The stations are spacious and have a lot of counter space so I don't feel like I'm on top of another client. Alex was clearly very knowledgeable about her craft and knew the right shape and length for my face. From someone who has tried many salons due to my husbands job, I can say this one has staying power. I especially enjoyed the blow dry at the end which is not included at every salon in the town. Fair price and excellent service! They have been at a different location and moved from a smaller space in Newtown, so they are all experienced stylists. They even have a full barber service. This is also somewhere I would bring my kids for a cut because it's not stuffy or overpriced!

I have a somewhat unusual hairstyle (think fancy bowl cut...) and she always knows exactly how to shape it so that it grows out nicely (an issue I've always struggled with)! My daughter wanted to continue going to Ann for her hair cuts so eventually, the rest of us started visiting Ann for hair cuts. When Ann opened Bella Hair Design she notified us that she would be moving to her new location. She gave me all of her contact details as well as a choice whether we wanted to continue to have her as our hairstylist. We have been customers of Bella Hair Design ever since. She has cut and colored my hair as well as my daughter's and continues to cut my son's hair. Over the years, she has become a part of our family, styling our hair for proms and weddings. We are not a high maintenance family. I don't bring in color swatches for her to match my hair color, I trust her making my hair look as close to my original hair color as possible. I don't micro manage Ann, she asks me questions about what I am looking for and my hair always comes out the way I want it to. If she feels something won't look right with my face shape, she will tell me the pros and cons of my choice. Not every hairstyle goes with every face shape and I trust her to give me guidance. All of the stylists in the salon are pleasant and always say hello when they see you. There have also been times when I had to change my appointment and Patty has cut my hair. I have always been very pleased with Patty's styling as well. She, as well as everyone else (Kathleen, Alaina, Val and Joanne) in the salon, make me feel welcome when I am there. I would highly recommend Bella Hair Design for your hair styling.

All but two of the most recent reviews refer to Sandy Hook Hair Company, which closed in 2019 (see…read morehistory description) after nearly 25 years. The owner, Bonnie Fredericks, retired and the stylists work elsewhere. Salon Newtown is part of an expanding franchise (https://www.whipsalon.com/franchise). This franchise location was bought in 2019 by a stylist known as Marcelle Tiffany. The salon is tastefully decorated, making most of the limited space. Parking is easy. Of note, the salon is acting as a trailblazer of sorts ... participating in the Local Green Salon initiative, in which chemical-contaminated metal waste from color treatments are recycled. Wondering about the name? In a Nov/Dec 2019 SalonToday.com article, the franchise founder, Amy Pai, claims it's a slang term for hair. As it's the first reference I've come across, perhaps it's a term she created to help the franchise stand out. Adding to confusion, the "slang" term is popularly used as a verb in salon promotions (e.g. #getwhipped ) , inviting speculation about the origin of inspiration. Definitely brings attention!
