Here's the really concise breakdown of my recent repair experience with Mike and his business. I bring in my car for an oil change, my car is ailing, but I ask Mike to help me locate an exhaust leak towards the engine. (Me)This will fix it. -Drivers Side Manifold I ask for a quote and receive one after the part was looked up. Leave my car. Not too long after I reach out to Mike and share with him a few of the symptoms the car was showing me that I hoped the repair would remedy. Mike carefully explains how in fact this would not solve my issue. As we talked further and I tell him a few other thing I've noticed with the car, I was then thoughtfully walked through some frank realities of what I would most likely be encountering on my return on investment, this from an experienced mechanic/savvy businessman's perspective. I'm fully convinced, I'll take back the car as is. I ask how much do I owe, not only did he not accept any amount, nor a tip, but he offered me clean insight as to why this is only way he would conduct this type of transaction. The several hundred dollars saved is really the side point. My big take away is that there is a place for this manner of business to be conducted in every city or small town, but you'll be fortunate that you would experience it in firsthand at this auto service in Lowell!

That guy you trust to tell it like it is and not overcharge you. We got older and cars got more complicated, and half of us probably run our leased cars back to the dealer and pay what they tell us. Well it's still nice to "have a guy". Mike's that guy. Car's making a noise? Take it to Mike. You can trust him to tell it like it is and not overcharge you. He doesn't have a web site, doesn't take credit cards. Answers his own phone. But he'll fix your car and not rip you off. My wife's car was due for both tires and brakes. He did the brakes for less than half the price the dealership quoted me, but also told me that he doesn't do tires (and gave recommendations where to get them done). He's not in the business of ringing up a big bill on you, he's in the business of fixing your car.

They didn't even pull it into the garage and charged me $74 to tell me I needed a new Starter Motor. Which was already known. So here's the full story-- Called early morning Wednesday (7:09am), The mechanic that answered looked at the schedule and said he could take a look and to bring it in. It was towed and dropped off at 7:50am. They couldn't get to it (I'm a single mom so had to rent a car to pick up my son from school) They called me the following day Thursday at 12:40pm, telling me they didn't pull it into the garage or run a full diagnostic as I requested, but instead they tried starting it up and that the Starter Motor needs to be replaced. (We figured that much) -- Noticing I will need an oil change soon they added that in, for a total of $880.00 for the repair. I asked for the price without the oil change and she said $728. NEARLY $160 for an oil change is absurd. When I asked about the diagnostic and why I was being charged for a diagnostic when they didnt even give me any information we didnt already know, and they didnt run a full diagnostic, I was faced with an attitude and told "we could have charged you $140 for an hour of diagnostics, but we only charged you for a half-hour". I'm sorry does pushing the start button on a vehicle take 30 minutes? As someone that lives a block away and this is the most convenient place, I STILL wouldn't go back. Even the guys at O'Reilys said they were total rip offs.
