We love Penelope's! My boys walk right in no questions asked. They always do a great job, especially trimming my aussie mix's long fur in the summer so he can breathe. I just came back from bringing them in to get their nails trimmed--of course they won't let me do it myself. I called and they said to come on over, 30 minutes later I was already home with the boys and their freshly cut nails! I watched as they took the boys back one at a time. My aussie mix is a big boy and can get wiggly but they handled him quickly and easily. My cattle dog is much easier to manage and he got lots of scritches while they did his nails with ease. I can't say enough about this place. I love love Sam! She's truly a godsend when it comes to our dogs. They do an extraordinary job with Jax and Ziba. Prices are really good, they do are very thorough and treat them like they're their own! Ziba and Jax are always happy and smell amazing. I am SHOCKED at the very few negative reviews on here. Thank you to the owner for replying to those reviews explaining the circumstances. That is the nicest way I could comment about those ridiculous reviews. That being said, we absolutely love Penelopes! We have been taking our 2 Shih Tzu's (Posey & Kershaw) here for years and they are so excited when we tell them it's spa day! Sam is amazing, the staff are so sweet and the prices are great. Especially being in the Costa Mesa / Newport area. We were being charged a lot more at our previous groomers and we are very grateful for the recommendation for Penelopes. Do not take your dog here. My dog came back with cuts all over.... even though they kept him for 8 hours! You would think they'd take their time but no. My dog had cuts on his face, behind his ears, on his butt and in between his toes. He was a bit matted, but is a well behaved dog and I have never had an issue anywhere else I have taken him. The fact that they didn't even acknowledge cutting him when I picked him up is the most disgusting part. read more

We take our two yorkies here after having a really bad experience with another groomer that we were loyal to. Safe to say; this is our new go to spot. They do everything so thorough and well. Our dogs are co-dependent and they keep them in the same kennel while waiting which is a nice thing to know as a pet owner. I called earlier this week to make an appointment for my cat's grooming and the person who picked up scheduled our appointment for today. I arrived for our appointment today 10 minutes early because the person on the phone said to. I have all the call logs of when I spoke with the groomer, and we called a total of 3 times to confirm the appointment as well. However, when we got there, they had no records of our appointment because someone forgot to write it down. They refused to groom our cat even though their afternoon schedule was open (the worker told us that he had nothing scheduled but still refused). It was so disappointing because our cat does not like traveling in a car and I can't even imagine how much stress he went through for nothing. Honestly, if they can't even keep track of their appointments, I would definitely not trust them with taking care of a pet. Go to another place with higher reviews. I can now wholeheartedly understand why their reviews are one of the lowest in the area. read more

My poor cat got fleas and despite all my efforts to treat her myself, nothing was working and it was getting bad so I had to figure out my next best options. Penelope's to the rescue! I told them my issues and they insisted on a flea bath. My baby was well treated, groomed, and feeling fine and dandy plus flea free after her bath. Great service , was quite impressed that our cat got tamed into submission. We always had trouble clipping and shaving her. It was always traumatizing for al parties involved. So this time, we decided to get her claws and butt trimmed professionally. They were good to Tiramisu. They were able to calm her down in the middle of her shaving. No other groomer compares to this one! It was really hard to find a groomer that takes cats then we found this one. They took the best care of our little persian kitty and even started to recognize him when we brought him in! Sadly he passed away recently, but we needed a place to bring our dog for nail trims as well. He didn't have a great experience at our local vet (in Irvine) so we thought to bring him here instead. So glad we did!! Our dog is an 80lb scary looking guy (but he's just a nervous sweetie) who hates getting his nails cut. They took such great care of him and it was such a relief to get his nails cut after so many times trying at home. They took us as a walk in and were able to do everything in less than five minutes. read more
