    Beautiful neon marque circa 1921
    Peter G.

I'm a big fan of movie theaters built in the 1920s and 1930s. Aka "Movie Palaces" Movie palaces where ornate grand often with 2000 to 4000 seats. Others were smaller around 1000 seats. The Picture House was built in 1921. While it's smaller than those grand movie palaces. It still has all the charm, of those larger movie palaces. The theater was slated to be closed and torn down in 2002 to put up a bank. But a group of concerned people got together and now, it's been completely renovated and taken over by a non-for profit group. The main auditorium has been beautifully redone, with wood columns in the celling and many original elements of the theater brought back. 300 seats is the capacity of the main auditorium and all new very comfortable seats or put in about five years ago. There is a small screening room, that used to be a dentist office, where they have very comfortable leather reclining chairs. A very cozy place to see a movie. A mix of independent and smaller movies are featured along with the regular "Hollywood" films such as:The Age Of Adaline, Woman In Gold, mad Max Max. They are also special screenings of films in advance of their release with actors or the director of the film to answer questions. As well as a special film series with the seasoned film critic Marshall Fine. One can become a member, which entitles you to enjoy half-price admission for any movie in the main auditorium, as well as a special price in the intimate screening room. The concessions are very reasonably priced. The popcorn IS definitely delicious fresh popped before each show and offering real butter. This theater is a real GEM The only single screen independent theater, 94 years in operation in Westchester County. So make sure that you go down to this fine venue, to enjoy, either a regular Hollywood film or a quirky independent film.

Newly renovated and looking great. Got invited here several times by friends in the film community. The Picture House is the perfect place for a first look premiere or a classic on the big screen. It's a homage to the great picture houses of the 1920s. It's also a not for profit community driven theater that does an excellent job of attracting respectable names and holding premiere events. Actors, directors, and producers appear on certain screenings to do things like a Q and A with the audience. Wine and cheese are served before others, it's a intimate theater going experience run by people who take art and a sense of community very seriously.

    Reclining seats!

Adorably tiny theater. Plays academy award winning and independent films. $8 for reclining leather seating. Saw "A Place at the Table", just my boyfriend and 3 other people in the entire 14-seater room with a projector. Great find for a Sunday evening.

The. 5 stars refer only to the screening room. Very clean, small room with circa 16 recliner seats. The sound is impeccable.

This is an old, dark venue and can be difficult to walk around. Only bathroom for two theaters.

Great local place. I'm glad it didn't close down. I really enjoyed the charity events there and the management is courteous.

I signed up right away to the drive-in site for future events notification. We are familiar in the area so getting to the drive-in is not a hassle at all. There are friendly staff members who guided the movie goers for effective parking and pleasurable viewing. The movie theater location is in the New York Hall of Science parking lot and the screen is fronting a good view of Terrace on the Park. The adaptable comfort zone is clean, convenient and follows Covid protocol. Luckily, we received a complimentary snack box courtesy of Apple TV+. The film is a free event too. Let's support the cause of this drive -in theater. It gives pleasure two ways.

To have one right in our borough, in our very crowded city, is such a treat. And it was all free. The second time we went we even got free treats left on our windshield. The staff was amazing. They led us through the maze of metal barricades and cones to the viewing area, made sure we were parked appropriately on the lawn, good enough to view the screen perfectly straight on, and helped us to turn all of our lights off. When we weren't able to tune them all off while still listening to the movie audio on our radio, they came around and lent us a portable radio. That way we could turn the car completely off and listen to the movie audio from their borrowed radio. There was also a food stand, but we had dinner beforehand and brought our own snacks, so we didn't order from them. All in all, a pretty awesome experience for the whole family. Thanks to all the staff and organizations that made it possible!

My friend ordered 2 waters and a soda for each of us as well as truffle parm popcorn for me and fried pickles and she tried the honey thyme wings. We received one water and asked for another which we didn't receive until 10 minutes before the movie ended. The sodas were fine and the food came out fine. I asked for a refill of my popcorn which I had to keep pushing the button since it was taking awhile. I was brought plain which I barely ate and after the movie approached the wait staff who fixed it and added seasoning and packed it up in a box for me. It was quiet as usual despite it being a kids movie but there were kids running down the aisle of the theater but that was the inly disruption. I love that the Alamo has strict rules.

I've wanted to go to Alamo ever since they came to NY with their first Williamsburg location…read more Didn't even realize there was one in Westchester, however saw the signage 1 day when driving around Yonkers. Finally got an excuse with the Super Mario brothers movie to come by. 'Cool' is the word when it comes for what they're going for with Alamo. It's located in the back of a shopping center with ample parking, however the decor is very nice inside. They had a headless horseman figure, a well designed lobby, clean bathrooms, and a few games for the kids. Also had a Super Mario poster kids could take pics in front of. Bar looked great too. They like their retro vibes, and the old school Mario cartoons/shows before the movie was a nice touch; saw some Godzilla stuff I might come back for too. Food was easy to order from your seat. Why only 3 stars? Service was very uneven. My food and my son's food came out immediately, however my wife's food (and a side of sauce for me) took 20min. I flagged this multiple times in the app without acknowledgement, so eventually grabbed someone only to get a boilerplate answer of 'we're working on everyone's food'. Luckily her food came independently right after, but she was starving so not a great experience. My food was cold when it came, however the boneless chicken wings were very good. Still sucked for her. My beer was also flat when it arrived, however I do t expect the world there when it comes to a theater (although if they poured it with more head it might've been fine). Lastly, my chair's back didn't recline much, which prevented me from the nap I planned to take during this movie. Could've been worse, however also could've been better. I am open to going Alamo 1 more shot, however might be just for me and friends versus a family. They really need to work on the operational back end here, as the place is cool as hell and I'd love to be a regular if they had things together.

Years later, this is still not good…read more Tried this again twice after a very long time of not coming here - yep, still not too good. In comparison to other movie theaters, this one pales greatly. While they updated the theaters with modern seating(w/ tables), it's not as comfortable and clean as competitors. In all fairness, I've only been to the standard theaters, so perhaps the larger theaters are better - but it should be equal across the board. I get why they did it this way, but they probably should've just rebuilt the theater from scratch. Cross County as a whole has undergone the effort trying to look better than it once did (whether better or not is up to individual interpretation) and here we have this dated movie theater with so many better and modern theaters at other malls. Each time I came here, at least one of the beverage machines was out of order while the other one remained a mess, with sticky floors as an added bonus. I get that the general public can be inconsiderate slobs, but this is why these things should be maintained by employees. Getting a drink shouldn't be a hassle nor should there be an impromptu sticky 'minefield' to have to maneuver through while getting the drink. The theater seats weren't as comfortable as they looked like they would be and didn't feel entirely clean. While the small table was a decent innovation, it would've probably been better had all of them been adjusted, tightened, and oiled. One improvement - the employees were a little friendlier than I remember them to be. Most of them anyway. A suggestion to the theater itself is to choose when and where tickets are checked. If I check in at the front with my phone, it should be good enough - not a second time with my hands full before going into the theater. If you're concerned about those not paying, then have a better system in the front of the place. It only happened once out of the two times I was there, but it was annoying to have to get my phone back out while my hands were completely full and the employee wasn't exactly friendly about the inconvenience either. The parking lot is sizable and you should easily be able to find a spot as long as its not during the holidays. I wanted to give this place a second chance from long ago and hoped things had changed - but they haven't. It's better elsewhere. I have no intentions of giving this place a third chance unless they completely tear it down (like they should've) and start over. There's better movie theaters out there.
