And just way too many flavors for an indecisive person like me!! Haha!! Prices are decent and whenever they are open there is always a line. They have their own mixed flavored SnoBalls that they name to make it easier to order. It took me awhile to decide on what flavors but I settled on Georgia peach, pina colada and red apple. Man, I love Pelican's SnoBalls. I passed this place everyday for about 2 years to and from work. It never occurred to me to try until I saw a huge line posted up one evening after work. I tried it at the beginning of March, now I eat it about 3 times a week. So many flavors to choose from and if you want to spice it up with topping you have the option. Tasty! My complex invited them to visit, and I had a kiddie size snow cone for $3. It sounds like the price is a bit more than it use to be, but it is to be expected with COVID. They wore gloves, and everything was done pretty neatly. I had half cherry and half punch flavored. Super cute place! You won't miss it because of the colorful exterior. First time going here but probably won't be the last- we may give this another shot. My partner LOVES snow cones so he was totally all for it and this place was "okay" for him. He wasn't too impressed with the service. I like the stuffed option (they put vanilla ice cream scoop inside all the ice)! I got the red velvet cake and cheesecake SnoBalls and it was honestly awesome to have during these hot days we've been having. I do recommend the stuffed option if you like ice cream too! Service wasn't up to par. I didn't see anyone wearing gloves (or I don't even know if they were suppose to tbh). But I would think that since they're scooping ice...that they should. Got a gone fishing kiddie size and a regular stuffed wild strawberry and coconut. Kiddie sized for me was just right since they're so sweet. But I can see a regular would be nice and refreshing during this crazy summer heat. We got some pelican bucks so we'll definitely be back! I've been going to Pelicans for at least six years. Pelicans is a cute fun place to go on a date night or for a fun family outing. There are colorful painted picnic tables to sit down and enjoy your treat. They even have corn hole for those who want to play. Their flavor list long with a vast range of flavors. My personal favorite is strawberry shortcake. It's super sweet so if you like sweet then give strawberry shortcake a try. I saw that a previous review showed a menu with the price of a kiddie to be a $1.50. However, the price has increased and a kiddie size is now $2. The kiddie size is honestly more than enough, all their other sizes are so big that they turn into slush before you can finish them. So my recommendation is to start with the small size. Durham has two locations. What I like about this location is that there a drive through. The drive through is on both sides which helps control the traffic level. A dislike about this location is that the parking lot is small and the line can easily spill into the street. Other than those two small observations, I do not have anymore complaints. I went to college right down the street from this location. I probably went here at least once a week during the warm spring and summer months. They have over 100 flavors, so you should definitely find something you like! I've tried probably 15% of that list and my favorite combination is probably Blue Raspberry and Fruity Pebbles. This isn't your typical shaved ice where the syrup completely seeps to the bottom while you're stuck eating ice chips at the top of the cup. All of the ice is completely drenched in flavor. The only downside to this location is that you can be waiting a while. You would think shaved ice with syrup on it wouldn't take so long to make. Also, they have two drive thrus, one on each side of the building. However, because it takes a while for them to make the snoballs, both sides usually get long and create a line. I've waited in line for 20 minutes before. You can also park and just walk to the front, but there's sometimes a long line of people there too. read more

I find it hard to imagine this is a chain. Granted, we came around closing time in the evening (when the temperature was dropping), but service was exceptionally slow. There were a number of people both waiting at the walk up window and the drive through, so we had time to read through the extensive and hilarious menu. Honestly, so many of the descriptions were super fun to read. Decided on a kiddie sized stuffed snowball, which consists of flavored shaved ice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. The shaved ice was very fluffy, and there was definitely enough syrup to cover everything. Unfortunately, I went for the over sweet flavors (nectar, cherry), and it was a sucrose bomb. Portion size wise, even the kiddie size was too much. Perhaps Pelican's is better at a different time of day, but it wasn't what I was looking for as a dessert. read more

Love Pelicans! This location was designed as a drive-thru. There are two lanes you can go through. While I have done the drive-thru before (just for fun), I am more of a sit and eat my snoball kind of girl. They have seating. Some of it is covered and some is out in the open. I went on a weekday afternoon. The drive-thru seemed to stay pretty busy while I was there, but the walk up wasn't. I sat down in the covered area and enjoyed my snoball and had a very nice and relaxing time. The quality of the snoballs is excellent. No different than at their other location. They have 100+ flavors and all kinds of combinations you can create. Everything on the menu tastes exactly like it says it will. Plus, this is a cheap treat! Service was efficient and friendly just like always. The other thing to know is that the owners are super amazing, wonderful people. I've been enough times over the years which allowed me to get to know them a bit. They are extremely family friendly, and if you ever have any concerns or have a less than positive experience they will absolutely make it right. Not only will they make it right for you but they will work to ensure that it's not an issue for future customers. Honestly, I wish all businesses were run the way they run their's. More than the sizes and prices, the 100 flavors are why anyone should stop by this place on a hot day. Even though it was major yums, it was also just shaved ice. Not much of a sit-down place, so I would recommend just going through the drive-thru if there's a lot of people there. The flavors are really good and the "snow" ice is light and fluffy. Not huge hard chunks of ice. I had a tamarind and cheesecake snoBall "stuffed"with ice cream in the center. The flavors were really good...my cheesecake actually tasted like a cheesecake! My husband had pink lemonade and lemon lime "stuffed" with ice cream and the most sour spray they had. It was almost too sour for the both of us and we are sour candy lovers, but it was only on the outside so it was manageable. Great place to go on a hot summer day. The flavor options are endless and they are super dog friendly. I got a strawberry lemonade snoball and a doggie snoball (chicken broth flavored) for my dog. I have also tried cherry cola and it was fantastic. I would probably eat this stuff plain- the ice is the PERFECT consistency. What I appreciate about Pelican's is that the ice is fluffy and soft, not hard and chunky like some "snowballs" you may have had. It's super cheap, and the kiddie size was plenty for me. Some of the syrups are a little bit too sweet, but there are so many flavors that everyone should be able to find something they like. You can go through the drive-through or walk up to the window to order. There's no indoor area, but there are several picnic tables nearby. The parking lot is a little on the narrow side, so be careful trying to get out. read more

I am a huge fan of ice cream, but sometimes it's just too sweet and too rich for me. Pelican's SnoBalls serves... shaved ice? Sno-cones in a Styrofoam cup? It's a great place to come if you want something cold and sweet, but not ice cream. They have 100 flavors, so if you're with a group of people or picky kids, there has to be something on the menu that appeals to them. There's a kiddie size, a medium size, and a large size - I usually get the kiddie size because these cups are BIG and I don't want a puddle of melted sno-cone at the bottom of my cup at the end. They let you combine flavors and it's super cheap because you're just paying for sugary syrup and some ice. The set-up is like a walk-up window with a few picnic tables around. Love this place! Used to go to the one on Roxboro until this new one opened less than 5 mins from me. I love trying new flavors and have only been disappointed by 1 (cake batter but what should I have expected really).
