We found Katie's using Yelp. Had the highest ratings in the area, so we decided to give it a try. So glad that we did! Upon entering, it's a simple place. Just a few tables, but they obviously have a large take-out business as several people stopped by to grab something to go. I chose the Chicken Melt - Hot Sub with chicken, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheeses, and ranch. I chose mine on a garden veggie sub bun. Unbelievably good! The chicken was perfect. The cheese was gooey. And, the bread is incredible. My mom had the pizza sub on a spicy garlic sub bun. She was impressed by the freshness of the ingredients. We decided not to have ice cream on our way out. But, it was definitely tempting. If you are looking for a quick, delicious sandwich, stop by Katie's!

We picked up their famous Door County bread and Bagel bread which is topped with everything bagel seasoning. The Door County bread has cherries, cranberries, freshly ground cinnamon and Madagascar vanilla. We also picked up a Door County cherry scone. We tried the score right away. This was one of the biggest scones that we have ever had. Loved the cherry's and the texture of the sugar in the raw which provided a nice crunch. There were some soft spots under some of the cherries on top where it appeared to be a bit underbaked. Otherwise this was a tasty score. We made some toast with the Door County cherry bread and sandwiches with our Bagel bread. We enjoyed them both. Nothing like fresh baked bread.

We picked up some cheddar, a tub of that dip, and a few beers for the road. We also grabbed food from the in-store café: a grilled French onion sandwich, tomato basil soup, and cheese curds. No kidding, don't let the gas station vibes throw you, this place has great eats. We walked in through the gas station part of the building and were surprised to see the rustic decor of a medium sized dining area and an adjacent bar. It was a pretty full dining room and we sat ourselves. It didn't look promising as we saw one waitress and one bartender. However, after a brief wait, the waitress came to our table and assured us she would return as quickly as possible to get our drink and food orders. She returned as promised. Our drinks arrived a short time later. They were well made and attention was paid to get us another round as we finished the first. Our table had ribs, prime rib and a French dip sandwich. The portion size was great and the food arrived hot. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was tasty. The prime rib had great flavor, was prepared as ordered and had very little fat. The French dip was also tasty. Truth be told, a salad bar would make this a true five star rating. The salads served with the meal were nice but very run-of-the-mill. Will we go back in the future? You betcha!
