I came here for the factory tour, where the wool blankets they spin and finish are done completely in the United States. The tour skips some of the beginning steps (for example, they don't have sheep nor shear the sheep on the factory grounds!) but picks up from where the raw wool is shipped to the factory, dyed, cleaned, and spun into yarn. The yarn is then woven into bolts of fabric, but each square inch has to be inspected by hand and fixed if possible to ensure its quality. Then, the lengths of fabric are cut and finished into blankets. The factory tour took about an hour, and some areas are hot and humid to prevent the wool fibers from breaking, so be prepared for temperature changes. I liked how the tour guide used to be a factory worker herself, and had an intimate knowledge of the workings of the factory. The shop itself sells the blankets and other Pendleton products, and there's even a corner near the bathroom that sells blanket seconds-blankets that didn't pass the inspection process. This may be due to stains, too many broken yarns strands, etc. They're sold at a discount. read more

Absolutely phenomenal staff who made our experience buying blankets so pleasant and special. I took a tour with my aunt and uncle with Stephanie and Jodie. They were amazing!!! Also a blonde gentleman with longer hair whose name I did not get was so accommodating to get my uncle the right shirt and truly surprise him. He is not the type of person who would buy himself a very nice wool flannel so I was pleased to get that for him. I took my time finding blankets and asked the knowledgeable staff many questions and they were all very kind and patient. Special shout out to Stephanie who treated me with the utmost care! And of course the famous Jodie is not to be missed! Go to the tour on weekdays at 1pm. It's worth it as you get to tour all 330K feet of the mill which has been around since the early 1900s! To those who complain about outlet pricing - Pendleton produces high quality items. If you are looking for an outlet experience this is not that. It's far more special but deals are to be had! I got a Los Ojos blanket as a gift for a friend's house warming--half off from the seconds section and there was nothing wrong with it - it was just slightly narrow in the cut. Well I knew we would spend a small fortune here and we did, LOL. It's not cheap but we love Pendleton. The staff was all super friendly. We wandered around for close to 2 hours. We wanted to do a Mill tour but they didn't have enough staff for the 11am, they also do one at 1pm. Be sure to book in advance. We bought a vest, more towels and a bedspread. They had coffee cups, blankets, shirts, jackets, towels, pillows, etc. It's spendy but if you love it and you're in the area I wouldn't miss it! read more

