still have not received my refund. Apparently, the Accounts Payable department is on the East Coast. I paid for the 3 nights with a credit card. I don't understand why they can't just refund the card. They need to have the AP department cut me a check. So now every time I contact Golden Pavilion, the automatic response I get is "Sorry to hear that. We'll follow up with Accounts Payable". At this point, you have a former customer that is very upset. We're not talking about $100 here. This is a lot of money and it should be something you look into every day until it's resolved. But the feeling I'm getting is "I emailed Accounts Payable. It's in their hands now." I asked to be kept updated, but I'm fully expecting to not hear anything unless I reach out. I've spoken to a few Assisted Living facilities and when I mentioned we were at Golden Pavilion, at least one of them reacted with "Ooh...how was that?" As if they're familiar with the reputation. ***UPDATE*** The same day I posted this review, I emailed them again. Of course they email and call me saying "We asked AP to mail the check to you directly but they mailed it to us. We couldn't get it ready in time for outgoing mail yesterday". Yeah, likely story. In the end, I picked it up personally. But my rating stays the same.
