Such a fun cool place to visit! I would recommend this winery to anyone wanting to check out wines on the Old Mission peninsula. The building is an old school house and is decorated in such a fun way. They have a lot of sweeter wines and I'm more of a dry wine fan, but their riesling was fantastic, I went back the next day to purchase a bottle. We stopped at four wineries on the mission peninsula. This was the smallest we stopped at, but the staff was incredibly friendly. They provided us with four free samples, and we chose to purchase one additional from the premium list. my husband's favorite was a red wine called Homework (too sweet for my taste). I liked the premium chardonnay best. We bought a chocolate bar in addition to wine: salted chocolate with almond... Really delicious. The only down side was the size of the winery, but this made it a much more intimate experience. They also didn't have a paper wine list to write notes on; this was helpful at other wineries. read more

We stop here every year for the Detention wine. We were the only people there when we stopped yesterday and I have to say disappointing doesn't even begin to say how we feel. The 2 men who were working couldn't even mutter hello, thank you or anything. We only bought 2 bottles this time and will try and find it in a friendly atmosphere. This is a very cute and quaint little winery. The tastings (of 6 different wines) are free. And the staff was very nice, offering to let us stay past close to try even more than the allotted 6! They don't offer a whole lot in the way of wine tchotkies, but I'm ok with that, since they have a lot of good (and very reasonably priced) wines. read more

This is one of my favorite tasting rooms to visit in the Traverse area. The people are always very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They never really seem to get overwhelmed with the number of patrons. The wine is good and reasonably priced. The schoolhouse theme is neat. Definitely worth a stop every time. read more

This may have been my favorite winery in the Traverse City area. Located on the Old Mission Peninsula, the tasting room of this winery is located in an old schoolhouse. The staff here was very friendly and helpful, and not at all snobby. You get 6 tastings for free, although our staff member let us try more. The wines are very reasonably priced, and also delicious. This place specializes in cherry wines, so give them a try! I absolutely adore their Hot Rod cherry wine, it is surprisingly rich and delicious! I will definitely be back here next year! read more

We visited virtually all of the tasting rooms on Old Mission and this was one of my favorites. The staff were incredibly nice and attentitive. We were given several free tastes with decent pours. When there was one I wanted to try but ran out of free tastes, the server gave it to me to try anyway. The atmosphere of the old school house only adds to the fun of this place. We walked out having purchased multiple bottles of their wine which they were offered a deal on. I will certainly be back next time I'm in town. read more

First stop on our wine tour. The tasting room is made out of an old school house. Still has the chalkboards and everything! Wine is great and has some amazing views. Wines are cleverly named after some common school words such as detention and exchange student. Although detention was never fun the wine detention is opposite of the negative connotation. read more

Tastings in a picturesque one-room school house in a grove. Dry riesling by far the best on Old Mission. Owners friendly, wines truly well balanced and interesting. Skip the obligatory cherry wines, while signature flavor of region, they are nothing special. This region produces really solid German wines. They have a great wine list with lots of choices for any persons likes. The only issue is that the guy pouring the wine did not describe or tell us about the wine at all just poured it and went back to talking about other stuff. He was nice however I would have liked more info on the wine. The location is great inside an old school house. We got a red wine that was full of black pepper flavors and smoke. Our favorite winery on the peninsula. Cute open schoolhouse, many of the items inside are from the original space. We had an excellent conversation on a lazy Sunday with the bartender, who gave us some helpful local insight on the area...and the wine! We enjoyed it all, but ended up buying a bottle of the Pinot Blanc. Definitely stop here on your tour. read more

Least favorite of the wineries we visited. This is due to the wine here - everything we tasted was poor. The staff was friendly and the main attraction is that the tasting room is a late 1800's one room schoolhouse. Worth stopping by to see the building, but I'd pass on the wine. read more

Wonderful use of a historic building. I loved the cute, gimicky names for some of the wines since it is in a old schoolhouse - made them stand out a little. The late harvest riesling, detention, and hot rod cherry were the best in my opinion but I didn't try anything I didn't like! read more

Wine was good don't get me wrong. What the winery takes a knock for is there was virtually no education about what I was drinking. I was the only customer in the winery and the pourer was clearly more interested in cleaning glasses than discussing or telling me anything about the wine I was tasting. The winery experience for me is more about the education and story of the wine more so then the taste because let's be honest taste is purely subjective on wether or not you like the wine but the interaction with the staff is pretty universal. read more

This place is wonderful! It's laid back but has a really cute theme. They have a 'school house' theme and some of the wine names reflect that. I had a great tasting and the gent that served me was lovely. Great experience! The late harvest Riesling is the best I've ever had-- make sure you get more bottles than you planned! read more

The was the worst stop on our bus wine tour. The lady at the front was chasing around our group trying to kick us out. The wine was also not as great as any of the other stops on the tour, but also hard to enjoy when we just felt unwelcome. I do not recommend this location to any large to any large groups as they seemed overwhelmed and unable to handle them. read more

This place is very cute and unique. We loved the whole school-house theme, from the chalkboards to the original wood floors. A must see if you are touring the peninsula! My first wine tasting experience ever was at Peninsula Cellars, and it still remains my favorite place to take my out-of towner friends to! Easily the best place to go for wine-newbs like myself. You get 4 or 5 tastings free! All of the staff members are helpful, friendly, and fun to talk to; They made us want to learn more about the wine-making process rather than scoffing at us for being so uninformed!