Was excited to purchase a couple of sweaters, PJ's, and coats for gifts for family. I wear XL in sweaters. Looking for 1/4 zip. They didn't have any in XL. The had ONE in a small. Had to estimate sizes for my son and daughter. Was pretty sure, but asked if there would any problem returning them for a different size in a couple days. You can only return items IF you join their "club". Addresses, emails and telephone numbers. Well, just didn't feel like having to do something like that considering we were paying cash and we don't need the spam and junk mail thank you very much. So much for our $700+ order. Whenever we are in the Portland area I plan a trip to the Pendleton Woolen Mills Outlet in Washougal. Like the John Denver song, Some Days are Diamonds, Some days are Stones. Some visits you absolutely cash in! Some days you don't. On this day they had racks of clothes outside on the porch. I LOVED 1 of the shirts but it was only there (for an additional 30% off!) in Small and XXL) ... GUH! We found some plates and coffee cups (for gifts) and we're checking out when I mentioned my 'WOES' of not finding an XL of the shirt I listed after. Our checker-outer hat dropped everything to check their inventory. She found an XL in Seaside, Oregon, which she said would be mailed to me ... FREE! Bought it all! Altho I wondered if it would happen. By the time we reached our destination in Silverado, WA, I had an email that my shirt was being prepped for shipping! By the next morning the next email said it was mailed ... I was still a bit skeptical ... I mean they would really be able to ship from a different location that efficiently??? Received an email Sunday re: delivery Monday. And by damn that beautiful shirt appeared Monday! I am soooo happy! Pendleton, you are the BEST!!!! Have read several reviews of PO'd people re: Pendleton made in China. It's a BUSINESS!!! If they could afford to make QUALITY products in the USA they would! But unions and other lib issues would mean poor products. Business days to go with production measures and QC that produces a quality product at a reasonable price. It was so disgustingly hot in there. I would have spent a lot more money in there if it was a comfortable temperature for customers! I heard a sales person telling a customer that complained about the temperature that she turned up the temperature because she didn't bring a sweater to work. Willus is right! Famed Pendleton's wooly wonders to be fully appreciated only after a mill tour and outlet store...very cool and not hard to find at all... (i.e. follow the river!) I'm very appreciative of history and architecture, and as such an individual, gloried in the drive up from home to bring Mom and I on a tour of the wool mills and to shop at the outlet. The lovely wool throw that is both oh so functional and also matches my LR's furnishings was purchased here.... get many comments on how deliciously warm it is for cuddling out on the patio, even *with* the chiminea lit and working away.... Fun to drive through historic Camas and Washougal (catchin' a Burgerville stop to boot) to arrive in time to catch a very lovely tour....the tour guide was very enthused (which always helps) and showed us very many part of the process...(Pendelton itself just too far east....) I recall the tour lasting almost an hour, and if you do own Pendleton, I guarantee you that you'll not wear/wrap the next thing about your body without some kind of pause as to its process of how it came to be... The dying process had me captivated....all the various skeins threaded and whirrrrrrrrring away at breakneck speed....so loud that we had to wear ear protectors. The outlet, sad to report, is like a Talbots for the older person with fustier tastes (read: non-fastidious, at least not as much as could be).. I feel strongly that you've got to possess one of those eagle-eyes for spotting cute, nice patterns and styles. Pendleton... I wish that I could fill a linen closet with more of your little cousins and extended members... that I have a few pieces to adore and lovingly use (with deep appreciation) makes me feel a blessed gal.... PS for the value-conscious bargain hunter, I fear you may not find *any* great finds here... but in comparison to the downtown stores of any upscale area, in any city (not just Pdx), you're going to forking over much, much more $. read more

Why would you go anywhere else? They don't always have the newest, but they always have the best price. Great selection of blankets, towels and men's shirts. Women's fashions and a lot of neat tchotchkes all over the place. If the back rooms open, don't miss it. Best deals. Tons of parking, friendly staff and the whole building is just full of the smell of clean wool and the old fashioned atmosphere of the past. Watch for vintage ads and old wool spools tucked among modern clothing and everything from overstocks to factory seconds. Have found many bargains here over the years and the staff treat you like an old friend. Military discount on Mondays and sale prices pop up on things regularly. Don't pay inflated prices downtown, come to Washougal and check it out! read more

I had always wanted to take a tour of the woolen mills but it seemed we were always there at the wrong time. This trip was planned with that in mind. It even turned out better than planned because the mill outlet was having a big sale. The prices were fantastic and we got some great, great deals before we took the tour. The tour was interesting and it was a private tour since others had taken the morning one. Our guide was excellent and we learned so much about the wool and what they do in Washougal. I just wish we could have taken a few pictures but we've got to think there just might be a reason for that. We loved it and would recommend. We also stopped back in the store and made a couple more purchases before leaving the area. read more

The store is well worth the trip from Portland. There are usually much lower prices with most or a lot more of the selection of the main store. Good luck finding the imperfections. They seem no different than the regular items. Most of the stuff looks great. read more

