I'm not going to suggest whether you try to work with this particular company or not. But I will post some pictures representative of the lack of thoroughness and skill of the installation team that you can expect from pella windows and doors of Chesterfield MO. I'll also add that the installation team is only half of the pella people you will work with. The other half consist of the salesmen and office staff you will have to interface with (if you are lucky to interface with them at all). You decide whether it is worth the risk or not. Our particular issues are with their unwillingness to communicate directly with us, correct sloppy or incorrect installation issues and finally just complete the job. Represented in the attached photos are examples of incomplete work and poor installation skills. Good luck, you'll need it.

Is this how you want your windows to look?

Because of the expense, I have staggered my window and door purchases over three phases and about 5-7 years. I have to say the sales person, Glen, was great, and the first two rounds of installs were great. But this third one, windows over a garage, were not great. they left multiple hand prints on the windows that were just annoying, but when the wrapped the exterior of the window with coil, as they have done every other window, the left a 1-1.5 inch gap between the coil and the siding. it looks terrible. I thought a painter could fix it, but he said he cant in good conscious caulk a gap that large because it would look so bad. So I call the sales person, he agrees, needs to be fixed. I call Customer Service, send them pictures. They do not even have on file that they installed the windows just 8 months ago. Argued with me about it, says the last windows they installed were two years ago. So... How about my money back then so I can get new windows installed from a company that knows I exist.

Sloppy caulking job by Pella installers.

Way overpriced, you can buy the same products from any ABC Supply in town and save yourself 30-40%.

Since the type of window has long been discontinued, I couldn't find anyone in the St. Louis area willing to fix it without a total window replacement. J & J not only offered to take a look but was able to reassemble the sash with a a new piece of glass! They saved me from a bind for sure! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and I couldn't be more thankful. We have a window project planned in the next 5 years and will definitely be keeping them in mind!

Issues: The seal was not applied properly and a lot of water leaked in the basement after we had a hard rain. J&J did assess the damage and paid for damages through their insurance. The lock on the handle also did not work but J&J did finally fix it. The second door we purchased - Therma Tru Fiber Classic Mahogany was for the front door. It was sold to us from J&J Windows with the intention that not much maintenance would be needed because it's fiberglass and not wood AND it had a 5-year warranty. This product has been ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE and J&J has NOT stood behind the product they sell. We have had issues with this door and door frame less than 1 year after it was installed. We notified them as soon as we noticed the issues and at that time, paint was peeling around the door frame and the door was already starting to fade. No way should it have faded this quickly. They sent a painter out MANY times to try and fix the door frame and it still looks terrible and paint is still peeling. They SAID they re-stained the door for us but they NEVER did and after checking their records again they discovered they never did re-stain the door. The picture of the house is what the door looked like 1 month after it was installed, which was very nice. The other images are after 1-2 years after it was installed.... TERRIBLE!!! We spent thousands of dollars ($$$$) and now J&J Window Sales (or even Therma Tru) are not willing to fix the door frame or the door! Their final email/comment to us was that they were sending us a door stain kit so we could do it ourselves or have someone do it for us, and they made it sound like they were doing us a favor because the kit usually costs $140. SERIOUSLY??? Do you think this is good customer service??? I am embarrassed that our front door looks so awful. The least J&J Window could have done was send someone over to re-stain the door and at least do something to fix the frame. They just gave up! We have been extremely patient through this process over the years. They said the door must receive a lot of sun.... No kidding... It's a front door!!!! THIS IS HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMERS! We will NEVER refer ANYONE to this company!

(little annoying the "remeasure tech" was HOURS late but whatever) Got a call mid February, doors are here, we'll be there 02/24 to install. Again, great, fine. They show up, on time, said they wanted to re-measure to make sure everything was to spec. Um, ok - why wouldn't it be? They ripped off all of my door trim/casing and sat in their trucks for *90 MINUTES* without a word. Came back: "we have a problem". The brickmold is a quarter inch off - the manufacturer (ProVia) has a software problem and even though we gave them the correct measurements... blah blah, whatever. So, wait two weeks to get the corrected brickmold. Fine, stuff happens. 03/05! Called them 03/06. Guess what? STILL WRONG! No apologies, no anything. Wait two more weeks, no biggie, this is the way stuff works. March 20 it is! NOPE! March 16 and get an email that the manufacturers internet is down. No idea what that has to do with anything... how many times can you fail a customer and just tell them to wait two more weeks? Anyway, now I'm scheduled for April! Of what year I have no idea. Pathetic.

However, the process of obtaining a quote was indeed as easy as Zen Windows website makes it out to be; check out their website and watch the videos. I completed their form with the number of windows, approximate size and the requirement that the windows must meet a minimum efficiency. A reply was quick and thorough and above all easily understood and answers to questions were immediate. Dennis provided all the information needed should a permit have been required. Once accepted, Kevin came out within a few days to take specific measurements needed for ordering the windows. Within just over a month, we received a call asking if the installation could take place within 48 hours as they had an opening. Ed, Jimmy and Daryl were the installation crew who arrived promptly and you could not ask for a more conscientious and professional team. They seemed to get along and worked well with each other. Care was taken to protect floors and carpet, the installation and operation of the windows was explained, and clean up was meticulous. I had planned to shampoo my carpets after they were finished and Daryl did such a good job of cleaning up the floors I did not have to vacuum first! We had 6 windows replaced and opted for the Endure EN600 series double hung, Energy Star Certified windows. These windows were installed on a warm day in rooms that get the afternoon sun and it was immediately apparent that the sun gain was much lower than the previous windows. The wind is gusting today and there are no drafts! The total cost was a bit above some of the other estimates but after our previous experiences as well as the ease of the ordering process, the personable and professional installers- much less the quality of the windows- it has been well worth it.

Their seasoned installers were very professional, prompt, and respectful of our home. They worked hard to replace our entire two story home in one day before bad weather was supposed to hit the next day. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting the best customer service and no pressure sales with a great buying experience.
