Burlingame Villa is the kindest most wonderful assisted living establishment that anyone could hope for. The residence are treated like family in the most caring environment possible. My brother was a resident for over 8 months and he very much enjoyed making friends and joining in with the daily activities, the good food and snacks. A safe, peaceful and happy place. While visiting almost every day I witnessed exceptional acts of kindness at all times. My name is Linda. My mother was in this memory care eight years ago. She died because of this place lack of care. It all looks good, but beware of this place Burlingame Villa hmmm looks good specially the first floor beautiful you go up to the second floor terrible smelly and wait a minute. They say it's a 24 hour memory care. I am here to tell you it is not. They are liars when my mother passed away. They're on a Friday night when I stayed all night. I was appalled. The workers were sleeping on chairs. The patients were not being cared disgusting place. Please beware at night your loved one will not be watched at this place. My dad has been here for a few years. I moved him from another facility called Peninsula Reflections in Colma where they refused to give my father his medication, didn't bathe him, cut his hair or shaved him. I had to plead with one of the caregivers to even change his diaper. It was a nightmare. Burlingame Villa is so much better. Their staff is kind and caring. I know he is well taken care of. They coax him to take his medication and he is doing so much better. I didn't think he would have survived at the first facility. He is now happier and at peace. When I see him now, through Zoom, he is clean and well shaved. I thank God I found this place. read more

My mother has been at Burlingame Villa (BV) for several months. The facility was recommended several times and I had delayed in moving her there because I had continued to think my mom could live more independently. I wish I had moved my mom sooner. After a bout with shingles and a hospitalization, BV was the only facility I felt met my mom's needs - she is bedridden and has dementia, but still has a vibrant but sometimes demanding personality. Together with my mom's medical team, the BV caregiving staff and amazingly responsive Ana and her managers provide regular updates and excellent care for my mom. read more

This review is a long time coming, and not easy to write. My Grandmother was a resident at the Burlingame Villa about 10 years ago, and more recently, my Mother-in-law. My Grandmother had Alzheimer's and my Mother-in-law had vascular dementia. I can only guess that if you are reading this, you are considering care for someone. My heart goes out to you... there is nothing easy about the decisions you face. For both my Grandmother and Mother-in-law in the early stages of their dementia, we started with in-home care, but at some point it was not enough. It is not by chance that we chose Burlingame Villa for my wife's Mom. We had such a good experience with my Grandmother, there was no question that the Burlingame Villa was the right place for her. The amount of social interaction and human contact at the Burlingame Villa was so much superior to what their lives had become at home with a single care giver. One of the most impressive things about Burlingame Villa, is that many of the staff that were there caring for my Grandmother, were still there (almost 10 years later) when my Mother-in-Law became a resident. Every year, my family and I go on the Alzheimer's Association's Memory walk in SF, and meet up with the folks from "The Villa". At the walk, they are known as the Cimino Care Angels, and it could not be more accurate. The staff at the Burlingame Villa are truly angels. My Mother-in-law passed a couple of months ago, and honestly, I miss going to visit her at the Villa. And it's not just her absence that has left a void. The staff was so friendly, and many of the other residents have a charming childlike innocence. I suppose the most important thing I can say about the Burlingame Villa, is that if I were to have the misfortune to have the need for dementia care myself, I'd want to go to the Burlingame Villa. read more

How do you find a new home for your parent? A place that you can put your complete trust in and know that they will provide the best care for your loved one? After the realization that we could no longer care for our father at home we began the difficult search. We found Burlingame Villa it was what we were looking for. The entire staff and all the residence gradually felt like one large family to us. They took wonderful care of our father and were there for him and our family, especially during the pandemic. My mom was cared for at the Burlingame Villa for 4 years. My sisters and I were very happy with the level of care she received. The facility is smaller than other care homes, which makes it more personal. In that time, there was very little staff turnover. The interaction between the staff and the residents was exceptional as they were always respectful and treated them with dignity. I want to say that Burlingame Villa provides the best care available, and I would never consider any other memory care facility in the area. If you're looking for a safe, loving and caring home-like environment for your loved one, look no further. The staff have been caring for my mom for over a year. She is happy, safe, and loved as part of the BV family. The resident rooms are beautiful, clean and come with private bathrooms. The food is delicious and nourishing - home cooked meals tailored to each person's needs. Daily activities and entertainment are provided too. This is a facility with some nice people working there. However, they are cheap and don't hire enough people so the patients are not tended to, and the food is horrific. Mrs. Cimino is a heartless manager and they hide the numerous reports to the san mateo ombudsman. Andrea, Jazmine, and Ana are kind and loving but then there are some employees who are whack jobs. Try Silverado, they are a better place. read more