Pendleton is on there last leg. They may have been great shirts in the 1960s, and found a life line with the hipsters in the 1990s, but they exploited the public by charging high prices ($$$$) while loosing the quality (Communist CHINA made now). It's time to put this company out to the pasture once and for all. Sad to see another "USA" company gouge US Citizens and go over sees. Pure Garbage The problem is the wool is shipped overseas and the products are made in foreign countries to include China. Nothing like putting on a Pendleton and seeing the label of this "US" company and seeing I it say, "MADE IN CHINA". Remember, that money you pay for those workers there stays in communist China. And more so, the price of these shirts don't reflect the cost savings of having Chinese workers make said clothing article. You maintain the extreme price tag as if US workers made the shirt as well. This one of several outlet venues in the area for Pendelton products. Our family preferred the ones on the Oregon side primarily for the sales tax breaks. We also find there are more choices for fabric at the Miulwaki. Last but not least, this is not a dig friendly store. But they do have a covered patio where our four legged family member can hang out and wait. This is an update based on returned trip during the President's Day weekend (Feb 12-15, 2016) warehouse sale event. There were a very large selection of both men and women's clothing marked with 25 to 50% off the already discounted prices. We got some very good bargains that weekend. There were also very good discounts on blanket seconds (factory flaws) and over-runs fabrics. We purchased three blankets and several yards of very nice wool fabric to reupholster dining room chairs. Special shout out to Debbie, Matt and another gal who was really helpful with fabric selection and our purchases. read more

In the past, we've always gone out of our way to make a trip to the Pendleton Washougal Mill Store which is quite a distance off I-5. We've always loved Pendleton but it's probably more of a brand loyalty thing than it is real savings, because there is so much competition. We WANT TO SUPPORT PENDLETON and the local economy. WE'RE MORE LOYAL TO PENDLETON THAN THEY ARE TO US AS CUSTOMERS!!!We've always spend hundred$! Last summer, I was browsing in my "happy place" when the store manager announced the store was closing. I told her I still had to try on some things. She said "Well, you'd better hurry up because we close in 3 minutes." In my rush to try on the garments, I didn't unbutton the iconic Pendleton 49er shirt than I've been craving for decades. I finally found one in my size, in a color I liked and at a price I could afford. Because of her rushing me, I didn't unbutton it and two of the buttons ripped off!!! I wanted it anyway. The cashier was nice and said they didn't have any more like it, so I told her I would sew the buttons back on. I told her I would have unbuttoned it before I tried it on, but the manager had told us we had to hurry. She rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. We also bought 1/4 yd of fabric to make into a scarf. The clerk was cutting it for me when the manager told me I'd better hurry and when I got to the cashier, I could tell it was more than 1/4 yd and had a large section cut out of the edge. I didn't want to buy extra fabric with a hole in it, so I asked the cashier to cut the size I wanted to buy. She cut the 1/4 yd off the bolt, just like the original too-big piece had been. The rude manager barreled up and said loudly to her cashier that she shouldn't have cut a new piece. She never told me or the cashier why she planned to sell me an item I didn't want. We bought over $400 in merchandise. It's been an unusually sad & hectic year so I didn't have time to return a brand-new unworn shirt with receipt & tags until last month. Even with discounts it was $123, which is more than I normally pay for a shirt. The refund should have been $133.60 with tax. I thought because of our large purchase and long-term loyalty, the lady would refund the full price back to the credit card. She said all she was willing to refund was a $93 gift card! Pendleton wins because I now have to buy something and I lost $40 on the deal!!! Great products & prices don't make up for poor customer service!!! Sadly, we'll probably never go to the outlet store again :( read more

The have a mix of full price and discounted/seconds and the seconds clearly identified the defect. 30 minutes on phone to place an order for 2 t shirts to be overnighted as a gift paid gift packaging fee, . was not even shipped until next day, then arrived with incorrect items 5 days after order was placed. 2 days for supv to call back. T shirts are made in Vietnam and still cost is stupid expsensive. Cool experience, definitely worth the stop on SR-14 towards the Gorge. (sidenote: I-84 sucks. If you love the Gorge, you to have take SR-14 on the Washington side - AWESOME!) You know how 'outlet malls' are really just tourist traps? This isn't that. Pendleton stuff is super nice quality and it's fun to see it all in one place. My 5-year-old and I have been here a few times. She gets excited to go on the factory tour! This is her favorite part about this place, and it's pretty dang neat to see the big ol' machines, see roving turned into cloth, and just learn history about the mill and the area. It's about 45 minutes, so wear comfortable shoes! I love the yardage they sell, and have bought far more wool fabric than I should admit. :) Since I make clothing, I don't usually buy things already made, though the garments they carry are beautiful, and are steeply marked down. This is a stop I can highly recommend anyone make, and it's one I do with my daughter when we need something to do. :) read more

