Outside patio

Gorgeous vineyards with a cute outside seating area. We had several wine flights and charcuterie, all of which were really good

Our first Michigan wine tasting. We picked Hwthron as our first stop because we noticed Auxerrois as one of their wines, and we have been wanting to try it. Beautiful setting with very nice views There's a big trading bar and ~4 tables in the main room, a nice patio, and then grounds with chairs. I think there's an upstairs, though we didn't go up there. It was really busy yet they seated us very quickly. Everyone was really friendly and helpful There are several flights ryou can buy glasses or bottles. We did 2 flights and bought a bottle to go. The wines we tried were all nice. I didn't fall in love and need a case shipped home, but all drinkable. What we tasted: Chardonay(ish) Flight, which included a stainless steel and an oaked chardonnay as well as an Auxerrois Premium Flight, which included a sparkling wine, merlot cab franc blend, and a Lemberger Popcorn Flight, which is 3 types of popcorn to pair with your wine....kind of silly but I saw it on YouTube and had to try it. My rating rationale +1 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Employees were very friendly. Note the entrance road is narrow but it is posted one way so theres no need to be alarmed. Hawthorne Vineyards has a decent selection of wines you can purchase by the glass and they offer flights as well. We also opted for a charcuterie snack pack to enjoy while sitting outside. They have a small patio with tables and propane heaters for those crisp fall days as well as a pair of solo stove campfires out in the yard. There is ample seating, at least when we were there. The views are spectacular, and the drive in is quite fun as well. A couple near us had their dog outside playing fetch, so I'm assuming the place is pet friendly but may be worth asking ahead of time. There were 2 gender neutral restrooms, both of which were nice and tidy.

First time coming here. The preselected wine groupings were ok, as you didn't have to guess. Ordering our selections was very challenging! There were quite a few people there which made it extremely LOUD! We took our wine outside to enjoy the beautiful scenery! I highly recommend sitting in the Adirondack chairs! I only wish they offered munchies!

Wine is okay and the service is okay. Nothing special to write home about honestly. I like the logo and the inside is cool because you can see both bays, but the outside views make this place.

Menu dry flight was delicious

It's almost hidden, so make sure you are paying attention to GPS to turn in, otherwise it's really easy to miss the turn in since there are just houses. We were told this is the only winery in Old mission where you have views of both bays from inside. Great patio area and views. We did a patio flight and a dry flight. Everything we drank was delicious. If we lived closer would join the wine club.

We loved the red wines here. We didn't think we would find Michigan red wines that were bold and smooth, but we were really impressed with what we tried at Hawthorne Vineyards! The views are great and the popcorn flight was yummy too! Great service and an overall excellent experience.

We got the sweet flight and the patio flight. Both were really good and recommend. I was honestly really bothered by the service though. They sat us outside and said "we will be right with you". We waited like 20 minutes and no one came out to serve us, so we went in to get the flights. Idk how you forget about a table you just sat, in my opinion.

One of the few wineries we were able to make a reservation at. Note - I didn't realize a lot of the wineries in the Traverse City area require reservations until about 2 days before our trip and only 2 had openings left the weekend we were in there. Lovely tasting room, very friendly staff, and amazing view. We had the all red flight which consisted of a 2018 Gamay, 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir, and a 2016 Reserve Merlot. Very good wine. We ended up buying a bottle of each to remember this beautiful winery.

A wonderful vineyard! Had a great time looking out over the bay. Great shade and relaxed atmosphere. Awesome flight options and the wine was great. They had a good amount of sweet options, which my husband really appreciated. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Definitely recommend on your next visit up the peninsula

Beautiful view

Lovely winery on the peninsula! The drive up to Hawthorne was beautiful. It sits at the top of a hill, so the views were lovely. They were quite busy on the Saturday afternoon that we visited, but there was someone checking everyone in and explaining the choices available, so that helped with the foot traffic. Loved Nancy, our server. She was knowledgeable and efficient, but didn't hover. The charcuterie board was delicious and paired wonderfully with our semi-dry wine choices. The atmosphere and the ambience were wonderful.

Small establishment but they honestly have the best views! Great pours for wine. The flights are beautiful. Wine taste great. They did a great job with covid protocols. Get a reservation!!

Old Mission Peninsula is the much smaller one, and it's plenty big enough. Bowers Harbor Vineyards offered exactly what we were looking for. Great wines, very friendly staff, and a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy it. They have snacks available that are kind of pitiful-- convenience store packages of hummus, pretzels, etc-- but you're not going for that. And they do the job to accompany the wine tasting. So whatever. They were very accomodating with letting us mix red and whites on a shared flight. We ended up buying a couple of bottles of a wonderful, dry and minerally chardonnay. Very relaxed and not at all intimidating for people like us who are not usually doing the wine thing. There were families with dogs and kids, and everyone seemed pretty chill. But of course we hightailed it out of there when the first bachelorette party arrived. I don't know why Traverse City became a hotbed of bachelorette parties, but it has, and you'll have to suffer through that wherever you go.
