Food truck. Shaved ice…read more Cinnamon. Raspberry. I like pretty much cinnamon or raspberry anything. So I was pretty stoked about seeing shaved ice with cinnamon and nothing but cinnamon. It was awesome. It was served in a perfectly shaped dome of ice. By the time I slurped my way to the bottom of the cup it was nothing but slightly diluted cinnamony syrup. The hot cinnamon really isn't real cinnamon; it tastes like those small red-hot candies common around valentines day or that you get in boxes at the movie theatre. But that's okay. Cold ice and hot cinnamon make a perfect conflation of flavors. And the sugar rush from all that syrupy sugary flavoring helped me make it through the boring afternoon meeting. Kona has lots more flavors, and I can also recommend the raspberry daiquiri. It's a viable alternative to the real ones. And, when the weather gets warmer, this will be a perfect respite from the heat. The Kona truck also has flavored water available from the spigots in a small cutout near the back of the truck. I can understand why this is a popular truck for kids parties.

We needed a little refreshing treat after a long day of unpacking and this place definitely hit the spot! There is SO many flavors to choose from. Italian ice and 'SnoBalls'. We are familiar with with shaved ice where we are from but tonight we wanted the very very thin ones which is snowballs. Italian ice to me is a thicker heavier shaved ice. I was taking pics and the owner Margie came out to see if we had any questions. I assume we looked confused as there was 2 different kinds of choices of shaved ice. She explained the difference and we did indeed make the right choice :) she was SO nice and friendly. When I'm telling you this, I'm not lieing. What a gem!!! She even let us try the Italian ice which was amazing as well. I even joked in a few years my son should get a job here ;) it's a laid back atmosphere with tables, bean bag game/cornhole. One Ice Machine? In This Heat? Bold Strategy…read more I drove an hour in the middle of a heat wave like I was on a mission from the shaved ice gods. I pulled up to Waves Shave Ice in Holly Springs, ready to cool down and live my best life. Instead, I got a front-row seat to a sweaty comedy. Stood in line for over 60 minutes under the blazing sun -- no shade, no misting fans, not even a warning flare. Then, just as I get close to the window... "Sorry, our ice machine just broke." Ma'am. Sir. ONE ice machine? In the peak of summer? With this kind of traffic? Y'all need at least two, maybe even three. This place is too popular to be operating like a home kitchen with one blender on life support. They need to treat this like a concert venue, not a lemonade stand. Invest in backup machines -- or at least an emotional support popsicle for the folks in line. I left hotter than I came, spiritually and physically.