I've been meaning to write this for a while now and as I got a notice from the Villa to give consent for my mom to get her yearly flu shot, it reminded that I need to write this. I am so THANKFUL that this place exists! I cared for my mother for four years at home, with me. One day, it inevitably was an emergency and I didn't know where to turn and thank god the Villa is in the neighborhood and close by as I was able to immediately take her over there for respite. It made me realize that she needed to be there long term, so I moved her in and over the next few months she settled in nicely. The care givers are great. The food is good. They take care of everything so I don't have to worry about a thing. What I really like is that it is like a home, small and cozy and all the residents are like a family with each other. It's so conveniently located near my house so I can pop in whenever. I get comfort out of knowing that my mother isn't too far away from me. I'm really glad my mom is there. read more

This place is a good as it gets. I've had two family members in this care facility and the experience (both times) was excellent!! The staff became family, treating us with love and respect. My family members were very comfortable there and received the kindest of treatment. The owners are super easy to work with and were very accommodating especially when we made our unusual requests. My dad, who at 98 year old, was fiercely independent when he was placed in Burlingame Villa. Anna and her staff made him feel comfortable and welcomed - and he soon accepted his stay at the facility. As a former State Medicaid Director I understand the challenges that facilities like Burlingame Villa face in their daily operations and I have realistic expectations for these facilities. Burlingame Villa met all of my expectations - the facility was clean, staff was competent and caring, food was nutritious and more than ample, and the administrative staff was responsive to our family needs. When there were issues and concerns (which there will be with this older/memory challenged population) the Villa immediately were in contact with the family - they didn't try to cover anything up. The staff was also very caring and compassionate to our family, especially our 94 year old mom. During the last week of Dad's life various family members spent the night with Dad - staff not only worked hard to make sure Dad was comfortable and pain free, they also were very attentive to family member's comfort. Burlingame Villa met or exceeded my expectations and I will be forever grateful for the care and compassion they showed my Dad in his last few months of life. read more

No PT or OT therapies. My relative has lost their ability to walk in the 6 months that they have been there. Even though they can walk they are not walked- parked in their wheelchair with a table shoved up against them. Ambulatory patients are free to roam into other patient's rooms. My relative is given a dirty doll and a robotic cat with nasty fur to play with. Occasionally they are given a beat up puzzle. My Grandmother stayed at Burlingame Villa for over 15 years. The staff and management treat everyone like their own family and have become an extension of our family. They made sure my grandmother was always accommodated. The staff worked very hard to have activities for all the different levels of participation. The range of different levels of activity and capability never stopped them from trying to keep everyone engaged. They keep the facility very clean and do a great job making the Villa a second home. read more

My mother moved to the Villa in January after she broke her hip. She is 90 with Dementia and needed closer care now. She had been living in a larger community which recently had her on a confined floor which was upsetting to her. She was declining and slept most of the day with little stimulation and falling frequently. Our family knew she needed more but were very concerned about changing familiar surroundings. We visited the Villa after hearing positive feedback in the community. This placement has been a very good thing. The staff is far superior than what we previously experienced. They are warm and friendly and treat each resident with dignity and love . They are always keeping us updated and if they have any concerns they are addressed right away. They have made my mom feel welcome and calm in a tough situation. The home is very clean and cheerful . If you visit you will find them to be very consistant in those standards. I have total peace of mind when im not there that she will not be ignored and left to sleep the day away. At this stage of my mothers life i feel she has the best care and that is invaluable. read more

What are these other people talking about? This place is AWFUL! The staff doesn't talk to any of the inmates (yeah - they seem like inmates). I guess I heard them they speak English - but just the bare minimum. Like, "here mama, bananas". Most of the people who "live" at Burlingame Villa are barely above vegetable anyway - but I swear the staff doesn't know which ones. They talk to them like they're stuffed animals. The oldsters who are aware what's going on still are dying for any kind of stimulation. If you dump someone in this "memory care" facility, you better make sure your loved one is getting the "memory care" somewhere else cuz Burlingame Villa doesn't do anything besides stick everybody in a wheelchair (whether they need one or not), throw diapers on them and park their chair somewhere all day. Usually the table where they eat - so they must move meals in and out of view. Swear to god, I would lose all sense of reality every time I visited my Gran there. Don't be fooled by calendars they hang on the walls with all these activities - I never ever ever ever saw a single activity except meals. They don't even help them eat it if they cant. Families suck - most of them don't even visit so they don't eve n know. Couple of people who were pretty OK when they got there turned into droolers in about 3 weeks, just sitting wherever they got parked and staring. Wish my Gran didn't get stuck here - it really ruined her. Everythign's clean and they hose the old people down - don't get me wrong. But if someone you know has any brain activity at all, take em somwhere else. My family sucks - but if yours doesnt ... read more