Jimmy and I became really excited! This is a hidden gem. Pendleton board shirts are very popular in California. I'm so glad we know where to go to buy Pendleton shirts locally. Great sale prices. this review is for the tour of their woolen mill factory-- not so much the actual on site store. this was the whole reason we came to portland... so we could get to the pendleton mill factory and take their factory tour. they have 3 tours a day, and it takes about an hour to go through. you get a thorough tour of the entire factory, get to see all the different 'stations', and all the different machinery. it was a great educational experience and i would definitely recommend it for anyone who is interested in the process of making fabric or in wool specifically. it's neat to see how the wool starts out, how it's dyed, processed, etc. in order to be made into beautiful fabrics and blankets. the best part is probably seeing all the gorgeous new blankets-- the colors are so fabulous. the on site store has the normal stuff-- clothes, blankets, accessories, and just a little bit of fabric. if you want to get your hands on some fabric, i suggest visiting the store in portland on mcloughlin-- they have all the fabric, some notions, and remnants sold there. read more

I'm an East-coaster, and had never heard of Pendleton before, but I am now a fan! The outlet store has items from the regular catalog at a discount, and when I was there, sweaters were 40% off. I walked out with three great cardigans for $150, more than half off of the retail. Ok, a customer travels 2,000 miles....the sales/cashier works there everyday, and you will not sell her the fabric because = employees have First Dibs. Interesting. So fellow shoppers if you are lucky enough to find your great buy on the picked over floor, grab it fast you could have a Pendleton Mill employee right behind you. Overall, "Customer second, Employees first" is a bad practice for customer..but great for employees who probably don't make much. But... This place is nirvana, if you love your Pendletons. I ventured out to Washougal today, with the intent of scoring on some beautiful woolen yardage, which is what I thought this store had most of. Turns out it is mostly clothing, blankets and other accessories. All are beautifully made and are constructed of the quality Pendleton wool, however, most all items are now made in China or Mexico, as are most mass produced clothes these days. Unfortunate. Pendleton is a classic style that will last a lifetime. What yardage they did have was sold at fantastically low prices, and I was very pleased, having scored nearly 20 yards of assorted woolens: 6 yards of a gorgeous royal blue melton (a coat weight wool), 6 yards of a light weight gray suiting (think Kim Novak in Vertigo), and 7 yards of suit or coat weight black and white houndstooth; all for under $70. They also had the ever cool woolen bathrobes on sale at 25% off of the lowest price. read more

Store full of deals, remnants, and samples-WA tax. Staff super friendly. Was directed to coffee houses (Stumptown coffee a new favorite) after my purchases. Do not buy anything at Pendleton Woolen Mills. I purchased a suit by calling the 800 number in the catalog. I did not see or use the insert order form. When I called to place my order, the saleperson did not mention that all returns must be made within 3 months or you cannot get a refund only a store credit. The $350 suit I purchased did not fit so I put it back in the box with all the tags still on it and with the shipping receipt. I do a lot of traveling and did not have the time to do the return right away so it sat for what they say was just over 3 months so instead of getting my money back, I now have a store credit that I do not want to use. I want my money back. I feel that they should have informed me when I made the purchase on the phone that this was the policy. They say it is on the order form in the catalogue but anyone that is ordering over the phone will not need to look at that order form. It should be visible on the front cover or back cover or by the listing of the 800 number you call to order. I will never again purchase anything from Pendleton because I feel cheated. They were uncooperative when I discussed this with them. I will never shop there again. read more
