Tough place to locate because there is very little signage. We were able to find it after driving around a bit. We found a nice parking spot in the rear of the hotel that it sits beside. Upon entering the area where the music stage is set up, we noticed a decent crowd with everyone sitting and enjoying the music. The bar is inside where everyone goes to get a drink. The service was good...a couple of bartenders ready to help, if needed. The crowd was mainly older adults....ages 40-65 would be my guess. The music was good....all the hits from the Eagles to Nirvana to James Taylor. As a first timer, it was kind of confusing where to order food. However, I did not notice food being served. I did notice a small restaurant set up in a small seperate building but there was no one eating in there. I guess the bartenders take the order and then deliver the food. Would I go back? I've been going here since 2009 and have seen a lot of changes over the years but the food has stayed the same. My go to is the blackened grouper sandwich with rice and beans and go to the salad bar and load up. Their pasta salad at the salad bar is spectacular. The only thing I would say is there always a wait and the prices have gone up significantly but that's fair and expected over time. Our service was great our waiter was friendly and attentive. Seating options are varied, something for everyone. You can sit under the tiki roof, you will find the bar and band in there. It's dark, but open air and if you like a lively loud environment when you eat, this is the place to be. There is indoor seating near the salad bar, if you want a more calmer, quiet setting, this is where you want to be. There is an outdoor setting at picnic tables, if you want an outdoor setting with water views and live music, this is where you want to be, but you will need to wait to be seated. This is an extremely casual place, no need to dress up. Some not so good: Parking here is a disaster! Uber here if you can, as the parking situation is limited and tight and you find yourself circling the lot waiting for people to leave. This place doesn't take reservations, wait times can be significantly high, which doesn't help the parking situation. If you want to eat outside, be prepared to wait. We came on a Wednesday night, 5:30 (early) in April (not the busiest time of year) and we waited 45 minutes for an outdoor table. We didn't really care as we had a drink and talked, but you might.

I got home and they were not in my box. We had fried green tomatoes. Very yummy. Not like my homemade ones but good. The corn breed was tasty. We ordered one order but I think he rang up two and brought out two but we not wanted one. They did screw up dinner. There were 2 of the same fish ordered cooked the same way. When it came out one looked not good and one looked good. One was not cooked properly and the other was ok. I will share pictures. We were here to celebrate a b and that was a nice experience. They also did remove the bad fish off the bill. So that was a plus. Over all this has good potential but needs a-lot of Work. And it was. So loud. It was hard to talk. Our server was super nice and tried to take care and of us. I would try this place again but they definitely need to work out some kinks. I heard it was a new place. So I guess be patient and it will all get ironed out.

Our waiter was great, too. He even kept an eye on the time and waited until the clock hit 3 so we could take advantage of happy hour. The onion rings were a standout. Seriously, get them. They also surprised our niece with a little birthday treat, which was such an unexpected touch. (See video.) Before we left, we wandered through the gift shop... it's actually worth the visit. Island Gypsy is 100% worth checking out, just be prepared for a wait because this place stays busy.

We were told 30min, wound up being more like 90. There were people literally walking in and sitting down. As we continued to wait at the bar. I asked for an update, apologies, they had a reservation, etc. It was frustrating to say the least. It was a Thursday night, later in the evening. It wasn't overly busy by any standards. The bartenders were on point. Had it not been for them, our experience would have been terrible. The had our drinks made within 30 seconds of being requested. The second time, we went for lunch again, and brought the fish we had caught on an excursion that morning (snapper, trout, whiting, I think). They can prepare it in multiple ways and we chose to do half fried and half grilled. It was delicious! Note that whenever we have visited, it has been for lunch so I can't speak to the evening atmosphere, but during the day it's very laid back, and often mostly locals. My husband declares it's the best grouper sandwich he's had, and he says that on every trip, even though we go to other restaurants.

Walking into the bar/restaurant, a handwritten sign told us to seat ourselves. So, walking towards their outside area, we were hit by a wall of cigarette smoke. No biggie. It's outdoors. Not ideal but whatever. It IS mostly a bar. So, we picked a table. On our way to sit down, a server walking past mumbled a hello and kept walking. So, we said hi and sat at a table. The server then stood several feet away and just stared at us. Literally, did not move. Not even to take care of other tables, which we noticed after a time, were just sitting there not receiving service as well. So, we waited. ...and waited. 10 minutes later, and the server never moved. Ultimately, we decided to leave. As my husband and I stood up and began walking out, the server reached behind her and grabbed two menus, watching us the entire time. She then said, "Sorry folks. Have a great day." Wow. Off season, places like this depend on locals to keep their businesses afloat. With the kind of attitude and service we received, we won't be back.
